I visited this church when I went to Landour. It is quite a huge church. I could find nobody in the church. It was empty. I went threre during the evenings. One can also find monkeys near the church. So anyone travelling with kids should be a little careful.

St Pauls church is 20 minutes drive on steep narrow road. Avoid driving in case you are not confident instead hire driver or cab. Church is very old near famous
Chaar Dukaan of Landour. Probably, first church to allow carry rifles inside by British soldiers. Photography is not allowed inside. A beautiful stained glass image over the Altar of The Christ can be seen inside. Parking is available just outside.

This Anglican church was built in 1839 and first consecrated on 1 May 1840, by Bishop Daniel Wilson of Calcutta. It was built primarily as garrison church used mainly by the troops based at the Landour convalescent depot. Till May 2003, the church had six pews which had slots for supporting rifles which would have been carried into the church by soldiers. This was a precaution taken after the mutiny of 1857 when some unarmed British Soldiers were attacked in Meerut. Christopher and Mary Corbett parents of Jim Corbett were married here. Christopher served as a postmaster in Mussoorie.

St. Paul's Church is right in the middle of chaar dukaan. It's an old British era church with a nice shady ground, good to relax in. Provided the monkeys don't bother you. The church itself is quite nice with stained glass windows. The unique feature are the notches in the pews, to accommodate rifles. In the mutiny, British rifles would get stolen from outside the church, so the rules were changed and you were allowed to bring your rifles inside.

If we are to find evidence of the Western Religion in India in the form of its Churches, then the Hill Station’s will be the obvious place to look. It was here in the ‘Hill Station’ as the British referred to those locations that we will indeed find Churches of various denominations and with it Cemeteries. It was post 1825 that these churches were built. This St Paul’s standing on the very corner of the Left or Right route around Landour. The buttress along the side and the wooden architect inside speaks of a repeat of what we would find in areas of the UK today. A beautiful stained glass image over the Altar of The Christ . No photos inside otherwise still possible to capture the beautiful interior. Well worth a visit.

This is the first church where soldiers were allowed to carry the rifles inside to avoid them getting stolen. The benches having notched pews to rest the rifle during worship. The church is surrounded by tall pine/ deodar trees and looks absolutely beautiful. Photography is not allowed inside the church.

Situated next to Char Dukaan, you will anyway come across it . There is nothing special about this church . Just a a normal church . Since its next to Char Dukaan , from where we started our entire tour of Landour, we clicked a few pictures on the steps.

The day we visited it was a wedding had just taken place in the church as such it was well decorated. A beautiful and well maintained church.
Lot of information about our brave soldiers who lost their lives at a very young age.
A nice visitors diary is also maintained there.
There is a stock of candles kept there which you can light if you wish to by paying a nominal amount. Which is really good.
Calm & Serene place to visit. Must visit.
