The crystal cave tour was phenomenal. Our guide, Marcos Cucul, had exemplary knowledge of the mayas, the cave system, plant life, the birds and overall tour. This tour was certainly a challenge. The climbing, down, up and side the rocks was exhilarating and heart pounding. It’s a tour not to be underestimated! Definitely get tennis shoes with good traction and be prepared to get dirty. Marcos was very kind, patient and helpful with one of our participants who twisted an ankle and had to take her time to get back to camp. This tour requires focus and listening to your guide. It’s definitely worth doing

This was the most incredible hike/cave experience. We did the hike through Maya walks and our guides were Pedro, Marcos and Jose- all incredibly knowledgeable and excellent guides.

I almost cancelled the night before, after reading trip advisor reviews, and psyching myself out thinking I wasn’t fit enough to do this hike or adventure. I am SO glad that I ended up doing it after some convincing from my boyfriend.

It definitely does require some agility and strength, but you 100% can do this if you’re just in decent shape. The 45 minute hike up was muddy and a bit slippery, but not the hardest hike ever.

Once you enter the cave, it is absolutely incredible. You will get dirty so wear clothes you don’t care about. The guides know the ins and outs of the cave and will tell you exactly where to put your feet/hands when climbing.

Would recommend this hike to anyone who wants a unique and challenging adventure!

We did the crystal cave tour with Miguel at Belize Caving expeditions and he was the most incredible guide we could have wished for!

Extremely patient, very informative, funny and most of all, he gave us confidence and we completely trusted his guidance!

We’ve done the ATM cave and this one afterwards and this is a completely different type of challenge. It’s much harder.

Physically it’s very challenging! And it’s also a mental challenge for many reasons.
Including being In complete Darkness except for your head lamp for many hours, steep drops, slippy floor, tight spaces, creepy crawlers and it’s very strenuous!

First you have a 45-50 minute hike to the cave entrance. Then you start the descent into the cave.

Everything inside is as slippy as an ice rink from the clay, you spend a lot of time on your bum! There’s a lot of climbing on very uneven surfaces with just your headlamp for light. Lots of lowering yourself down off ledges using your upper body strength and pulling or pushing yourself up. Climbing from Boulder to Boulder and there are some drops as well (Miguel kept us informed of dangers along the way)

A fair few very small spaces which mean you’re crawling on your hands and knees, contorting your body into weird positions to get through cracks and lifting your own body weight a lot!

We both hike a lot but this used a ton of muscles we hadn’t used for a long time / ever! We were both very stiff and sore the next day!

However, despite the physical challenge (and mental if you’re claustrophobic or just tired!) it’s beautiful down there!

Getting to wonderland which is one of the biggest and most beautiful caves was so worth the extra journey! Sparkling rocks and formations we didn’t know existed!

We then went on to the upper chamber in just our socks and again - absolutely stunning!

We were down there in the caves for 5 hours in total almost, but you can do the normal loop which is more like 2 hours in and out. If you need the toilet you have to use a bottle and it’s a good idea to take a few snacks if you want to try the lounge route like we did.

This is only my second cave in my life and i did the ATM and this one a day apart. And I really enjoyed it but it was definitely a challenge and took a lot of body strength, we were covered in clay mud when we came out, pouring with sweat and in desperate need of a shower!

We headed to the blue hole pool for a wash off in our clothes and then sat and had lunch!

This is definitely not for everyone, it’s very very physical.

ATM felt like a 2-3 out of ten difficulty wise and this was more like an 8-9!

It was totally worth it and we both felt so proud we did it but it was all thanks to Miguel at Belize caving expeditions for looking after us every steps of the way, he’s an incredible guide! Thank you Miguel for an unforgettable day!

We will be creating a YouTube video of the experience in the next four weeks or so on our channel which is the same name as this account (inwanderment) if anyone wants to see it before trying the tour. Highly recommend Belize Caving Expeditions!

At 65 years old I wasn’t sure about this one. Made it without a problem.
I will say that ATM is seriously a cake walk compared to Crystal caves.

Do not underestimate the challenge that this excursion represent, wear appropriate clothing and shoes, carry water and energy bars this is way different that ATM. From the parking area back and forth were gone six hours.

Walter was our guide and we booked with Mayawalk,

Walter was patient and very knowledgeable and I am grateful that his technical skills allowed my 10 and 13 years old children to complete the all Crystal Cave adventure without incident leaving them with a lifelong of extra ordinaries memories

My daughter, her boyfriend and I explored the Crystal cave with Belize Inland Tours. Edgar was our extremely competent guide and driver, we had to be picked up and brought back to Hopkins. The hike to the cave is about 45 minutes mostly uphill, but is totally worth it. We were the only people there on the day we went. We saw amazing stalactites and stalagmites larger and more intricate than I could have imagined. Broken pottery was abundant from Mayan sacrifices. There was one piece of unbroken pottery which Edgar said was probably used for collecting water dripping from a stalactite. The Mayans believed this to be like holy water. There were also areas where the Mayans had fires and likely religious ceremonies. We also saw a human skull from a sacrifice.
An amazing experience. I am very happy I chose this adventure instead of the ATM cave which I hear can be crowded with cruise line excursion groups.
We also went swimming in Blue Hole a beautiful sinkhole with fresh water. We were quite sweaty after caving so it was perfect. And Edgar provided us with a delicious lunch of jerk chicken and rice and beans.

Exploring Crystal Cave was the experience of a lifetime. For someone with a geology background, it was fulfilling to see the magnificent stalactites, stalagmites, pillars and crystals formed in a karst topography over millions of years. Make no mistake about it, this spelunking adventure is very, very strenuous. You will be required to crawl through narrow muddy passages and climb up and down steep and slippery rock formations. Although I can hike 8-10 miles per day with a backpack, this experience tested the limits of my endurance and will. However, I made it through and will never forget the experience. Much thanks to our excellent guide Walter.

We had an excellent tour of Crystal Cave with Israel from Wildland Belize. He was an exceptional tour guide-- we learned so much and he pointed out all the Mayan artifacts and unique cave formations throughout our tour!
It's a challenging hike through the cave but if you have good fitness it's worth it!
