I know everyone says you must see a traditional Apsara Dance show whilst in Cambodia...so I did. However, it was not for me.
Whilst I could appreciate the skill involved, once I'd watched the first few minutes the rest dragged on a bit. Sorry, but for me once you've seen a lady bend their fingers back once then you don't need to see it over and over throughout the show. It also wasn't all dancing as bits had a more martial arts vibe with mock fighting (I couldn't follow what the story was).
What really got to me though and why I give only 2 stars was the musical accompaniment, which plays a large part in the overall show. Unfortunately, the dance was accompanied by what I can only describe as a terrible wailing sound (not what I call singing) and banging of drums. I found this really distracting and could not enjoy the floor show. It's all subjective though and others around me seemed to love it so each to their own.
I loved the meal though!

Chose a five or seven course dinner. Multiple performances of various forms of tradition dance. The food was excellent. The dancers were good. I'd recommend this.

While visiting Siem Reap, all travelers must attend, at least once, a performance of Cambodia' s traditional dances, mostly known as "Apsara Dances". "Apsaras" are those celestial dancers that adorn the walls of most temples and monuments within "Angkor Archaeological Park", as well as in very many other places all over Cambodia. The "Apsara Dances", as an important part of the Khmer culture, are not merely dances, but they are meant to convey a story or a message from Cambodia's traditional folklore. "Apsara Dances" are performed at different venues in Siem Reap, as in the sophisticated and luxurious "The Royal Court", at "Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort", followed by cocktails and buffet dinner with fine dishes from the outstanding Khmer cuisine. Enjoy!

The ambience was great. Seated at dining tables lit by small lights while watching the stage. The drinks and dinner were served very professionally while we were watching the Apsara dances. A four course dinner- and very very tasty.

The traditional Apsara dance performance is held in the courtyard of the luxury Sofitel hotel. The open air performance is combined with a traditional dinner buffet with the food held in clay pots and plants and trees serving as the back-drop. Lanterns strung from the trees provide an intimate ambience. The performance is held next to a small lake which gives it a very natural and traditional setting.
The performance itself has several acts related to Cambodian history and culture in addition to the traditional Apsara dance. The dancers wear exquisite traditional costumes and the performance is accompanied by live music performed by a local band.
Food is excellent although the menu is more traditional Khmer. Service is excellent.
This is a great way to get a taste of with Cambodian history and Khmer culture in a smaller and more intimate setting.
