Good place for spotting wildlife. Ethiopian wf could be found here, many species of birds and lots of antelopes. The could forest is in my opinion the best place for birding. Just go there as early as posible.

Nice park, but staff at headquarters have taken to scamming tourists to make up for lack of visitors lately. Guide fees have been doubled (to 1000 birr per day) but the officer at headquarters tried to charge us 2000 per day! Only after bargaining hard could we get him to reduce the fee to 1300. Our guide confirmed he only received 3000 for 3 days, and the other 900 went into the man's pocket. Also, for the three day hike only 1.5 days are in the park, yet you will be charged for 3x24 hours... insisting on an offical receipt (including guide fee) might discourage such gouging in future.
Also, our guide refused to help us buy provisions in town ("you can eat bread"), wouldn't set a fire in the evening, and didn't carry enough water, meaning we had to provide him with drinks!

The park is not in Addis Abeba (like here marked in TripAdvisor) but it is in Dinsho (gmaps 4Q3R+WH Dinsho, Etiopia). It is a huge park, we did a 7nights/8days tour and it was a good idea, as we could cross it from north to south! We saw a lot of animals (you can see them, guaranteed!), and crossed wild areas where there was nothing and nobody up to the horizon! The campsites have some protection from the wind and rain (a stone, some wood) and a water source. The sleep is always in tent. In the night and morning it was always below 0°C, in the day the sun is warming up. We brought cooker and gasoline to cook, and food for all the days (don't bring too few, there is nothing to buy on the way!), and water filter. The sky in the night is incredible, and it was also possible to hear just the wind on the grass, blowing... It was amazing!
The days were really good planned, not too long, never to late at the campsite, anyway for the planning just talk with the guide, depending how fit you are, they are really flexible and pleasant (we planned it just the day before).
Our guide was Awol (he is from Dinsho and speaks a good English) with whom we had a really good time and learned a lot about the park animals, plants, and about the Ethiopian history and culture!
To plan a tour I suggest to contact Awol directly: Email - awolhule.ah_gmail.com whts'up No. +251 922 77 13 02 phone No. +251 912 45 10 57

The Bale Mountains national park contains several areas like the Sanetti Plateau (4000 meters high), the Dinsho forest and the Gaysay grasslands. I visited them all and in all these places I have seen cattle, even at 4000 meters altitude. Crazy!!!! Yes, I have seen the Ethiopian Wolf, but when I turned around I saw a herd of cows with their shepard. Even at 4000 meters high local people start grazing the are with cattle. I am afraid this will be the end of the Ethiopian Wolf within 5 or 10 years. It's a real shame there is no law enforcement. Yes, the Sanetti Plateau is beautiful and deserves 5 stars, but because of the cattle and the lack of law enforcement I just give 3 stars.....

Espectacular, de una belleza incleible. Incluso pudimos observar un zorro etíope cazando.
A destacar el paisaje y la cantidad de pájaros, solamente es necesario estarse quietos y en silencio y mirar alrededor.

Wonderful park. Not much wildlife to talk about but the park is huge and has many ecosystems. We went to the south side - Dinshu. We stayed in a govt lodge with bunk beds in rooms Common bathroom All are well maintianed and clean. There is a fireplace (camp fire) inside the lodging. Great to visit with family or friends.

Worth the long drive (around 6 hrs plus) from Addis to visit. Great scenery and wildlife to view. A pleasant change from the city life. Avoid during the rainy season

Se t interessa whts'up Nr. +2519 22 77 13 02 phone Nr.
