I am so glad we did this tour, it was truly wonderful! From the pickup at the hotel until drop off it was perfect. The drive through the villages was really special and gave us a great insight into the lives of the local villages. Our guides, Brothers Moses and ‘Fiji’ Sadam were so informative and friendly. We felt like family. We had a welcome ceremony at the Priests village and presented the Head Priest with kava root while Moses spoke for our group asking permission to enter the caves. A short walk, only 5 minutes to the cave entrance. We had to wear shoes (do not take them off, you need them), then we had to bend low to get through the low entrance, wading through thigh high water. I’m 62 and hubby is 67 with bad knees and we had no problem at all. The caves are very large and open as well. They’re not lit, everyone is wearing headlamps to there’s plenty of light. Sadam was full of information and so interesting, we learnt so much. After leaving the cave and its great sights we had a BBQ lunch of local foods with kava as well. The food was excellent and so was the kava! Definitely a highly recommended tour no matter your age! ❤️

Make sure you do this with one of the traditional tour companies.
I did this with a "second level" operator, a bit cheaper, but no Kava ceremony, entry fee not included, no lunch and little knowledge of the history.
I would definitely do it again, but, next time with a "proper" tour operator. Reef shoes an advantage.

Great trip through traditional villages and a short walk to the caves after a traditional kava ceremony and blessing. Lunch in the “jungle” was really nice. The guides were really informative and friendly and everything very well organised. Ideal trip for any age and fitness level. Take some gifts for the village children - one of the families on our trip did and I really wished I had. The children run up to the truck and are really excited about the visit - they are pretty isolated so great to see the smiles on their faces and the high fives and bulas! Also take insect repellent if you are prone to getting bitten

Great tour with Off Road adventures. The local custodians of the cave are very gracious in allowing us into what is sacred area. Fascinating history, although somewhat disturbing at times.

A fantastic place to visit to learn more about Fijian people, past and present. The caves have some lovely limestone formations, but the overall experience and learning more about the history and culture of the people here is what made the trip as great as it is. I love that the caves (and villages) are not commercialised at all. We went with Off Road Cave Safari and they managed the tour well.

What an incredible place. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the caves and were incredibly thankful to see that they have been kept in their natural condition and that they haven't been altered for the sake of tourists.
Make sure you wear your reef or exercise shoes; jandals won't really cut it.

An experience that is different to the sun and sand, expensive resorts and island cruises. This safari will take you from Sigatoka town to the caves through authentic Fijian villages and give you a glimpse of the Fijian village life. The drivers/guide are extremely competent and knowledgable about many native plants and attractions along the way. We had Bella and Laps as our guide, who were simply amazing! The cave itself was a beautiful experience with a rich history that will stay with you for a long time.
We booked through Expedia, but most of the hotels have Rosie Holiday tour desk (Intercontinental etc) at the site. Lather your sunscreen, wear shoes you don't mind getting wet and bring an empty bottle to fill with authentic Fiji water directly from the source! Would recommend 10/10.

I am claustrophobic, do the caves have tight entrances or exits?

Yes the entrance of the cave has a narrow opening & there are also some instances where when you're inside the cave the openings are quite narrow too.
Thankyou.I hope that helps you.

Hi,
There are usually 2 trips. The morning one is the Shotover Jet boat ride along the Sigatoka River. The trip to the cave is usually in the afternoon. The bus departs from your respective hotels at around 12 noon to 1pm..
Thankyou..
