Best chocolate I have ever tasted. Thoughtful sourcing of cocoa as well! Although the pandemic has significantly impacted the chocolatiers, we still learned a lot about the chocolate-making process from them at their new site under construction. It will be an even richer experience when they can show more of their process. We’re already almost out of our melt-in-your-mouth treats! When any additions are required they use Tasmanian products. The chocolate-covered honeycomb and chocolate ginger bites were my favorite. The owners are now also cultivating a vineyard (Every Man and His Dog). They are conveniently located on the busy tourist path between Hobart and Port Arthur—definitely make time for a stop.

You could not wish such a wonderful couple who are just devoted to creating the best chocolate. I was so impressed I went back a second time. The choices of chocolate are amazing, and the coffee is pretty damn good. Its a winner.

This visit was a last-minute thought. We already pre-booked the Port Arthur Ghost Tour for Sunday at 9pm, leaving the day free, so we decided to travel from Port Arthur back to Hobart for the day. Federation Artisan Chocolate is only a 5-minute walk from Hobart’s Waterfront. There is on-street meter parking available and it is free entry to the store. We didn’t make any bookings but willing to pay for a tour, however their Head Chocolatier wasn’t there – as we arrived at 10am… the doors just opened for business. But Maurice Curtis, the owner of the business, was more than happy to show and tell us all he knows about the history of chocolate making and the process of how chocolate is made – from bean to chocolate, you could see a mapped process displayed, where they make chocolate, through their window into that room as well as the machinery they use. He told us with pride that they make chocolate the way it used to be made 200 years ago. We learned a new chocolate term ‘liquor aging’, which is not what you think, ‘liquor’ is another term in the ‘chocolate world’ meaning liquid. We found Maurice to be sweet and kind to give us a spontaneous personal tour and found him to be very passionate and knowledgeable in the chocolate industry. He assured us that he uses only genuine ingredients with no added essences or oils. He also shared with us that working in a chocolate factory had always been his dream, which he finally made his dream come true by 2014! We then headed to the counter to buy our chocolate treats – Maurice’s wife Helen served us. She put no pressure on us and allowed us to select our chocolates in our own time. Helen was very accommodating in explaining the flavours of the chocolates individually – but still didn’t make our choosing any easier. The chocolate display looked amazing and colourful, very hard to select just a few chocolates – if we could, we would have bought the lot. We ended up buying an assortment of moulded chocolates @ $3 each and couldn’t resist to take them back to our lodge, but ate them on-the-spot. The verdict? Truly delectable. You could actually taste the difference between the cheap mass production and the ‘real’ process. Their chocolates are simply rich in flavour and melts in your mouth. Indulgent experience, especially for the ones with a ‘sweet tooth’. Open seven days a week, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, Saturday 9am – 3pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm.

I visited on a damp, rainy Hobart morning and the hot chocolate was superb. I was able to buy Xmas gifts for vegan friends from their large range of vegan chocolates, all packed in boxes (you can choose the size). I will definitely be back although the limited options available with your hot chocolate were not gluten-free. the delicious chocolates were enough. Try the Lemon Meringue chocolate. Yum.

We are a family business and we are very passionate about chocolate and the making process.
We don't like people missing out on the chocolate experience and is why we have Vegan friendly and Gluten free chocolates.
One thing I would like to say in that our Hot chocolates are gluten free, the chocolate for them is taken straight from the chocolate vats and we have Dark, Milk and White chocolate, hot chocolate available, all gluten free.
We are so glad you enjoyed the chocolate and we look forward to seeing you again

We popped in for a hot chocolate and were so impressed. I LOOOVVE hot chocolate so I know what I’m talking about and this was one of the best Ever. I also bought a selection of handmade chocolates for a present for someone I can never think if what to get. What a treat. I’ll be back. Often. P.s. you can watch the making process which was really interesting.

First time visit to Federation Artisan Chocolate in Hobart.
Chocolate was awesome great choice of bars and individual chocolate , we met Maurice the owner and chocolate maker, very friendly and informative.
This is real chocolate no palm or vegetable oil added wow very rare.
Definitely the highlight of our Hobart visit look forward to coming back again.
Be sure to visit you’ll be glad you did.

I went in to get change for the meter and was delighted to find a feast for the eyes. The array of chocolates is visually beautiful. There are also pastries. They have two chocolates plus coffee for $8.80. Watch this space as they are planning to ad outdoor seating.

We are very glad you were able to visit us back in August.
Our outdoor seating is now in place, and we are just getting the rest of our outside area ready to be a pleasant place to sit and enjoy our wonderful chocolate creations.

Our favourite of all the chocolate shops / factories in Hobart (we toured them all)! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff who are happy to answer your questions. You can watch the chocolate be made and crafted. And the highlight for me was that they have fab vegan chocolate options!
