There was a very good sealed road down to the lookout that had a large car park, BBQ and picnic facilities and toilets. The whole area is covered with Norfolk Pines.
The small stone obelisk which roughly marks the spot where Cook and his party landed during his voyage in 1774 is about a 50 metre walk down the grassy hill. The main lookout is a further approximately 100 metre fairly steep walk down the grassy hill.
Once at the lookout you are afforded some great views of the coast line and some interesting rock formations including an arch.
On the left hand side as you walk down the hill there is a wooden boardwalk and another lookout which gives you views over Duncombe Bay where Cook's boats are said to have beached. When you see the rocks on the approach to the beach, the steep cliffs and waves breaking fiercely against the shore you cannot but be in awe of their feat.

This should be high on your list for great views or a lovely walk.
We walked the Bridle track to the lookout, which was just over 5kms .
The road to Captain Cooks's lookout was closed, but if fit and able, the walk is well worth it.
A few side tracks to take you to different vantage points of interest..
A few steep sections along the way but sheltered from the sun and does get quite muddy after recent rains.

Nice views, scenic and green location, but unfortunately the car park was closed and only way to access the monument and views was by a 5 km return hike via the Bridle Track, which was a bit muddy after the rain. Upon making the monument before a rain shower there really was no reason why the car park was still closed as it was the weekend and no one was working on the site, plenty of room to still park and access safely. Would of made it difficult for elderly, disabled or young to access via a 5km hike, overwise very good spot.

Definitely worth visiting this beautiful but rugged are of the Norfolk Coastline. Even more remarkable when you see where Captain Cook chose to come ashore. You can't help but question his thinking. A great spot to have a picnic lunch if you choose and the area is largely boardwalked, but there are other walking tracks that arent' that you can enjoy whilst in the area.

This monument marks the point where Captain Cook decided to land on Norfolk Island. It is the most rugged coastline so one can only image the struggles his crew had climbing up. Beautiful views from the lookout. It is also a nice drive from Kingston. Take good walking shoes because the ground is sloped. The monument is worth a photo.

Take the time to view the stone monument and the approximate landing site. I was bewildered by the choice - seemed an odd place for an experienced Captain to set foot on Norfolk.
There are also a number of short walks to experience commencing from this location. Plenty of parking, toilets, picnic tables and BBQs available.

A nice picnic spot, and a starting point for a good clifftop walking trail, while taking in a bit of historical location. Not where I would have landed should the topography have been the same, but there is some sort of story here. Thoroughly recommend taking a few hours to walk the Bridle Track and take in diversion to Bird Rock viewpoint. Stunning coastline, island views, coastal vegetation and Norfolk Pines. Very steep in parts.

This is a great spot to visit, I think more for the views of the very rugged coastline than the Cook monument itself. Immediately below the lookout is the spot is where Captain Cook allegedly came ashore and claimed NI for the British Crown. When you look at the spot, it is hard to believe. (See photo!) There are also some beautiful Norfolk island pine forests here and the seabirds swirling around overhead are also very impressive. Visited here twice, liked it so much.

Well worth the walk along the Bridle track, and also if you drive up there. BBQ area with toilets and plenty of space for children to move around.
