You can only come here with an organized tour and nature guide. Only a very limited number of people are allowed to go there a few times a week.
It is the only place on the Galapagos where you can see the rare RED footed boobies and their nests/young ones in the trees as a tourist. Also the nests of blue footed boobies and their young on the ground.
The trip by boat takes at least 1.5 hours in good weather and calm seas. Along the way you will see Kicker Rock from a distance and with a bit of luck whales (we saw a mother and calf humpback whale coming up 50 meters from the boat).
The walk goes up via the beach (wet landing) via a steep "path". Shoes with grip or Tevas, for example, are fine. Mountain boots are an exaggeration in our opinion. (Toe) slippers are completely unsuitable.
Tip: Take insect repellent spray with you and apply it especially to your legs. The so-called horsefly, pack fly, gadfly or horse fly, bites (it is not a sting but a bite with the mouth parts) very nasty, sneaky but above all very painful. This is the case on many Galapafos beaches and it can really ruin your visit.
The hike/walk itself takes about 1.5 to 2 hours with explanation. Take water with you, because it can get quite hot under the direct sun.
We think the hike is doable, provided you wear shoes with grip.
If you have never swam/snorkeled or dived with sea lions before, this is highly recommended. Almost 100% sure that the playful sea lions will approach you.

Place of red footed booby. Had extensive coastal sight seeing of coast cliffs to see the red footed booby. Beautiful with lots of birds.

We visited Punta Pitt as a day trip from San Cristobal Island on the Galapagos Party Boat. That is just the name of the boat, it was just an excursion boat. Attentive captain and crew, knowledgeable naturalist. It was a rather difficult climb—I will rate it a 4 out of 5–but the views and the wildlife were worth it. There was a snorkeling or scuba diving experience included with the trip. I would recommend this trip if you are on San Cristobal. We booked the excursion through Sharksky. They provided walking sticks which were very helpful.

We booked a day tour to Punta Pitt on Kpitana (Wreck Bay Diving Center) with Galapagos a la Carte, and had an excellent day. Our guide, Christian was eager to share his excitement and knowledge about the Galapagos Islands with us.
He took his time and allowed us to enjoy every moment of the tour. There were only 3 of us on the tour, so we were very lucky it wasn't cancelled. We later learned that the minimum is usually 4, but Byron from Galapagos a la Carte has an agreement that his clients' tours will not be cancelled, even if the minimum requirement is not met. Just one more reason to book with Galapagos a la Carte!
The scenery along the coast of San Cristobal Island was amazing and the snorkeling was great. The views and wildlife on Punta Pitt were incredible.
This was our first tour in Galapagos - what a great way to start off our expedition!

I doubt I would need more than that
360 trip zips you around it
Impressive but we got no geology so it was just the end of the island and then Darwin’s window
Not a bad tour - long day but we did get to snorkel at kicker rock

The walk up the hill is quite strenuous but should be within the abilities of most. The views from the top reward. There is a decent amount of wildlife to be seen

Unfortunately if you are on 360 tour you can admire Punta Pitt just from the boat. Also the stop here was quite short. I wish we could spend more time there. You can see blue and red footed boobies and Nazca boobies or frigate. It can be great spot for snorkeling. Nearby we could see playful dolphins.

We had a guide who took us on a nature walk up to the very top of the hill to arrive at the most eastern point of the Galapagos Island. At points the climb was steep so good walking shoes are advisable. We walked past many courting Boobies couple some already have their eggs. It’s probably the closest we have been to them so some great photo opportunities. The views at the top were quite stunning looking back down to the golden sandy beach.

Blue footed booby was nesting with three eggs near the path. Numerous blue footed boobies. First sighting of red footed boobies. Iguanas were nesting in a sand pit. Beautiful landscapes.

We stopped here for an afternoon hike and swim and thoroughly enjoyed it. The afternoon was quite warm but the hike was not very demanding. We saw all three species of boobies and other birds and the vistas were magnificent. We also took a very welcoming swim after the hot hike. We did not really snorkel here (although I think it is possible to do so), so I can't comment on that.

How challenging is this hike? I read reviews that it’s steep rocky terrain and my boat operator rated it demanding. I’m worried whether I can make it to the top
Rédigé le 23 août 2022
It is rather challenging. We are 72 and 69 years young. Our operator lent us walking sticks which were quite helpful. We had finished an 8 day live aboard excursion so had been doing some hiking during that time which helped prepare us for Punta Pitt. The views and the wildlife are worth the hike if you can do it.

We'll be staying on San Cristobal island for a few days in mid-November
. What is the best way to do a day trip to Punta Pitt and what is the approximate cost? How do we book this in advance?
Rédigé le 31 octobre 2017
While I am sure you have already been to the Galapagos and returned, I will give an answer for others who may have the same question. You will need to go with a boat operator. We used Sharksky to book and were pleased with their service. I would estimate that the cost is about $100 per person.

Which tour company did you use to go to Punta Pitt? Going in September and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Who did you use as tour company to go to Punta Pitt? I am planning September and doing day tours no cruise. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi Joe-
Did you do a cruise around the Galapagos, or did you take a day trip to Punta Pitt from San Cristobal? If you took a day trip from San Cristobal, which tour company did you use and would you recommend them?
Thanks!

Hi, I will be in San Cristobal in late April, 2017 and would like to book a day trip to Punta Pitt. Can you recommend any tour operators to whom i would like to book in advance. Thanks

Can someone please advise me on what operator to contact for naturalist guide trip to Punta Pitt? Thanks!
Rédigé le 14 octobre 2016
If you book a tour to Punta Pitt, naturalist guide is always included. If you going on a cruise Punta Pitt is mostly included on excursion. I don't think you can go by yourself to that area, a naturalist guide is necessary. Any operator in the island they provide you a local guide
