The tickets for my tour group were purchased in advance by the tour guide. Otherwise, I am unsure how they can be bought in advance independently.

Hi, We were there in Late Jan, 2019 and King Tut was open, but you must purchase an extra fee ticket. Very reasonable!! There were no lines to enter any of the tombs, as tourism is still quite down for Egypt. Do not think advance purchase would be necessary. We did the three tombs on the standard ticket, plus King Tut and Ramses between 8:00 AM & 12:00 PM. Tomb photography is regulated, so be sure you understand the rules. They will physically escort you out of a tomb for violations!

Answers to all of the questions below,there were no tickets for cameras inside the valley of the kings, photography is forbidden there. no pets are you crazy???, if u r tipping your guide do it at the end of your tour, do it discreetly inside a handshake, how much is your call, we gave our guide 100USD only because he took us to more places than what was on our tour, we had private tours not in groups, just us two and our guide and the driver, much better service this way, stay at the Luxor resort and spa, it has the best views and the best facilities in Luxor, be4st time of year is if u go go in January as it is winter there, about 25 degrees celcius,

Tuts tomb is not included in any other packages for entry to the Valley of the Kings. It is only about US $3 extra for Tut's tomb, but $10 extra on top of that if you want to pay off the guard to take a photo within the tomb.

It really depends on the arrangements for your trip; we pre-booked and pre-paid for all our visits through a local agent and this included a guide - I went as part of a group of about 30, so the numbers were significantly different, but it was full-on for about 5 whole days - at the end we contributed to whip-rounds for the coach driver, the guide and the two tourist police who had travelled with us extensively in Cairo at all hours of the day and night. At the Valley of the Kings it was fairly free to move around and I don't recall loads of hawkers once you were 'inside the gates' - there is an embargo on cameras and photos here though, but you are free to enter the tombs that are open (not all are open on the same day and you may find only one or two of the 'important' ones open, so it can be pot luck) - but there are good photos of all the tombs in the shop and they are reasonably priced - there are also hawker stalls outside with a wide range of 'products' on offer and available for barter. There was a door man on the tomb entrances with a bowl and some change or a small note (Baksheesh) is always appreciated - it's not long before you realise that the whole economy runs on back-handers and wheel-oiling at many levels -it's a fact of life in Egypt, so go with the flow, but don't over-splash the cash.

I agree with BusyBee and suggest the East Bank. We were on a ship moored on the East Bank and it was very easy to cross the Nile and taxis were obviously very keen to take people to The Valley of the Kings. Agree a price first and I would think you have to ask them to wait for you, but I am not sure. Taxi should not be expensive by anybody's standard. Would suggest you go as early in the morning as you can as it will get very hot. Take water. You cannot take photographs, best leave camera in your hotel if that is the only place you are going to. It cost 100 EP per adult (under £10) and you see the actual mummy as it was damaged when they tried to remove it , so they left it partially covered and you see one of the secondary casks (the gold cask is in Cairo ) but not much else to see in the tomb as all the fame was due to it being the only tomb uncovered totally in tact as it was below a previous kings tomb , ps the guard in the tomb will pester you for money to take picture as they're not allowed !!!!!!

They do seem to keep closing the tombs for maintenance work, although, they are all supposed to be open.

I have no idea tbh. It was open when I visited the tomb in October last year. I can't find any info online so it's best to check with some Egyptian Tour Companies or if you can find an official website. One piece of advice, whether it's open or not, it's still worth visiting the Valley of The Kings as there are a few high profile tombs that are open to public throughout the year. I just read on internet that they have recently opened an exact replica of King Tut's tomb using 3D printing. It's about a mile away from the original tomb. Google it for more info on this if you're interested in visiting.
