I was a kid when the movie Border released, that movie showcased the courage of our soldiers... Their strength... holding on the entire night and fighting the enemy...
I finally visited this place... Saw those captured tanks.. the MMG and other weaponry used... Those bombs which were dropped inside Tanot Mata Mandir during the war never exploded.. the border pillar 609..
Not sure if this feeling is with everyone... I only had those famous dialogues of the movie in my mind... 😃😃
Overall... It was amazing... Must visit once...and do feel it ..
Hindustan Zindabad!! ❤️❤️

The Battle of Laungewala was one of the major decisive battles fought on the Western sector during the Indo Pak War. The memorial is situated in the heart of the Thar Desert and stands as an emotional reminder of the heroic Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pak War of 1971. It is the site where battle was fought, one can see few destroyed & abandoned enemy tanks nearby. The museum displays well-curated exhibits, chronicles of events leading up to the battle and pays tribute to the brave soldiers who defended the post. There is an audio visual show as well that display the history of the war. There is a café available at site that sells cold drinks, Maggie etc. Overall it was proud moment to visit the site, which was well protected by our brave army.

Visiting the Longewala War Memorial was a deeply moving and reflective experience. Situated in the heart of the Thar Desert, this memorial stands as a poignant reminder of the heroic Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pak War of 1971.
The museum, with its well-curated exhibits, chronicles the events leading up to the battle and pays tribute to the brave soldiers who defended the post. The personal stories, artifacts, and audio-visual presentations provide a comprehensive understanding of the sacrifices made during that crucial period.
The centerpiece of the memorial is the carefully preserved war equipment, including tanks and aircraft, creating a powerful visual impact. The vast expanse of the desert around the memorial adds to the solemn atmosphere, allowing visitors to reflect on the harsh conditions faced by the soldiers.
The Wall of Valour, inscribed with the names of those who fought bravely, evokes a sense of gratitude and respect. The well-maintained surroundings and the Indian flag flying high further enhance the patriotic ambiance.
While the journey to Longewala might be challenging due to its remote location, the historical significance and the memorial's ability to honor the sacrifices of our armed forces make it a must-visit destination for those interested in India's military history.

This place has a different vibe, it shows the courage our Indian soldiers have. They also have a good small video which shows the 1971 war details. The museum is also well made and maintained.
Roads are excellent.

Incredible experience visiting this place during our trip to Jaisalmer. You get a perspective of what our soldiers did to defend our country and continue to do each day. Few tips for first timers:
1. Try and avoid going on Sundays & public holidays as the crowds swell.
2. Go to Tanot Mata Mandir & the Border visit nearby. If you are visiting from Jaisalmer it's better to get there first and do the border trip before coming to Longewala as BSF has limited number of passes for the border visit.
3. Do take time to review the place and memorial.

Nice place for patriots like us to visit! The audiovisual show was however of very poor quality. There were few tanks ( captured from Pakistan) and military jeeps. Canteen, restaurant and a souvenir shop . All managed by BSF.

The Battle of Longewala was one of the major decisive battles fought on the Western sector during the India - Pakistan War of 1971. On the night of 04/05 Dec 1971, Pakistan forces comprising 4000 soldiers, T-59 & Sherman tanks, and a medium artillery battery attacked Longewala border post held by 23 PUNJAB. Inspite of being outnumbered, Indian soldiers gallantly held the post and requisitioned support of IAF. At the dawn of 5th Dec 1971, the Hunter aircraft based at Jaisalmer wreaked havoc on the Pakistani troops with their devastating fire power. The Hunters of 122 Squadron flew 18 sorties and destroyed 36 enemy tanks, 100 vehicles and killed 200 Pakistan soldiers in a very short span of time thwarting the advance of Pakistani army in its tracks.
Longewala War Memorial is the place of the battle of Longewala in 1971 between Pakistan and India. The super hit movie "Border" is based on the battle of Longewala. Visiting jaisalmer from jodhpur on ist Oct,planning to go directly to Sam sand dunes, next day jaisalmer sight seeing ,3rd Oct check out, should we visit longewala border and tanot mata temple,is it near Sam sand
Rédigé le 13 septembre 2022
Yes, since you are going to Sam sand dunes, then another 120kms will take you to Longewala War memorial which is at India Pakistan border. If you are coming so far then you shouldn't miss out these places. It will take you atleast 2-2.5 hrs to reach. The roads are excellent and no traffic so driving would be fun. As such there's nothing much to see in Jaiselmer except the Palaces
Rédigé le 17 septembre 2022
Do you need any special permission/approval to visit this place? Also, what are timings to visit it?

The movie show at Longewala War Memorial plays on any specific time ?
Rédigé le 14 avril 2020
It is a short 15 minutes movie. There are no specific timings that I remember. One show gets over, other one starts. Just take care that you do not make any video inside. Its strictly prohibited.

How far is d border n is d permission required
Rédigé le 5 février 2020
Yes you will require permission. Border is around 17 kms.
Rédigé le 14 avril 2020
Is it possible to take bike from jaisalmer and roam around longewala war muesum and the temple.. are the roads good enough for bike ?
Rédigé le 4 février 2020
Yes you can. Roads are great but isolated on most parts with very limited habitat around. The views of the desert are great and longewala is a secure zone so you may not be able to go beyond a certain point.Do carry proper and valid docimentation for yourself as well as your vehicle. Sicne it is a border area, you will be asked for it at check-posts.
Do tank up from Jaisalmer as you may not find many fueling stations. Also the last regognized place to eat is Ramnagar on the way (around 65 kms from Jaisalmer) do tank up youeself too. Just saying.
Enjoy the ride!

Hi, is there any place to stay in longewala?
Rédigé le 22 octobre 2019
There is no place to stay close to longewala memorial because a sea of sand streches for over 30 kms but Jaisalmer is a few 50 kms far so on the outskirts the golden city you can stay at one of the hotels. If not possible, many 3 star hotels are fit to stay.My opinion is that you should consider staying closer to the city or inside the city.
Rédigé le 28 octobre 2019
Hi, please share the taxi contact numbers to go to Longewala war museum
Rédigé le 27 septembre 2019
Taxi contact numbers are available on this site too. However, its better to hire a taxi from the hotel you are staying. Also, I would advise to cover Tanot Mata Mandir and Indo-Pak border near Tanot also. Both are worth visiting and nearby. This will also give you full utilization of the taxi that you hire.
