Literally got the whole waterfall to ourselves after a short hike!! However, as a caution, Trips from Lautoka town to the park should only range from $30-$40 Fijian dollars one way (As most taxis have not been to the park and will try to scam you to pay up to 200!) We also met Liam, a peace corps volunteer who is mutually aiding the Abaca village right before the park entrance who provides information about the park & will even call folks a taxi to and from.
Entrance fee is $25 and goes solely to the village.
More info:
• taxi we took: Dipak +679-763-4356
• peace corp volunteer Liam for more info: +679-721-9626
As a bit of annoyance, we did notice
people complaining about the spiders and under development, but what do you expect? Yes there are spiders, and trails aren’t paved, but that’s nature and village run, not some over tourism hub spaces like in Hawai’i. And please be mindful of the type of sunblock, bug spray, and products you are using. We opted for citronella oil, hiking with flip flops, and setting reef-safe sunscreen at least 20 minutes before swimming in some spaces, no bites & no issues.

The walking trails in Koroyanitu NP are stunning. I intended to go with a guide on my trip because being a solo female traveller in an unknown place I wanted some assurances around safety (and to just be able to enjoy the hike!). A huge thank you to the folks at the Ideal Bed and Breakfast - I wasn't a guest but had read a review for their accommodation mentioning a guide for Abaca village where the hike starts. I cold called in to their place and they were super kind and flexible to organise one of their staff, Knox, to take me. They even offered breakfast, and Knox made a packed lunch. The cost in total from their accom in Nadi was 160fjd, not including the fee paid to Abaca village (25fjd ea). Knox knows the tracks well and was a wonderful guide, pointing/picking out local fruits and plants along the way.
Addit - The cost of getting lost is pretty high (literally - approx 750 fjd per person if the village needs to send people to search for you), so if in doubt, I highly recommend the guided version. Give the lovely folks at the Ideal Bed and Breakfast in Wailoala a call.

Bula Ariella, so happy you came to visit the park and that you enjoyed the trek. I live in the village and promise there is not a $750 fee if you get lost, but we do recommend hiring guides from the village or trusted operators so they can ensure you follow the correct trail and can share information about the birds and plants native to our park. Vinaka Vakalevu and hope to see you again.

My wife and I recently completed the hike up to Mount Batilamu, which is located within the Koroyanitu national park in Fiji. We stayed overnight in the hikers hut at the top of Mount Batilamu before coming down the next day. We struggled to find comprehensive information about this activity so I thought I’d leave a fairly thorough review for those considering doing it, based on our own experience.
GETTING THERE
To get to the Koroyanitu national park you either need to find a taxi with a 4WD or organise 4WD car hire. There is no public transportation connections. The location you’re travelling to is known as ‘Abaca’ and that’s the village within the national park that manages the hiking trails (including the hike up Mount Batilamu as well as another hike to a local waterfall) and includes the visitors centre (a hut really that takes entry payments). The drive takes just over an hour from Nadi and the last 10km occurs across a dirt/gravel track. There is also a single creek crossing (I’ve included a picture to this review) that needs to be taken into consideration. This is why you need a 4WD. In wet season I would imagine this creek could flow more and this could potentially become impassable. If you put ‘abaca’ into google, google maps provides accurate directions. It’ll take you along the queens highway north, before skirting the south eastern edge of lautoka and then going into the mountains. When trying to organise a taxi I believe we were quoted 180FJD for a one way trip, or 200FJD for the drive to wait and take us back. Given we were staying overnight we probably would’ve had to pay 180FJD x 2 so we decided to hire a car and take that there. We were able to park it in the village overnight and collect it in the morning. This worked out ideal for us as we were able to visit the garden of the sleeping giant and the sabeto hot springs on the way back to Nadi.
COST
Admission to the national park was 25FJD each. We paid this at the hut located in abaca. We were charged a further 35FJD each to stay in the hut overnight - so a total of 60FJD per person. I have read different prices for staying in the hut so I think they might just make this up on the spot.
THE HUT
The hut is a small hikers hut located at the top of mount Batilamu, around 5 minutes walk from the end viewpoint of the hike. It doesn’t have any electricity but the lady at the visitors centre gave us a light to use.. It contains a few rainwater tanks which contained water at the time we visited. Getting the tanks to work was a bit tricky (rather than twisting the tap you have to pull it up and down). Inside the hut was a series of mattresses, with bedding (both sheet and heavier quilt). I think about a dozen people could sleep in there. There was basic cooking utensils and a gas bottle with a very old stove. The stove was quite old but the ignition switch did work (Although consider taking a lighter up here in case it doesn’t). There was a drop toilet around 2 minutes walk from the hut. There are no showers but you could use the rainwater to have a sponge bath/shower (This is what we did).
We tried to book into the hut by contacting ‘Pau’ - the man whose name is listed on this tripadvisor listing multiple times as the person responsible for managing the national park. However, we attempted to call him on every number listed and emailed him and never got a response. In the end we just rocked up and were the only ones in the hut overnight. I think there is plenty of space in the hut so this shouldn’t be a problem. There is also accomodation available in the village of abaca if you get caught out.
THE HIKE
The hike was fun although surprisingly challenging. AllTrails has it as 6.9km return and 800m elevation. It took us 3 hours to get up and 2 hours to get down. The directions given at the visitors centre are very vague particularly for the starting point. There are two options here - first would just be to down the AllTrails app and follow the hike listed on there for mount Batilamu. It was accurate. We had digicel reception the entire time including at the top of the mountain. The second option would just to follow these instructions - After paying your fee at the hut exit the hut and turn right (The person should point at least this bit out). Follow the road down and you will get to a stream. Cross the stream and continue to the cattle gate. Go through the cattle gate and then turn left. From here the path becomes a lot easier to follow. The first half of the path you are walking through grassland. This is good in the sense that you get unobstructed views of the island but its bad in the sense that it is very hot and you are very exposed. At about half way you go into jungle/rainforest and the hike becomes more steep but more sheltered. Once you get to the hikers hut make sure to keep following the trail for another 5 minutes or so. Its end point is a rock ledge that faces south. It has a bench and roped off area. Bring plenty of water (I would suggest 2L each at least), sunscreen and a hat.
Overall we had a lovely time here both doing the hike and staying overnight in the hikers hut and I wouldn’t have any hesitation recommending this to others - either as a day trip or an overnight hike.

Although the walk to the waterfall is nice, it is not worth the $25 per person charged by the local village. And they also charged our Fijian local driver $20 which we had to pay when he should really have been free / then they wanted to charge us another $50 for a guide which we did not pay. The path to the Waterfall was not well marked and it was overgrown, and badly maintained. and we lost the track several times. Do not recommend this for a day tour.

We opted to hike to the summit without a guide, the hike is truly lovely and well worth it.
With plenty of stops along the way it took us 3 hours to get up. We were rewarded with a stunning view.
There is a very vague map at the starting hut where you pay. We battled finding the correct start of the summit trial head but when we did it was super easy to follow the trail to the top.
From memory; at the hut in the village where you pay, you exit the hut and turn right down the road/jeep track (towards the mountain)
there is a stream/water running over the road/jeep track, just before the stream/water there is a trail to your right, take the trail to your right and follow it downhill
you will get to a proper stream/river, need to cross the stream
once you cross the stream go through the cattle gate (close it behind you if it was closed)
once you are through the cattle gate there are a few paths, take the one to the far left, follow this up the hill, the path does become well defined, and you cannot get lost from here
the path follows waist height vegetation, into grassland and then eventually through the most amazing forest
when you get the ‘top’ walk past the hikers hut, the path carries on and you will arrive at the view point in about 7 minutes.
Exact same path to get back down to the start
We organised a ride up with Paul; we reached him on the following number, 2357 644/ 7193 194 and email address, pauliasikuba62@gmail.com . It cost us $160 FJD for a return journey.

We have been to Koroynitu Park half a dozen times and will continue to go back. Our favorite activites here are the Batilamu hike (expect to take 5-6 hours with a lot of elevation gain the first 2 miles). It is a very well defined trail (by Fiji standards) and offers what I think is one of the most rewarding views at the top. We also love river tracing and have found some amazing "hidden" waterfalls and swimming holes by exploring the rivers nearby. Expect to pay the $25 FJD visitor fee which goes to the village and helps them operate and maintain the park. Additionally, please show proper respect when in the village by not wearing your hat, wearing a shirt, and women should wear a sulu if you have one. These are all proper signs of respect when visiting a village where the chief is present. Another great thing about this place is you can go on Sunday!

See AllTrails reviews for Mounta Batilamu Lodge for more reviews and recorded activities of the hike itself. I'd recommend this trail to anyone interested in a moderate-strenous hike with forests, mountains, and grand vistas.
To help facilitate transport, we reached out to Reiaz (spelling?), a taxi driver, at 9058505 (his number is also listed in a previous Tripadvisor review). Luckily, he happened to be available the day we called, and so he picked us up from Nadi Town and drove us to the trailhead (and back) for 250 FJD for two people in a vehicle with 4WD. Reiaz was kind, warm, and experienced; he has been driving to Koroyanitu National Heritage Park for decades, so he is very familiar with the road conditions. On the way back home, he even bought us a small snack and helped accommodate some our errands. I definitely recommend Reiaz as a taxi driver for anyone interested in attempting this hike.
*Note that one of the roads leading to the trailhead occassionally floods and makes the village/trailhead inaccessible by car.

I was fortunate enough to have been a guided tour up to Batilamu with the wonderful tour guide Gerard Jam and his bunch of friends. It was an amazing experience. The steep climb, the thousand pauses, the curses, the aches and pains were all worth it once you reached the top. It was just spectacular. The views were just amazing and the weather was fine. I would totally recommend this.

This is absolutely not a review of Koroyanitu National Park, as we never actually made it there. (We have given 3 stars to balance our poor experience with the fact that we never actually saw the park...)
Following the recommendations of several other travellers, we reached out to the Abaca Village Manager Pau using the email address provided in the last review. He responded quickly and helped us organise a trip to climb Mt Batilamu.
However, on the day of our trip, the promised driver never showed up. Pau did not contact us to let us know, and has been unreachable since. We tried all of the many phone numbers listed for him on the day and were unable to find a number that connected.
We understand that Abaca is a remote village with limited electricity etc, and so it's understandable that something might have gone wrong. However, we thought it was important to make sure other travellers know that this option for accessing Mt Batilamu might not be as reliable as previous reviews make it seem.

Is there any group tour to the Koroyanitu national heritage park? I’m looking for a budget way instead of a private tour. Thanks.

We have 5 people, if 2 are not that athletic, can we stay in the Abaca village while the others hike for 2 hours. How much for 5 people to and from Lautoka to abaca on 4w drive plus entrance and guide?

Hi Guys, we are there for only 7 hours when our cruise ship docks on Monday 26th Dec. Do you think we have enough time to visit and if yes, what would you suggest for a family with children from 16-10yrs of age please?

Hi
I was wondering how many hours would it take to go on the Koroyanitu National Heritage Park tour from lautoka and return.
Rédigé le 2 décembre 2016
Hi my fiancé and I are coming to lautoka on a cruise for our honey moon and I really want to do one of these homes. Do you think it will be possible with a time frame of 8-5? And if so, what would you recommend the transportation be ? We really want to do some hiking while in lautoka . Thanks a bunch !
Rédigé le 18 novembre 2016
Yes with a time frame of 8am-5pm either the waterfall or summit hike is possible. You can also include the village visit+simple lunch (separate fees for each but will be reasonable if you pay directly at the park visitor centre). The drive from Lautoka to Abaca is around 1 hour or less one way. Because you are taking a cruise, would strongly recommend private transportation. Call up the carrier van operators (see the recent reviews of Koroyanitu Park for contact numbers and prices) or use private transportation companies like Althia Transfer & Tours /Selva Tours/Highland Scenic Eco Tours. Private transportation will be more expensive

Bula Peeps,
Am cruising into Lautoka on Voyager for just one day. Is it feasible to take a trip to the heritage park at 9a.m, and be back before 3? Or would I be wasting my time for such a short period?

Hi Donna-
I am sorry I can't answer your question from 8 months ago. However my fiancé and I are doing the same thing : arriving on a cruise from 8-5 and I was wondering if you were able to make this home or had any tips as we'd like to do this during our time here. Thanks!

Hi all, I wonder if it would make sense to visit Abaca village and proceed to the Mt Batilamu summit then go to the waterfall on a day trip from Lautoka? Is this feasible? How early would it be possible to enter the National Park/would it be polite to enter the village? (I don't want to knock on Ratu's door to ask permission to enter their lands when he may not be a 'morning person'!)
