The start is a lovely walk through a shaded canopy with tortoises. It was very interesting and some where in the woods not just the feeding stations which gave it a more authentic feel.
Then it continued to a trail with rock formations and shows where the early settlers lived.
The backstory there is quite surprising.

This was the highlight of Floreana. It starts with a nature trail through canopied forests and into an enclosure where you can mingle with two dozen Floreana tortoises. Then there’s the labyrinth, a series of volcanic stone passages to a peak with expansive scenic views. Finally, there are the rock-hewn cave dwellings of the colorful first inhabitants of the island, whose stories are so bizarre they must be true, and the faux-Tiki head sculpture that looks like it was carved by (non-existent) indigenous people. It’s a lot of interesting things in a short loop trail.

Our G Adventures group took a chiva (truck) along the long stretch of road from our community guesthouses to the official site. This is the place were the first settlers of the Galapagos lived and their descendants still live on the island to this day.
We were given a history lesson and shown the old cave dwellings as well as the corral of giant tortoises.
All in all an interesting few hours.

A change for something different. The walk was great and amazing story of a family who used to take shelter in the Pirate Cave. The views of the island from the top was great too.

This is the THE EXPERIENCE of the trip! We were able to actually play with the Sea Lions as they came up to us snorkeling in their territory. They were clearly "happy" to see us and readily swam up to us--looked into our face mask, and then performed for us--to encourage us to play with them. They are absolutely wonderful swimmers, and can put on a great show up close and personal. If you are willing to "perform" for them (which means that you have to dive deep, roll over in the water, do summer salts, and not be afraid of them), they will bump into you, hit you with a flipper and keep playing as long as you want to do so! It is so incredible to interact with a wild animal and not be scuba diving. It was a lot of fun--something that I had never done.
We also saw some HUGE sea turtles that we could approach and let them bump into us. We could actually push them out of our way and they could hardly notice! They were very interested in grazing and we were a mere inconvenience to them!
The number of small sharks was impressive--they were constant companions on the snorkel trip. We also saw huge schools of fish in large "balls" that were amazing. The wall was a perfect place for the rays to "sail by" below us. There were Eagles, Goldens and some I did not recognize. They are beautiful to see swimming in the wild. There were so many of them that we lost count!
The water was very comfortable and the clearity was at least 75 feet. All in all, it was probably the best snorkeling experience I have ever had.

As a local of the Galapagos islands and a member from Floreana island I recomend to visit el "Asilo de la paz" an interesting place that involves pirates, colonization and misterious stories, if you are looking to conect with the nature and feel relaxed, this is the place!

The tortoise reserve has the recently repatriated Floreana tortoises (had feared to have been extinct until recently) and also larger hybrid tortoises. It´s a very easy walk with a clear path. It´s a question of luck whether you get to see the tortoises up close or not - depending on how close they are to the path.
From this reserve, you continue up to the rocks from where the fresh drinking water originates. Then onto the labyrinth of rocks and the caves where the first settlers lived. Great views from here.

Visitar este lugar es viajar en el tiempo, las tortugas gigantes, la vertiente de agua natural con la que sobrevive la actual población y las cuevas donde vivieron los primeros habitantes de esta isla, hacen de Floreana una isla diferente.

We had a great tour here, we saw many wonderful sights. We got to see one of the few fresh water sources in all the islands. The boat ride can be rough so be prepared but we thought it was worth the ride.
