Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, Chandertal Lake, also known as the "Moon Lake," is a hidden gem in the Spiti Valley of India, located at an altitude of 4,300 meters (14,100 feet). Its name is derived from its crescent shape, and the serene beauty it holds is nothing short of magical. 🌙✨.
We had a thrilling drive through treacherous mountain roads to reach this haven, where we were welcomed by the crisp mountain air and the breathtaking vista of the lake, surrounded by lush meadows, snow-capped peaks, and vibrant wildflowers.
We stayed in cozy tents and trekked through a stunning mountain trail to reach this hidden gem. Chandertal is not just a destination; it's a soul-stirring journey that connects you to nature in its purest form. If you're a nature lover and adventure seeker, make sure to add this pristine paradise to your travel bucket list.

This lake is also called as moon lake. This was the 2nd time when I have been here. As soon I reached the lake I went in flashback for a while. Truely pristine lake with Crystal clear water. The lake looks beautiful with all the landscapes around specially on a sunny day.

We reached till Kaza. Last stop before our planned destination Chandratal. But at night there were heavy rains, snowfall and landslides. All roads in all direction were closed. Finally, after waiting for two days in Kaza, we had to return back. Just missed Chandratal.

If you are on spiti tour, this is one lake you should not miss. The journey is itself a experience in its own way. The condition of roads keep changing. So you will have to speak to local drivers to know the condition when you are planning to travel. The lake is approximately 02 hours from batal. Have an early lunch at batal (cafe chacha Chachi). From batal you will reach a campsite first, and then another 15 mins to the parking area. Then a 20-30 min trek to the highest point near the lake. The periphery walk of the lake may take you 90 mins. So you should not reach the lake after 1400 hrs i.e. 2pm so you can return safely to batal/ losar. My advice is dont sleep at chandertal camping area if you haven't slept a night before at similar or higher altitude.

Virgin territory in Lahul Valley beyond Kunzum Pass ..the road ends here and you walk 20 mins to experience truly untouched nature - The Chandertal lake. Need to have expert driver to reach here and some camps about 5 kms before lake if you want to stay overnight. No stay or littering at Chandertal pls . About 93 kms from Kaza via kunzum pass.

One of the scenic lakes I have visited and after a tiring bike trail, it was a treat spending time here. Though it was summer, the snow peaked mountains nearby send a chilly breeze so be prepared with layers instead of a bulky jacket. The localities revere this lake so try not to step into water with footwear. Thankfully this place was clean and the nearest camps is located 2kms away from the lake which also helps in keeping this place clean. Carry emergency supplies with you as there are no cafe/ restaurant/ clinics/ first aid for 2 kms. Worth a visit

An absolute treat for eyes. The journey to this lake was no less than a miraculous one with all the road blocks (well almost no real road) and altitude sickness but a dip into this lake was rejuvenating. This lake is revered and the visitors were mindful to keep this place clean (thankfully). You can spend time here with family just enjoying the water and walking around the lake bearing the chilly breeze from mountains along with some sun. There is a hike from vehicle drop off from nearby camp to the lake but it is not very rough one though could be long for senior citizens. There is no clear cut pathway marked or any assistance for physically challenged to access this lake.

The moon lake also know as the Chandertal Lake is in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh.
Roads are harsh making this place less accessible for small vehicles .
You must carry warm clothes to this place if its sunny day aswel

It’s better there between may to oct . Visiting above Rohtang in winter is not advisable. From 15 th nov onward they close Rohtang pass so if someone is going above that goes on their own risk

in mountains u r never sure with every thing. luck also plays a role. Just do it. view is always clear except if it freezes. Kunjm top is the nearest spot where u can enjoy the nature.

No. you need to walk the last km to the lake. Also, you will not be able to visit in the last week of October as the place becomes inaccessible from mid October. All the tents for staying are pulled down and you will find nothing there.
