Very nice and peaceful temple in a village, about 20 kms from Coral residency hotel, Ramnad. The road is good. Went there in the evening by auto. At the Natarajar sannidhi, the priest was expounding about the deity. The Natarajar sannidhi opens only once a year. There are two Gopurams, one for Lord Shiva and one for His consort, side by side. Would be good if the visitors keep silence and do not treat it as a tourist spot.

Ancient Shiva temple located about 70 km from Rameshwaram and 10 km from Ramanathapuram. Special puja done on Thiruvadurai annually to the deity.
Daily afternoon puja at 12:30 pm.
Supposedly the oldest shiva temple in the world. Must visit this place. Ample car parking available.
Popularly known as Uthirakosamangai temple.
Well sign posted directions available.

This is great temple to visit in the Ramanathapuram area. If you are on a trip to Rameswaram - it is worth the extra effort to see this jewel of a temple thought to be one of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu.

We really had no idea about this amazing temple until we entered the temple. We were on pilgrimage to Rameshwaran and as per our tour schedule this temple was included in our itinerary. We reached the temple at about 0300 PM and we were told that the temple would be open by 0400 PM. Actually we were waiting at the entrance wondering about the temples. When came to know about its history, we really felt that we are the blessed to be here at this temple.

Repair work is being done at the temple, but most of the structures are in a dilapidated condition. Government should take steps to maintain the temple in a good condition.

One of the very old temples about 15 km from Ramanathapuram.
1. the lingam here is self-made 2. birthplace of Siva and Parvathi.3. the name uthirakosamangai derived from Siva taught the Vedic secrets uthiram means upadesam kSivaosam -secret mangai-Parvathi
4.indian plum i.e ilanthai tree is 3000years old is temple tree here.

5. since the flower thalamboo supported Brahma who lied that he has seen Siva's head, is banned in all the temples of Siva, but the only here it is used for worship
6.two nandis are present
7.sahasra lingam in which a thousand lingams carved
it is the honour of 1000 rishis Manikavasakar is presented as lingam
8.the real attraction in this temple is 6 feet Natarajar carved in emerald no where else one can see this attraction simply superb the idol is merged with sandal paste for throughout the year except on arudra day this paste is removed and dharsan to public allowed on the full day and again sandal paste applied and kept closed
one can visualize the dark green colour so beautifully carved and no snake , no tiger skin etc it is an awesome site not to be missed in one's life so please try to visit on ARUDRA DAY WHICH FALLS ON JAN BEGINNING AND GET BLESSINGS FROM THE LORD.
thogh the crowd is more on that day it is worth a visit!!!

Nice temple to visit in ramanathapuram. Very Old Temple. Lots of breeze during my visit even though it was a sunny day. Fortunate to have Maragatha Linga Darshan. (Emerald Statue). Bits and Pieces of renovation work going. I think they are lagging proper funds for development. Lots of Moffusil and Town buses from ramanathapuram new bus stand. Approx 30 Mins journey on a normal day. Temple was beautiful and calm. No Proper Stay and Eatables available near temple. Recommend to make your stay in ramnad itself. Parking facilities available.
Maragatha Lingam Abishekam done at 12.30 every day. 25/- rupees ticket per head to have the darsan. Rest of the time the inner door is mostly closed.

When we were passing through Ramnathapuram to Rameshwaram, my who ws traveling with me got to know about it and we planned to visit this temple after Rameshwaram Darshan. This temple is nearly 30 min bus ride from Ramnathapuram Centrl Bus Station (You can find buses to and fro). If you are not used to of crowded buses then you should hire a taxi. This temple is believed to be the world's oldest (first) shiva temple a claimed by temple authorities. Tis temple is also famous for its Nataraja idol made of Emerald stone, which is covered with sandal paste for 11 months except the month of January in which it i cleaned and kept as it is for Darshana.
It is also believed that Ravana & Mandodari got married here in this temple. Few people say that the shiva linga Natraja iol was established by Ravana himself. Whatever this temple is a must visit place if you are going to rameshwaram. It has many resemblances with rameshwaram temple from the architecture point of view.

It's a very beautiful temple located around 10 kilometers from Aadhi Jeganath temple. There a daily Pooja around 12:30 PM for the Emerald Lingam and Sphatika Lingam. They will explain the history of this temple at that time. I recommend to attend that. They charge RS. 25/- person for this dhurshan ticket.

Really must visit temple for vaishnavites having lot of connection with Ramayana. The Adi Jagannatha Temple is a South IndianHindu temple in Thiruppullani, a village in the outskirts of Ramanathapuram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, Great place to go. In 108 Divyadesams this temple is 44th one, Here we need a lot of basic improvements for visitors. This place is Awesome, in front of the Temple there is a big pond (Theppam) it's good to see such a big one there. Many small shops are available there near the Temple, in that hand made wooden toys are too good. If u want to go there kindly go before Sunset because the beauty of this temple is not clearly visible in night time due to lack of lighting inside the Templ
