It was so lovely to go into the workshop and see a real human creating art. The artist stopped what he was doing and chatted to us.
We purchased a piece which we were delighted with. The artist was kind enough to write the official number of the tiger we saw and GPS coordinates of where we saw it (I screenshot Google maps during our safari) under his signature.
The art IS hand painted, however they do draw from the same photo many times.

No guessing for what is Ranthambore all about. Yes – tigers. This time we saw tigers of a different variety. Not in the jungle, but on canvas, dexterously hand painted by the students of the Ranthambore School of Art.
Ranthambore School of Art is an art school, exhibition and gallery all in a small single story house. This is off Sawai Madhopur on Ranthambore Road. While we had heard about this place, given the very little publicity they do, locals were not very aware of this place. It was per chance, while driving on the Ranthambore Road, we came across a modest signage which led to this institution of the truest sense. We walked in and saw painters sitting in front of large canvasses with menacing big cats looking back at them. It is a totally different issue that these tigers were brought to existence by these artists who were blessed with photographic precision. One could identify single strands of hair in some of these paintings.
Ranthambore School of Art is more than 20 years old. During our visit, we met Mr. Ram Sahay who is one of the founder members of this organisation. He was extremely forthcoming and shared interesting details. As with everything Ranthambore, the artwork here was geared towards wildlife. In fact, the institution was established with the aim to protect tigers. Students come here to learn as well as senior artists sit here and create paintings some of which are on sale. They showed us huge canvasses as well as small painted postcards. Given the life-like paintings, it was difficult to believe that these were results of a wood and hair brush and not any digital medium. In addition to tigers, birds and other wildlife, the artists also paint diverse subjects. We loved the painting of Jesus in all his compassionate glory. Incidentally, there was no effort on part of the art school to make a sale. This made us very comfortable.
In addition to painting, the artists from here routinely hold workshops in schools, museum and nearby villages to create awareness about the tiger.
While jungle safari is the primary activity, a visit to the Ranthambore School of Art is an offbeat activity in Ranthambore. One doesn’t need to be art aficionado to appreciate the sincere work here. We believe a good piece of work has a universal language, it breaks boundaries. Ranthambore School of Art does just that are we are humbled to have an opportunity of witnessing this first hand.

Local artists doing incredible paintings and drawings of wildlife - of course Tigers, but also all the other animals and birds you'll find in the nearby Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. Excellent value for money, and you know the money is going directly to the artists. A must for anyone visiting Sawaimadhopur.

This was an incredible art gallery in the town on the way to Rathambore National Park. The work that the local villagers do is amazing, and the techniques that they use I have never seen anywhere else in the world. A portion of the money that is made from their paintings also goes directly to the tiger reserve so is well worth dropping in on your way to see the artists at work and potentially purchase some pieces!

We were in Ranthambore for the tiger safari and had several hours free time, we wandered down the road from our hotel and stumbled on this place. In one room there were a number of artists at work. One was using a paste made from charcoal and folded newspaper to apply the paste. Another was using simple paints. The talent was immediately obvious. Some were painting without photos to copy. When we showed interest two of the artists showed us some of their finished work. The prices are more than reasonable for the amount of work and skill. We were told that 80% of the price goes to the artist and the rest goes to support the tiger reserve. We purchased a painting from one of the artists.
On returning home we googled the art school and learned that what we saw is part of a much bigger project involving teaching art skills to children to give them a way of supporting themselves in the future and also raising awareness of and supporting tiger conservation. On their Facebook page you can begin to understand the full extent of the project.

Everyone should take the time to see the hand drawn and hand painted tigers and leopards. The owner knows all the tigers in Ranthambhore Park by their name and markings. His pricing for the art is varied so there is something for everyone. All the students in the school study tuition free.

Art for Conservation is what is practiced in this School of Art. Children in the villages in and around Ranthambore are sensitized to the importance of ensuring the tiger and its habitat survive for future generations. The paintings are exquisitely done and are actually water colours, rather poster colours,on canvas!! The effect is stupendous. One can buy an original piece for a very reasonable sum of money and simultaneously promote the local economy. We were unable to sight the tiger despite two safaris , which is why I love my painting even more, for now I have the tiger in my living room,

A small yet talented bunch of artists from Ranthambore who have mastered the art of capturing the essence of Tiger to perfection. Paintings are available in different sizes, can be either water colour or charcoal. Its a wonderful place to pick up art at an affordable rate.
