placed in the Dolac market praises the figure of the peasants called Kumica, hardworking women who since ancient times provided for the needs of the house with their work in the fields and went to the markets (for sales and exchanges) bringing fruit and vegetables with a large basket on the head, the statue is very large and impressive.

I actually thought this statue was part of the Cevapi restaurant by the top of the stairs as their was a sign just beside it.
The statue is at the top of the stairs just at the entrance of the market. Its a marker to the entrance of the most famous market in Zagreb.
Its a must do selfie when going to the market.

The statue of Kumica Barica depicts a woman who is in Zagreb to sell her wares in the main Zagreb market, Dolac. Kumica Barica is the name given to the statue by the citizens of Zagreb. I was told that “Kumica Barica” colloquially means woman from a rural area. In any case, the statue tells the story of older times when villagers had the back-breaking task of carrying the goods into the main towns to sell.

The statue stands at the top of the steps leading down to Dolac markets. It depicts a rural woman dressed in the stereotypical fashion and carrying a basket full of goods on her head. A nice reminder of olden times.

Dolac Market is the most famous market in Zagreb and as much as I detest the thought of shopping on any holiday I take I must say I was impressed by the market ,loved the atmosphere here ,on the market square is this statue dedicated to the peasant market women who traditionally were the beating heart of this market.
The statue dedicated to a peasant women ,fictional or real ,not sure who's called Kumica Barica ,unveiled in 2006 ,it's a great statue to view and a selfie magnet ,it's easy to locate on Gornji Grad Medvescak on Dolac Market.

Dolac market is Zagreb’s most famous outdoor food and produce market. Rising above Ban Jelačić Square, it draws locals and tourists alike.

The power that keeps this “belly” of Zagreb going is the numerous women (and some men) who come very early every day, prepare their stands and wait for their customers.

This tradition has been going on since 1930, when Dolac market opened. It is no wonder that one such woman was cast in bronze, in the sculpture called “Kumica Barica”.

Kumica Barica (kumica loosely translates to “outdoor market selling lady”) is a work by the sculptor Stjepan Gračan. The name “Barica” was chosen by citizens of Zagreb. It was recently reported that kumica Barica was modeled after a real life woman, kumica Đurđica, who has been a Dolac selling lady for many, many years, selling fruit and vegetables. She can now boast of being a model, too!

The sculpture was put at the top of the stairs leading from ban Jelačić Square to Dolac in 2006.

Although it is not hidden from sight, the crowds at the market often cause it to be overlooked by passers-by.

However, in the afternoon hours, when the market is emptied out, it remains there, almost alone, “the only kumica who never leaves Dolac”, as we locals like to joke.

This lady statue is placed close to Dolac marked.

Its a honor to all lady who have for many years have been at Dolac market for selling vegetables, fruit of clairly products.

The Dolac marked is the biggest marked of this products and called the heartbeat in the city.

Full of life. People. Smells. Tastes.

Kumina Barica is not a real person but called up after this meaning.
Kumica means godmother. And Barica is choosed by the people of Zagreb and are a kind of lday name who is well used here.

The bronze statue was made by Stjepan Grazan.

She is a example of a lady coming to marked every day with big baskets full of vegetables and fruit.

Now I shall look if I have photo of her.

Right next to the market, this was a really random yet, cool statue of this lady with a basket on her head. It was the perfect spot for it, as all the vendors there showcase their local goods!

At the top of the stairs near the Dolac market is a statue of a lady dressed in traditional clothing who would have sold her wares at the market, many years ago, right next to the statue is a restaurant called Bistro Dolac it is very reasonably priced and it serves traditional Zagreb food, it also has a great outdoor patio to sit and have lunch or supper and people watch what’s happening at the market.

Only after I visited, did I read about this statue. Nice tribute. The market is a must see, and you could go back again and again. Great sites, reasonable prices, and great smells.
