On arrival I was informed it had been closed for two years which was rather disappointing. They did not say anything about reopening in the future though.

Our last attempt to visit, it was closed for maintenance (March 2018). A pattern emerges. My Cairene friends say it's great. From the outside (looking in) it's a gorgeous building in gorgeous grounds. My guess is that there are not enough visitors to keep it open all year round. Come on Sisi! There's more to Cairo than pyramids. If you want tourists, invest! And open the goddamn museum of islamic ceramics as well while you're at it. Thank you in advance.

2 guys employed at a desk near the entrance informed us we could take photos of the outside - as if that helped - had really wanted to go there again especially as it had been upgraded

Unfortunately, the museum is still closed for renovation.
Make sure you call before going (+202 2333 72933). They couldn't tell me when it would reopen.

I visited it at mid july 2017 , according to previous visit alone I found it very nice for people who are interested in Egyptian culture and local life style ( in last century at least ) so it will suitable for families too , but for bad luck it was closed that time for maintenance , so you can make the taxi wait for you till confirm it is reopened , if not you can let the taxi take you to near by Zoo , otherwise , enjoy the nice place , recommended to visit upon previous visit

If you like strange and quirky, this is your museum! It's actually 8 museums in one, though not all were open when we visited. There are some interesting exhibits, presented in old-fashioned style, somewhat dusty and dated.

It's 5 LE to enter the grounds and most the museums. It's an additional 10 LE for the Museum of Heritage Collections (Fine Arts Museum) or the Ancient Agricultural Museum. Plus 10 LE to use a camera in the museums. The grounds provide plenty of green space, plus pharaonic gardens.

We visited the Museum of Scientific Collections, Museum of Ancient Agriculture, Museum of Heritage Collections, Syrian Hall Museum, and Chinese-Egyptian Friendship Museum.
Each museum we entered had a guide who spoke english. The Museum of Plant Resources, Cotton Museum, and Museum of Greek, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic Eras were not open.

Modern EGYPT refers to the kingdom of Egypt starting with ruling of Mohamed Ali and extended till the last kings of Egypt. The Agricultural Museum is a reflection to the greatness of this period where the value of discovery was realized and for which such a place was built. In this location there are 6 different museums. Not all of them are open to public, but the ones that are open contains real treasures. It is not a highly advertised place and is not on the touristic places, but I think it worth to be seen for its predacious collection of animal and plant species for anyone who is interested in this matter. I am adding here some of the pictures of this visit

I must say that the poor reviews here are just a shame. You will need at least 5 hours to see all the display! And that is without reading the descriptions! They have 5 buildings, at the moment 3 are open and 2 are closed for maintenance I guess, which I hope will end soon as the collections are absolutely adorable! First of all, the museum should be in a museum itself! Some of the items and probably all of them, not even some date back to the opening and you get to see the really old style presentation of things that they have -- from huge collections of stuffed animals (domestic and wild) to scale models of factories and produce lines of products. They have a wonderful collection of butterflies, curious organs and organisms in formaldehyde, hundreds of antlers, tools for you name it what, collection of old pictures from all over Egypt, number of breath taking, hand drawn pictures of birds etc. This place is eccentric, shocking, brilliant, with a taste of old time exploration techniques and approaches. Anyone with a creative or scientific mind will love it for sure. It looked like a lot of the items were collected during the explorations of the British in Egypt as a number of displays have old, beautiful hand-written notes. I mean, I cannot stop talking about it! The staff members are very friendly and helpful. Ok ok, so final note, it definitely beats the Natural History Museum in London any day! I will surely go back to visit once I am in Cairo!
