We picked up a guide onsite, and he took us into the cave and towed us in tubes up the underground river. We then sat with our lights off to experience the sounds of the cave, then floated slowly down the river. Very knowledgeable guide in Mayan culture, and was very interesting. We have been recommending to our friends.

We had so much fun with Orlan, our guide for cave tubing in St. Herman’s cave. Orlan was knowledgeable about the caves history. He was a great guide with great energy. He made us feel safe. We really enjoyed the trip. I recommend Orlan. Excellent guide!

A beautiful large cave, with a short walk to the entrance. Bring your flash light or head torch.
If you have more time, the the full guided tour is also worth doing.

The best excursion by far. A unique experience. Best part was floating in the dark and silence. The guide gave us Mayan history of the caves.

Saint Herman's Blue Hole National Park was a terrific experience. Our cave tubing portion of the visit was so much fun, and relatively easy for inexperienced recreationalists like us. Our tour guide Vida was absolutely terrific; he took great care of us in a dark, rocky, slippery setting. It was exhilarating!
The Blue Hole portion of the visit was also lovely. We were able to swim in the pool, almost entirely alone. A restorative treat. This is a recommended destination for anyone traveling the Hummingbird Highway.

We are staying in San Ignacio, but took a half-day to Belmopan and the inland blue hole. We went into Saint Herman’s cave, which took about 2 1/2 hours, and it was well worth the visit and the money. It was a physical trek through caves, tight spaces and dark but filled with history, including Mayan fire pits, pieces of pots, combined with the great history shared by our guide, Walter. It was a terrific experience and we will go back and do the crystal cave next week.
We then went into the blue hole to cool off, which was lovely.
We ended with lunch at The Palapas, which was good.
It was a wonderful day trip from San Ignacio. A driver cost $180bz r/t and guiddd entry into the cave was $50 us pp.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Cave tour. The National Park is well maintained and the trail from the parking lots to the cave and to the Blue Hole were both short and beautiful. Although you can view a portion of the cave without a guide, we chose Upside Down Tours so we could have the full experience. Our guide pointed out plants and animal life on the trail and told us all about the history of the Mayan People and how they used the cave. He made sure we saw all the amazing crystals and stalagmites and tites along the way. The opening to the cave is spectacular both exiting and entering and the water was refreshing. We were able to view the headwaters and also float past the entrance to a larger chamber where the fruit bats hang. The cave formations are numerous and beautiful. The entire tour was 2 hours. Highly recommend our guide - Upside Down Tours. Easy to work with! Great Outfit!!

A lot of fun! Easy 15-minute jungle walk to the cave entrance. Bug spray is a MUST! BRING YOUR BUG SPRAY WITH YOU. Your guide will put it in his drybag so that you can spray again after you emerge for the buggy walk back! We did several excursions while in Belize and this was by far the buggiest one! Cave was cool and dark and turning out headlamps on the float back to the entrance was awesome!

Rose was a knowledgable, friendly guide who took us into the cave and led us and our tubes through the water (relatively warm) and told us stories about the land, how the cave was formed and used. A peaceful way to explore a cave!

Great time and great guides! We got to tube in total darkness for several minutes. The water was cool but felt great in the heat. The cave is only a 10 minute ride from Sleeping Giant Lodge.

Hello! We're going to rent a car and tour St. Herman's ourselves. A few questions:
- Is Humminbird Highway and the roads into St. Herman's suitable for a small rental?
- Can you go self-guided all the way through to the Blue Hole?
- About how long should we budget to spend here, assuming just a quick swim?
Thanks so much for any guidance!

The Hummingbird Highway between Belmopan and St Herman's is paved and very well maintained. We had no trouble driving on it or on any other highway in our rental car. You can only go a short way into the cave without a guide. I believe there is also a non-cave trail that leads from St Herman's to Blue Hole, but we opted to drive from one to the other due to the heat. Both St Herman's and Blue Hole are right on the highway, about a couple miles apart from one another. It took us a 2 hours to do a self-guided tour of the cave and a leisurely swim at Blue Hole. If you opt to hike from one to the other and back, it would be more like a half day tour I think. Be aware that there is an underground river running through the cave system, and weather will impact your experience if you decide to hire a guide to tube through. If it's been dry, you'll have to paddle a lot. If it's rained too much, the cave may be flooded and closed.

Hi there. If we rent car and drive to the cave ourselves, are there tour guides and tubes available there? Or should we book before and set something up? Thank you for the info.

we did not use a guide and just went ourselves, but I think there is another park in the area that provides guides to area caves. Not sure if St Herman's is included.

Dark. :)
The self-guided trail goes in a couple hundred meters. There is a little water in that section (not on trail) and a few formations, but it is definitely and “intro” cave. There is a guided tour that goes in a different section, but we didn’t do—so can’t comment on it.

Hi! We considere St. Hermans to be a wet/dry cave , because the is still a small stream passing through the lower side of the cave and dry cave , because we can actually walk inside in a dry path to experience this marvelous creation of numerous cave feature this cave offers us.

How cold is it inside the cave in December? And how cold is the water?
Thanks!
Rédigé le 21 décembre 2017
The cave itself is fairly warm compared to other caves you may have experienced. The air temp in the cave is typically in the 70’s in December. The water is typically in the high 70’s as well. You can wear shorts/swimsuit and a quick dry a t-shirt or long sleeves if you prefer but no need for wetsuit or anything similar. You will also be wearing a life vest and helmet which adds to the warmth.

What was the name of the company or toru guide you used? Were you from a cruise and found this on your own? From beginning to end, how long would you say it took and lastly, is this someplace you can get in and out of and make it back to a cruise ship, general location i guess is waht i am asking about. I am coing to Belize in Septmeber with a small group of 4 and we are searching for soemthing to do and this sounds amazing.

We went with a tour from Coconut Row Guest House in Hopkins. You can book a tour through them even if you're not staying there, but depending on where you're coming from it may be easier just to go yourself. Depends on if you have access to a car or not.
If I remember correctly ,the tour itself took about 2 1/2 hrs. so yes, you would be able to get in and out or back to a cruise ship. The place itself is easy enough to find. It is right outside of Belmopan.

Rédigé le 11 mai 2016

and we paid another $3 to rent a flashlight
we didn't get a tour so don't know how much that would be

Cave tubing sounds like an exciting way to begin our trip to Belize and we'd prefer not to cave tube in a huge group. We arrive in Belize city 11:30 AM on Wed Jan 27.
• Is there enough time to cave tube the very afternoon we land? We must travel to lodging in San Padro (Wed, Jan 27).
•What is the price for 2 adults- and do we need a reservation? We are not with a cruise.
•Do we carry the tubes in the cave- or just float in and out of the cave.
Please advise -Thank you!

The Blue Hole National Park where I did my cave tubing closes at 4.15pm and you have to be in the cave before it closes by about 2.30 to 3.00pm at the latest, so it would probably be a real push to get there in time, especially if there are any flight delays. If you need to get to San Pedro on the same day, you probably wouldn't have time to do the cave tubing as well.
I just turned up at St Herman's Cave in the Blue Hole National Park and asked if any cave tubing tours were going and I was lucky, there was one leaving in about 10 minutes. I was there in the morning and joined some other passengers who had booked in advance, there were only 2 of them, so there was space for me on the tour and it wasn't a large group.
I had made enquiries about booking an afternoon tour, but these did not seem to go every day which is why I just turned up on the off-chance in the morning.
All of the tour companies seem to charge the same, $50US per person for cave tubing tours in St Herman's Cave. This includes your Blue Hole National Park entrance fee.
You have to carry the tubes from the car park along the hiking trail for about 20 minutes and then carry them along the path in the cave until you get to the section of the underground river where you can float along. You have to carry your tube back out and to the car park along the hiking trail at the end of the tour.

Hi Karen K. Where did you schedule this tour? From a cruise line or on your own?
