We visited this store after visiting the craft stalls, Choki Handicrafts and various shops near Clocktower square. I thought the Emporium has the highest quality textiles. The prices may not be the lowest, but they offered 10% off purchases and the quality and selection is superior.

This Handicraft Emporium is quite near to the Textile Museum and the occasional Craft Bazaar of Thimphu. This big shop comprising two floors - ground and first - is owned and managed by the government, and has fixed prices.
You don't need to pay anything to enter it, as such.
The quality is, thus, unquestionable, but so is the price.
For those who want to take away some memories in the form of souvenirs for themselves and for others, I'd recommend to get an idea of the handicrafts of Bhutan from here, though the decision whether to buy from here or not, is after all, subjective.
PS: this shop accepts credit/debit cards.

The quality of Bhutanese handcraft amazed me, here at the National Handicraft Emporium you have everything in one place, it has it's price point but everything was so colorful and appealing. Scarfs, Go, Kira, boots, belts, purses, they sell everything.

We visited this place after dinner and there were only a few stalls opened. If one want to buy souvenirs and local crafts, I think this would be a good place to look for it. I went to the weekend craft market across the river and regretted not buying the round woven basket there. The price for similar item was double in Paro.

After hunting down the flea market for some good souvenirs at good price, we were almost disheartened. Every item seemed so overpriced for non-Bhutanese. With a notion in mind, that government souvenir shops are expensive, we entered this emporium to try our luck. Surprisingly, prices of every item was lower than the flea market. We bought wooden wine cups for all our friends and wooden fruit stands for all relatives. For few closer ones, we purchased the traditional silver brooches with a turquoise stone set in them with the trust that we are buying from a reliable place. We had to visit the store twice as we were so very impressed !!! The sales lady also accommodated our request to keep the emporium open for extra 15 min. Make sure you know the timings if you're visiting as they are not open after 6 pm.

Can anyone tell me some cheaper stores in Thimpu for Bhutanese apparels and handicrafts ? Also is there any weekend sale market in Thimpu or Paro for these?
