We came here as part of an excursion from our cruise ship (Viking Mars). It was a long drive to get here. Our bus along with us was put on ferry. It was a short ferry trip. The views from the top were really pretty. We were supposed to have lunch at the top but the restaurant is closed. They served us lunch at the bottom of the hill.

Mount Stranda & City Highlights

Disappointed

We did this as a shore excursion while on a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line in July 2022. This shore excursion was a total waste of time and money. It was very expensive. We spent 1-1/2 hours getting to Mount Stranda on a bus then a ferry. The cable car is actually the transportation for the Strandafjellet ski resort - which obviously was closed in July. Yes the view was beautiful from the top - but two hours at the top with no place to sit was ridiculous. Our guide was from France (student summer job) and really did not know much about Norway. The bus driver was giving him information to tell us about Norway and to answer questions from the passengers on the bus.
The description says the glacier is visible from the top of Mount Strada. Wrong - the glacier melted back from view and can no longer been seen.

The restaurant at the top of Mount Strada was closed for the season. This NCL cruise shore excursion included lunch. Since the Strandafjellet Resort was closed we were taken to a local restaurant for the included lunch. While the food was delicious and plentiful there was no organization. Everyone got on the food line at the same time. It was chaos. Better would have been to call one table at a time to the buffet.

On the way back to the port there was not much in the way of highlights. Boring expensive day.

This is a fantastic tour for all families, especially chrildren. Today was a perfect solution with clear views, but it is possible that one can have some snow. See enclosed picture from June.

We visited Strandafjellet as part of a trip on a P&O Norweigan Cruise (visiting Stavanger, Olden, Alesund and Bergen). Our tour required a coach trip and ferry before arriving at Strandafjellet. The journey was picturesque and the views did not disappoint on arrival. We took the gondola lift to the top where the views were simply breathtaking. Coffee and waffles were an added bonus! A very memorable trip indeed.

We took a tour to Mount Stranda while on our cruise - the cable cars are in good condition and offer great views as you make your way to the top of the mountain. Each car comfortably seats 6 people and getting in/out of them is pretty easy.

It is probably about a 10 minute ride up in the car (it does get a little warm on a sunny day due to the windows all around you but you can open a couple of small windows for some fresh air).

At the top are the most amazing views, with mountain tops as far as the eye can see, lush valleys and fjords - the sheer scale of everything is awe inspiring and something that photos simply cannot do justice to. If you like the great outdoors, looking down on stunning scenery like this is something that is hard to better. We were lucky to get a lovely sunny day and despite there being snow on the ground in places it was still pleasantly warm at the top - certainly short sleeve comfortable. I'd packed a jacket/fleece, expecting it to be cold at the top - iut wasn't!

We didn't go into the cafe at the top (too busy enjoying the views) but it looked nice too.

We took gondolas/cable car to the top of the mountain (Strandafjellet). From there it offers a spectacular view of the fjords. We were with kids 4-9 years old. We could also have climbed it instead of taking the cable cars had it not been warm that day. Was a good activity for kids too.

Above the little town of Stranda on the western bank of the 110 km. long Storfjord, the Strandafjellet Mountain is located about 56 km. east of the Art Nouveau town of Aalesund. The cable cars, or rather the gondolas, start at about 450 m. above sea level. The ride up to about 1050 m. takes about 15 minutes, and at this altitude there is snow even in the middle of summer.
There is a 5 minutes’ walk down to the restaurant area where you have the best view. Most people perhaps have just a waffle with cream and jam, and a cup of coffee. You don’t want to spend too long inside, because you are there to enjoy the view, which on a clear day is just amazing. Outside the pavilion you have a good view of the town of Stranda below, and the Storfjord, one of the longest fjords in Norway. All around you are mountains of about 1500 to 1700 m. with snowcapped peaks, which look great all year round. This is UNESCO heritage area.
It is a joy to spend time at the top of the mountain, although it on some days may be a little crowded up there.

Utrolig flott! Kombiner alpene og sjø, magisk! Bra løyper og variasjon. Ok mat på toppen, litt små porsjoner.

Wanted to ski while enjoying the amazing fjord view and web searching got me to Stranda.

Nothing to do with ski resorts in France, Austria, Switzerland, US or Canada: Stranda is a small kind of village ski center. Small slopes at the exception of gondola, not many options, can also get overcrowded when schools are on for ski lessons and training.

BUT the views are simply amazing, especially if the weather is good, nothing can compare to the ski-sun-sea combination.

Services are pretty expensive though, from the daily or multi-day pass, to the cost of car parking-yeap, it s €5, the high cost of alcohol when you just want to get a beer and since it s Norway you pay it a fortune.

Not to omit the rate commuting options, meaning that you either need an expensive taxi to drive you there or you ll need to rent a car in Alesund.

Food wise, a few options, fair to expensive but with a decent quality. And of course, waffles are a must there!

Careful though when the weather gets warmer: the ski center is in low heights and close to the sea, meaning that the snow becomes muddy and dangerous easily.

A must go for 3-4 days. Only
