This reserve is only open for about one month a year, make a point of going. Spectacular views over the Hawkesbury River and Brooklyn. Loads of wildflowers. The rangers are a bit over protective, one mm off the track brings down a strong rebuke. For accidental infractions they were OTT. A great day spoiled.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, take the opportunity to visit one of Sydney’s best kept secrets.
Muogamarra Nature Reserve is only open 6 weekends a year, from 9am – 4:30pm on those weekends and costs $15 per person to enter…and is absolutely worth visiting!
On Saturday 10th August 2019 my husband and I braved the cyclonic winds to do the unguided Peats Bight walk. This spectacular hike took us through four different landscapes and outstanding scenery. The wildflowers were in full bloom and offered excellent photo opportunities! The reserve is only open to the public during spring, as this is when the wildflowers are at their best.
Important notes:
- Credit card facilities are available at the entry
- Wear hiking shoes or sturdy runners
- Take plenty of water
- Stop at The Pie in the Sky for a tasty treat after your hike!

We have lived in the area for 46 years and never visited this place, it was well worth it, there are several different walks so you can choose one that suits you.

Absolutely stunning nature reserve. Well maintained. We went during the wildflower walk which costed $15 each adult. The flowers are amazing but so is the wall and the views. I highly recommend it

We visited the park on the opening day of the six weekend season. All the volunteers we spoke to were fabulous, they love this park so much, and it rubs off on the visitor!
There were abundant wildflowers, but we could also see lots of buds, so there will be a changing display as the weeks pass. We did the two easiest walks, self guided, and spent ages taking photos of the flowers. Most of each walk was along a wide, almost level track, with a stunning viewpoint part way along. Entry is now $15 an adult, tea and coffee was available for a gold coin donation, and there are guided walks as well.
Even though there were lots of visitors, we had no trouble finding a picnic table at lunch time, or take your picnic on a walk, there are lots of smooth flat rocks to sit on.

This reserve is only open to the public in August and September. A family ticket is $25 and $10 per adult.
Although a bit steep for the entry fee, the park run mostly by volunteers during this period, is a treasure trove of wild flowers and vistas that you don't get to see in many parts this close to the city.
The drive into the reserve is 3km of gravel road so bear this in mind if you drive in with a lower clearance car.
It was busy but still there was just enough parking. The reserve has a number of tracks but only a couple were suitable for very small children. The loop track is suitable for young kids and we even saw people taking in strollers! Be rewarded with a lovely view off the track but keep an eye in the kids as there are no safety railings.
We took another walk to a view of lovely Brooklyn and thouroughly enjoyed the wildflowers throughout the walks.
Although closing up for the year, they do special walks now and then so have a look at the National parks website for details.
There are longer walks for those up for a challenge so definitely something for everyone.

We went to Mugamarra as a group of 5 friends. We thoroughly enjoyed the wildflowers. There were a variety of people with families with small children and seniors. The scenery was spectacular and gives plenty of enjoyment for amateur photographers. It costs $25 for a family, $10 adult and $5 for a child. Take it easy when driving in on the dirt track, it is a two way lane... We went on 4 smaller tracks, the Lloyd Trig walk, Deerubbin Lookover, JD Tipper Loop and Point Loop. I am keen to visit again and go on Peats Crater 10km walk. It is a fantastic experience with friends for a day trip.

Book on the internet for the annual opening window of opportunity - only six weeks of the year.
This is a unique experience and worth the time to enjoy a rare treat.
Guided tour with plenty of specialised knowledge of this treasure of Australiana.
A sanctuary.

the reserve is only open with volunteers guiding and educating for six weeks of the year. There are several walks from very easy to a bit challenging. The flowers are always spectacular-waratahs, boronias etc. Lots of info available at the big shed.

Recently we had the pleasure of doing a couple of walks in the Muogamarra Nature Reserve. The park is only open for six weeks at the end of August and beginning of September and the wildflowers were in full bloom, it was the highlight of our walk, as well as the views over The Hawkesbury River. One of the walks we did was the Lloyd Trig walk, it's an easy walk but a bit of a climb up to the top but the view is worth it. At the top there was a NPWS staff member who was very knowledegable and very friendly as all the staff were. Also there are tables and chairs near the front info shed and you can have a picnic after your walk if you want, also you can buy coffee & tea There are guided walks but we just did it on our own.
As it's only open for 6 weeks my advice is to get there early on the day as we were told they've had to close the reserve before at 11.00am because it was full.
Take water. It opens at 9.000 am
