Very well laid out and maintained theme park. Originally the movie set for the Three Kingdoms and the Water Margin (Shui Hu), TV series. As I'm not familiar with the Shui Hu story (Song Dynasty period), I enjoyed the content in the second half of the park less, but that did not take away from the objective quality of the installations.
For the amount of extra money that had to be spent on additional activities inside the park and the concessions, the entry fee was a bit too much (RMB375 or ~CAD70 for two adults and a child), bit nevertheless, had a very pleasant experience. Depending on how many rides you'd want to do or how much detail you'd want to cover in various pavilions, about 4 hours can be quite sufficient. Some time can be saved by eliminating some walking through renting a bicycle carriage or an electric scooter that fits 3 people (RMB180 for 2 hours).
On the day we visited, the crowds visibly picked up around 2-3pm, with parking lot nearly full. At the time we entered at 11:30 or so, there were no lineups and the parking lot was half empty.

This area was used to film two very popular Chinese television programs, 'Water Margin,' and 'Three Kingdoms.' Because of this, it feels like you're walking through a studio set, which is rather interesting. There are trams which take guests on short tours, but walking is easy, too. There are a few diversions, including some small rides for children, boat excursions on the lake, costumed photo opportunities, and a rather impressive live equestrian show. Limited food and beverage options inside the park, but a variety of vendors near the entrance gate.

It is after a model for TV shooting.. don't get to see the original building or authentic stuff. IF it is for photo shot, I supposed you may want to go. But if you want the real stuff.. a museum would be recommended

See my previous review under the CCTV Studios heading. No need to repeat myself. I will add, overpriced and very few restaurants (mostly street vendor food). On a positive note, it is a beautiful day trip to just relax and enjoy the sites. For some reason, I had an amusement park setting in my mind like Orlando, Florida's Movie theme parks.

This is where the Three Kingdom Movie making take place. I never watched the movie before, but i guess it is a chinese colosal movie and a very popular one too. For a making movie area i think the place is so good. The building in the area is really like a real palace and chinese village at the old time. The architecture is good. We also can try chinese royal suit and have some pictures with the suit in the palace area. There is also lake nearby the palace. The lake itself is very huge. We can ride on an ancient boat to explore some part of the lake.

Went with family on a hazy day, this added the mode as the surrounding is foggy .. need to catch the timing for two show is the best ..one is horse reproduce the one of the battle scene. The other is a mini sea battle using scale boay, need to be near centre and early to catch best spot . The food along the street is generally OK and reasonable. There is a children players where they simulate how old time sailor is been trained and found a few games replicating old times weapon and kids like it a lot ..pleasant surprise ..

Even if you are keen on Chinese films you can enjoy this place. It is a great spot to discover different era of Chinese history. Walking through the park is nice but walking near the lake is awful because of the smell.

If You are not chinese and have no kids, not a great fun.
If You are close to the lake, smell is dreadful.
Only good point : see différent kind of palace from different areas in once.
Not too expensive, easy to go by taxi and to come back.

1) This scenic spot is located at Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China. It was part of the drop off plan in our holiday trip to Hangzhou. You can take high speed bullet train from Hangzhou to reach Wuxi. It has been a shooting place for several famous TV series. Water margin xxx is one of them. It has another name called CCTV Wuxi Movie & TV Production Base.
2)They have English version website. You can browse through the basic info from here first. It may be best for you guys to engage a local 1 day tour for better understanding.
3) I not so sure whether they have books related to the "The Making of Water Margins" ... u can try to email to their official website. If story books related to water margins are easy to be found. If you have opportunity travel to China, you can check them through one of their biggest bookstore in the town u visit.

hi, I am Nicholas higgs, I live near tre-r-ddol which is near Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, wales, united kingdom. I have been a great fan of the water margin since 1977.
my questions are
where in china/ japan is the town of the water margin located & filmed at?
where were the fight scenes filmed?
are the public allowed to visit the location of the town where the water margin was filmed?
also please could you recommend the best books about the filming of the water margin?
I would be very grateful for your assistance.
many thanks
Nicholas higgs

Hi Nicholas
Like everything in China, it's all amount money. this is a recreation of the architecture during the three kingdoms period. As the mentioned in the previous response, yes, you can visit and it's located in Wuxi China. A couple of pointers, if you are going to both, go early, crowds will start building up around 10:00 am and start decreasing about 3:00pm. Now that school has started here in China, i expect the crowds would be less during the week and more on the weekend. If you stay all day, finding transportation back to your hotel will be more challenging after 4:00pm and may be limited to black taxi's. Make sure you have your address card and find out the price before you get it to the taxi. Understanding or speaking some mandarin is needed.
There is a bus would drop you off, (your hotel can help you find where to take) but if you want to take back you need to find out when the last bus departs from the attraction. there are many websites available with helpful information, please search for Wuxi 3 kingdoms, water margin city, lingshan, and so on or search for Wuxi attractions.
There are many other great views in the Wuxi area, so if you have time check out what else is in this area. Everything i went to was accessible by city bus (cheapest way) and taxi (more expensive).
have fun and happy travels.
