The name of this temple complex is Saas Bahu as per the Archeological sign. The presence of only a few tourists make me feel that this is not very popular and that is a real shame. This is a very well maintained, beautifully preserved archeological site which should be in everyone's wish list if they are visiting Udaipur. An easy drive from Udaipur, but you need to have your own transport to reach here. Built around 10th or 11th century, these intricately decorated temples are beautiful. Set in a well maintained and lush garden, the peaceful surrounding is an added bonus. There is no entry fee but we did encounter a lot of pre-wedding photo shoot groups.

Not a huge site but oh so beautifull. The cavings outside and inside are exquisite and very well preserved. Combine with a visit of the Ekling Ji Temple nearby.

As Dirk W says in his review below, it’s a mystery why this is not in the top 3-5 things to do in Udaipur. Much better than the Jagdish Temple but perhaps it’s because it’s 20 mins outside of the city.

Others have provided the history of the place so I’ll just add to this by saying it’s been beautifully preserved, no litter or graffiti and free from tourists - just a few local girls on a school trip. The carvings are stunning despite the destruction/defacing from multiple conquerors.

It’s also situated on a lovely quiet spot off a quiet road and a very short wander from the small parking area.

Definitely worth a visit - 30 to 45 mins is sufficient.

A thousand years old, these temples were a wonderful surprise for me. Why they are attraction #51 on TA baffles me . . . I would rate them in the top 3 of things to visit in Udaipur. The site is well maintained, there's no admission fee and there were no tourists. The interiors, especially the columns, and the porches are lavishly decorated with hundreds of carved figures, some erotic.
Combine a visit with a stop at the Eklingi Temple on the way back to Udaipur.

Beautiful architecture! Never knew about this place, it’s not that popular but has a distinct vibe to it. People call it Saas Bahu temple as pronouncing the complete word was difficult for many, hence the derivation of its name. There is no entry price, it’s free for all. You can spend 30-60 minutes easily admiring the architecture of this place. It’s on the Nathdwara highway but it just takes half an hour drive from the Udaipur city centre.
However there should be more information given about its history.

Please Must Know - In today's time, There is not a single idol of God in sanctum's of in this group of Temples, which is worshiped , which were broken , demolished or ruined in the older time frame. No worship takes place in this temple

Today this temple is in ruins. However, the walls of the temple and the artefacts built on it still display its grandeur. The temple is built on a high platform, to which there is a Makartoran gate in the east for the entrance. The temple is built in the attractive Panchayatan architectural style.

Ticket - Free for all
Must have - proper hat/cap or umbrella, easy wear footwear, water bottle
Must know - parking space available ,21-22 kilometres from Udaipur city, via private vehicle or hire taxi etc, easy option to reach here.

This temple is about 1100 years old. The group of Temples is known for its developed style and exquisite ornamentation architecture.

The name of this temple is" Sahastrabahu Temple ". By the way, this temple is also known by the name of " Saas-Bahu Temple ". It is said that the Mewar dynasty was once established nearby, whose capital was Nagda. It is said that this temple reminds of the splendor of the Mewar dynasty.

Lord Vishnu was first established in this temple. This is the reason why this temple was named "Sahastrabahu". "Sahastrabahu" means temple of the 'Thousand-Armed' God. It is said that "Sahastrabahu Temple" became famous as "Saas-Bahu Temple" due to people not being able to pronounce it correctly.

The Sahastra Bahu temples or Sasbahu Temples, at Nagda, Rajasthan, are a pair of late 10th-century Hindu temples dedicated to Vishnu. My wife and I are touring on our 3 week luxury tour of India. They have brought us to this rural, archaeological site. It is a rare tourist attraction that has a constructed parking area and a protective entry gate, but no entrance fees. We were the only foreign visitors at that moment, but another small group included Indian newlyweds who were on an outing in traditional clothes. There are loads of intricate stone carvings to view, some a little risque on close inspection. The two main temples are in varying condition but still represent the Hindu religious experience of the 10th century. A visit here is enlightening as well as entertaining and is highly recommended.

The Sahastra Bahu Temples are some of the best preserved pieces of temple-architecture I've ever seen. They are not functioning Hindu temples, but those that have been preserved for historical significance. The level of detail in the carvings are astonishing. The entire temple is made of unpolished marble and was constructed using an interlocking system. The site has been taken over by the Archaeological Survey of India and it shows as it's been very well maintained. I highly recommend a visit to this site

This site shows the true historical essence of Indian culture. The intricacies of the ruins are rendered us speechless. This marvelous site can be accessed on the way to jaipur from udaipur or vice versa. Honestly I enjoyed the architecture of these ruins more than the city palace ( my unbiased opinion).

This is ruin of Lord Vishnu Temple, its very old & dates back to 10th century,It was destroyed by the invaders & reconstructed by the Maharanas of Mewar ,but this temple could not be recreated..There is no Idol,no worshipping happens here yet it attracts countless tourists & pilgrims. Its beauty will attract you for hours if you have eyes for the art & architecture. Its simply marvels like all other temples I visited in Mewar this too says the same story, single piece stones used with intricate carvings & sculpting of figures..Besides there was a strange peace you will realize at this place ,do not skip this from your Itinery,Highly recommended.
PS: Its some 20km from Udaipur,No entry fee
