Bhimashankar is an ancient shrine situated in the Sahyadri hills in the state of Maharashtra. Bhimashankar temple is one of the well known Jyotirlinga, amongst the twelve jyotirlingas situated all over India. Bhimashankar is located in the village of Bhorgiri 50 km north west of Khed, near Pune. It is located 125 km away from Pune in the ghat region of the Sahyadri hills.

Locals turned this holy temple into a business model. They are playing with people's emotions and their beliefs.
We visited the temple on 30th June through car. At first we had to descend 3 kilometers before the temple, we thought there would be traffic, but that was not the case. Locals at Bhimshankar do not allow to enter outside vehicles and they creates an environment as if there is a lot of traffic. They do this systematically. Only Government buses & local taxis run on the road near the temple. Like they ask for 200 rs. for 2Kms. Hardly seen any private vehicle and the 2km stretch is fully cleared.
Next, there was not much queue in the temple during the day, yet the common queue was taking very long to move, like we could able to walk only 100 meters in 2 hours.
After that I went down all the way and saw that a team of 20 to 30 peoples is standing at the beginning of the temple and demanding money for early darshan. The ranges start from 2000 and they vary according to the situation. This corrupt practice is the main reason for blocking the common queue and force devotees to pay money. I did not see any police person around the temple. This leads me to conclude maybe this all being done or running with some sort of support.
Moreover, there are no special arrangements for the elderly persons and children’s.
Even to have the Mukhdarshan, you are not allowed to enter the temple and from outside temple premise you get a glimpse through screen. The experience were horrible & frustrating for us. My mother is a devotee of Shivji and she kept fast till darshan and didn’t had anything till 4PM. I was feeling bed by looking at them & temple management. How those goons making mockery of devotees. They are just looting devotees on the name of God.
I recommend not to visit this place and use your time and hard earned money in good deed. Also I request if some action can be taken by considering the problems faced by common devotees. I came across many similar review and putting this one in hope that it will bring out ground reality.

पांच दिवसीय महाराष्ट्र की सुखद यात्रा की।जिसमें पांच ज्योतिर्लिंग के दर्शन किए। भीमाशंकर,नागेश्वर, घृष्णेश्वर, वैद्यनाथ, त्रयंबकेश्वर पांच ज्योतिर्लिंग स्थित है।बहुत ही रोचक व अथ्यात्मिक यात्रा रही।साथ ही सप्तश्रृंगी के भी दर्शन किए। नियमों का पालन करते हुए सफर करते चलें वह सुरक्षित रहें।सभी का अच्छा सहयोग रहा। आत्मीय आभार।

Three hrs. from Pune, there are breathtaking scenic views on the way. One of the 12 jyotirlings, Bhimashankar has around 350 broad steps to climb down to the temple. All along the stairs you'll find lots of eatables and places to rest. People having knee problem can also climb up and down slowly but steadily, taking breaks.
Avoid weekends and Mondays and also the month of Shravan, as there shall be a long queue on these occasions. Also it should be visited in the morning hours to avoid rush.

4. On any day it won’t take more than 30minutes. On religious days it can take a bit more.

One of the most corrupt place you will see !
though there is lots of space, they offer single line queue to make it very crowded and then they ask for 2000 rs for darshan from backdoor unofficially !
while people are standing 3 to 5 hours in queue , locals and temple staff from backdoor takes 2000 rs from people and let them allow for darshan !
Not even senior citizens and kids are spared where they wait for 5 hours for darshan !
if its not jyotirling , i doubt there is single person who will visit this-place !
on the name of god, just loot and money snatching that is happening here !
Kindly avoid and use that 2000 rs for some good deed for animal or any needy that will make god more happy !
these people intentionally creating chaos and mess by only allowing 10% of space for use and remaining is just not in use so queue become long and they earn money

This is a HELL HOLE.
DO NOT go there in a car.
The bus stand, the cabbies, those filthy shops are an ugly spectacle. Menace. Dangerous. Those incessant honks by buses, cars and motorcycles are simply unbearable. Then there are touts promising you 'express' darshan for 2000 Rupees per head. The Maharashtra Tourism didn't even provide basic parking facilities.
I WILL NEVER go there again. Nor did I do any darshan. The kind of people who visit this place are by and large hooligans. They choke roads, block passage. On purpose.
DO NOT go there in a car.

We left from Lonavala at 2:30 pm by car. Reached there around 5:30 pm. Had to park our car around 3 kms away from the temple as cops were not allowing us to go ahead due to the crowd. Then we hired bike to take us down to the temple. The line was very big. There were touts ready to take you for direct darshan by paying 300 Rs per person.
If they are able to give you direct darshan that means there is a loophole somewhere. I did a survey and found the loophole and took direct darshan. Took a bike back to parking lot and left back for Lonavla by 6:30 PM

The होली place is mismanaged and needs attention to be taken up so that it can be developed as a place for hindu pilgrims. Discipline needs to be incorporated and government should interact with local bodies for development of the place.

Does Mumbai to Bhimashankar route has heavy ghats section? (Not Lonavala / Khandala, I am asking if there are more difficult or steep ghats on the way?)

There are some steep section but those are easily manageable. I started from Navi Mumbai at 5 am, so when I reached bhimashankar traffic was minimal.
