Bhimashanker is a holy place and linked with one of the Jyotirling , as per beliefs of Hindus. It attracts lot of devotees every year and specially during special festivals. You need to drive through hills and Ghats to reach this place. Drive is beautiful specially during mansoons. You get to see many beautiful view. Good place for photography lovers. Not much of facilities are available at this place . This place is away from city of Pune and famous for nature enthusiast. Many people go to this place for trekking also. There is no place to stay overnight so better you plan your visit accordingly.

A holy hindu place with God shiva idol , situated 200 kms from Mumbai,is also one of the prominent jyotirlinga.

One time visit is recommended with family mostly with parents and you can stay at MTDC resort and have good food at near by veg restaurant.

Visit during monsoon would be even better ,to enjoy scenic beauty.

Have a wonderful time with family !!!

There are at least 3 routes from Mumbai shown by Google maps to reach Bhimashankar. However, the shortest route (via Karkudi village) is the most difficult to drive on as we realized painfully. It takes one through rustic Maharashtra through scenic hills and quaint villages under the shadows of the windmills looming over hill tops. But the condition of the roads is horrible (work going on from years). Wonder why the locals do not protest against such poor infrastructure.

The superb view of the entire valley of the Bhima River and the dams over it from the hilltops made up for the bumpy ride. One can drive for miles without encountering anyone else on the road. There are several superb points for photos. While driving back we took the longer routes via Manchar and Rajgurunagar which while much longer had much better road conditions and one had to climb down only a single ghat. There was a view point at the highest point on the route where everyone gets down to take pictures of the dam below.

Apart from nature enthusiasts and trekkers, the jyotirling within the sanctuary attracts thousands of pilgrims daily and is best visited in the evening if staying over. For taking unhindered photos of the sunsets one can drive to the last village on the route located at the highest point (this is close to the Blue Mormon resort). One can actually feel the silence from the evening in the pitch black darkness.

Overall a superb break from the bustle of city life.

One of the Best place to visit as it is surrounded by Greenaries and hills and most important is that it is one of 12 Jyotirlinga..., It is almost 2.5-3 hours journey from Pune. Once you take a left from Rajgurunagar it will be around 65KM away. Please make sure that you should not plan to visit the place in evening as there will be no good hotel in this 65KM road. At Bhimashankar also there is only 2-3 resort out of which MTDC resort is famous, however it is require to make reservation earlier. we went there in Monsoon season when the beauty of the place is at its peak. I think it is the only Jyotirling where you can touch the lord shiva linga by paying for various Puja starting from Rs.501/-. Grab this opportunity for sure:) .

Went on a family trip to Bhimashankar. It's one of the 10 important jyotirlinga sites of India and has a sizable amount of religious tourists . Took the expressway route from Mumbai and exited at Talegaon and then took the NH4 and local state roads. Local roads are in pitiable condition and one can be assured of a bumpy , exhausting ride . Total journey time about 7 hours from Mumbai.
Checked in at MTDC resort about 9 km from Bhimashankar temple. New resort, rooms reasonably priced, service ok, food is vegetarian and okayish, priced a little on higher side. Being a pilgrimage centre, mostly vegetarian food is served in restuarants.
Had a few meals at nearby Neelkanth restaurant, had a wonderful Maharashtrian vegetarian thali reasonably priced at Rs100/-.Wonderful ambience with lots of interesting live birds and animals kept in artistically designed cages, will be of interest to children.
Bhimashankar temple has a huge parking issue as no infrastructure in place to handle parking of the large number of vehicles, so travel early in day to get some parking.
Places of interest, wild life safari, trekking and waterfalls , especially after the rains. Due to unseasonal rains in October, waterfalls had large flows which made it a sight to watch. However reaching there is a problem due to bad roads .
Weather was awesome, cool winds throughout the day, no need of any air-conditioning.

I have been here several times and have loved this every-time I visit. Be it a trek or a drive I have some wonderful memories. You can come here by road or can trek from the different trails that end here over single day and multi day hikes. This time we drove from Mumbai and stayed in the Blue Mormon Resort. We had a full day to explore the sanctuary, so we walked to the gupt bhimashankar trail that enters the sanctuary from behind the temple. We were lucky enough to spot shekaroo (giant malabar squirrel). If you a nature lover you should visit this place

Its the sixth jyotirling among the twelveth jyotirling in India and located in Maharashtra 119 km from the city of Pune. Its falls in Bhimashankar Wildlife Santuary. The temple opens at 5.30 am and closes at 9.30 pm. To avoid crowd morning is the best time to visit and you can also have a close darshan. The temple has bus access from Pune.
