We stopped here on our 300 km drive from North Lakes to Hervey Bay.
After visiting the twin lighthouses at Caloundra, we drove 15 km north to the free parking lot at Point Cartwright, lucky to snag a spot. We took a selfie at the long view of Wurtulla Beach before joining several dog walkers for 300m to the huge blue water tank covered with sea life murals, and just behind, the tall lighthouse built in 1979. At this commanding spot, we looked over the bay toward Sunshine Coast, spotting several surfers and small sailboats while another couple was watching a frolicing whale just offshore noting we are near the end of the humpback season. What a beautiful spot of Australian nature.

Visited Tuesday 25th March. It's always great going for a walk around Point Cartwright, the views are amazing and there's always something new to see there.

Visited this lovely spot recently with my dog. The dog was swimming off the rocks south of the river mouth when Sunshine Coast Council Rangers came along and gave me a ticket for being having my pet off leash. There had been no signage visible from the direction I had approached the beach. Even the ranger could see the next nearest visible sign wasn't visible where I was, but still felt it necessary to revenue raise. It seems the off-leash areas vary around Point Cartright are poorly signed, vary geographically and with varying times I had to pay the fine or take time off work and go to court to fight it (losing a week's pay).
To avoid future problems, I WON'T be back. Thanks council.

So central to the coast. A perfect walk from La Balsa Park to the light house and the water tower. I love the rock pools and the beach 🤘

We spent fathers day walking on the tracks, I wish we could boost greatw alking tracks like this. It is a pity that there are so many motorised scooters

As a Sunshine Coast lad I’ve come to Point Cartwright countless times but I appreciate it more & more as I get older. Partly for the memories & partly for how beautiful it is (of course). My granddad used to live across the water at Mooloolaba (Parkyn Parade) & captained the pilot station for many years (his team would head out to sea past Point Cartwright to meet the ships and guide them safely through the Sunshine Coast waters with their local knowledge of shipping routes). I’ve come with my dad out past the point fishing for tailor when I was a kid. And come for walks to the lighthouse at night after watching horror movies and to the adjacent park to hang with friends and do teenager stuff, you name it. The view from the point out to sea is amazing - you can see Mooloolaba beach from top to tail and out to Coolum with Old Woman island in front (I always thought she looked more like a whale than a woman, still do). Up at the lighthouse there is a bench with a view over Kawana Beach & down to Caloundra (I spent almost half an hour recently just taking it all in). You can see so much of the Sunshine Coast from up here! After a walk along the breakwater and up to the lighthouse I got myself a flat white & brekky wrap at ‘One on La Balsa’. It’s was the perfect morning & wonderful to be back at Point Cartwright.

Nice place to go for a beautiful view, plus the wonderful artwork on the water tower.
Good path that’s disabled or pram friendly.

The views from Point Cartwright lighthouse are simply amazing. Thank heavens the bushland in the area has been preserved too.

I am a diver, and avid snorkeler and regular to Pt Cartwright especially for the rock pools but I wouldn’t risk snorkelling the point due to the strength of the currents & waves. It is a surfing beach on the eastern side, and the western side, a calm water beach for all ages and animals, and it’s a nature enthusiasts dream. Diving is excellent and the scuttled missile destroyer, HMAS Brisbane is a real plus with vis up to 20m.
