The palace itself is beautiful, large and with wonderful gardens. Unfortunately the whole experience is completely ruined by overcrowding and noise, with constant tour groups trampling through every single exhibit. There's no time or mental space to appreciate the place because of the level of noise and people that go through. In short, the place saw yuan signs and opened the floodgates, ruining any experience you could have.

We went on a week day hoping to escape the crowds but it was very busy with people nonetheless.

You can purchase tickets when you arrive at the gate. Perhaps going in winter wasn’t the best idea as there is less greenery and quite freezing for the kids with few inside areas to escape the cold. As a result we went through the palace in about one and a half hours.

The display has expanded to include a section at the beginning that shows the renovations of the palace which was interesting as I had been here over 15 years earlier.

One of the most beautiful gates was the Floral Lintel Gate 垂花门 . In fact you may not notice the gate as you walk through it, but if you turn around you will see it’s beautifully painted and decorated to look very flowery.

Some inner ceiling sections of the garden corridor were repainted with exquisite paintings so this was really delightful and wonderful to look at. Really enjoyed the rooms which were also beautifully decked out. The lake was almost frozen over, so you could see the fish swimming slowly in that section which did not have the ice sheet.

Roads in that area are quite narrow and a little tricky to get Didi car.

Certainly worth a visit. Very close to a metro station. The lakes, gardens and ornamental rocks and boulders are quite special.

Warning ! buy your tickets inside the Mansion; locals who approach you outside the Mansion dont buy it from them;you would be ripe off and that's a guarantee! For example, trishaw vendors would persuade you to take their Trishaw which include entrance ticket to this Mansion for ¥260 dont buy it you could get the same thing and with a tour guide for half the price inside the Mansion 'ticket booth.

What I like about this place:
-Entrance ticket is cheap at ¥40
-This is a massive place so dont rush it , there are lots to see , mainly architectural and the material use to build this place ;silkwood, for example.
-garden landscape to be admired
-of course do take note on how one uses this place once upon a time .
-if you are intrigue what's theatre meant once upon a time to the Chinese then you would be able to see it from this Mansion; extra cost applies.

What dont I like about this place
-you wouldn't be able to enter the rooms to admire its furniture, layout etc. You could only look from the outside

Overall, I like this place a lot. I would certainly visit again but this time without the trishaw option.

Tips: go first thing in the morning to avoid the mass also less people more chance of you taking nice pictures without strangers in your picture.

Wow, this place was so busy. It was really beautiful but I felt I couldn't properly appreciate the garden with all the crowds. I did go on a weekend in the summer which is probably not the best time to visit.

Well worth a visit - the architecture and classic layout of the site is more tangible than the much larger Forbidden City - it was very very busy with families on an August Saturday... but the ticket queue went quickly.. be aware that there are almost no English signs once inside- so read up before... there are a few displays of how the interior of the buildings would have been set up which was interesting... the garden was packed with people making it hard to imagine a place of tranquility and reflection for a noble family in the heart of Beijing!! Excellent people watching- seeing families on a day out enjoying the Mansion and it’s gardens- and be aware that the gardens are predominantly carefully made stone structures and grottos ... not that much greenery... and a key attraction is a grotto with a hologram... so a bit tacky- but long queues to see it - we didn’t...

Personally I found this attraction extremely beautiful, especially the gardens. We didn't spend much time looking at the mansion, but we walked through the gardens, which you could tell were taken good care of.
Prince Kung's Mansion is located a little outside centrum. We walked there from The Forbidden City, but there was a subway station right next to it, so you could go there by subway as well.
The tickets (40 CNY) were easy to buy (by the entrance). The people working there spoke English, and the signs were in English as well.
Please be aware that Prince Kung's Mansion is closed on Mondays.
The mansion and the gardens are not enormous, but I recommend going there if you visit Beijing.

Its nice but not as great as expected. Kind of walked around quickly n got out. If you are around the hutongs area you should go. But it is not a must see. No reason to come especially for it. Cheap ticket so did not mind it go got boring quickly.

This is a prince mansion in Beijing, but it’s popular because this used to be the home of a notorious subject (lawmaker) of the Qing Imperial court - HeShen. This character has appeared in multiple Chinese television shows so most Chinese tourists from out of town come to learn about him. It’s also rumored to be the inspiration for Dream of the Red Chamber, a Chinese literature classic. Tranquil is not a word I would use because of the large crowds. They made this place more interesting than it really is with HeShen’s character. 90% of the Chinese tour content centers around him. You must get the audio guide because all the exhibits are in Chinese. Also difficult to get to because it’s hidden in the Hutong area - lots of twists and turns and if you don’t have a map, you can easily get lost. Also lots of rickshaws waiting on the Main Street to take tourists there - I wouldn’t recommend them because you’ll either A) get ripped off, B) they’ll take you somewhere else and ask for additional money or they’ll leave you there. All in all, worth seeing but probably worth more to Chinese people who are fans of the television shows and literary classic.

It's the very first site we visited during our trip and it left quite an impression. Very spacious compound. The gardens are very nice and tranquil. The place stil very well maintained.

Be sure to go have a speedy look at the famed 福 inscribed in stone ...and swipe for good luck ;)
