Area is closed for vehicles, only rickshaws are available for movement or go walking. Lots of different shops and eateries in the area. But product costs are high in the area, like any type of mementos are cheaper at Company garden or Landor. Its best to visit to go strolling in the evening.

A 2 km long strech full of good food and shopping.

A lot of highs and lows - people with kids and elderly might face trouble. The mall starts with some local shopping and extends till good value money brands. The weather will always surprise you.

As his fans know, Shah makes his ratings on a relative basis and not an absolute one. At one level, Mussoorie is physically a very lovely place, situated at an elevation of 6,000 feet and blessed with hills and valleys in all directions. The forests all around are just spectacular and one can spend many hours just feeding the eyes with some of the beautiful sights. And the twinkling lights of the towns in the Doon valley seen from above at night are mesmerizing.

The problems that beset Mussoorie, and which really tarnish this place, are all human-made. The “hill stations” in India generally have a central road, usually on a ridge, with shops, eateries and all sorts of other establishments. The colourful and bustling atmosphere of this so-call “mall” is also a major attraction for visiting a hill station because for many people, it is the place to be.

And this is where Mussoorie fails miserably. Whereas most places cordon off the mall so that it is only for pedestrians, the one in Mussoorie allows cars and motorcycles to freely enter this area except for a very small section. As a result, you end up having to dodge a lot of very rude drivers who pass by you with mere millimeters to spare, spewing their noxious fumes right at you. To put it simply, what should be a pleasurable stroll in a pollution-free, noise-free, stress-free area becomes just the opposite.

There is of course an easy solution to this but for whatever reason, the town has opted to ruin the mall and therefore Mussoorie is a far less pleasant place to visit than some of the other fabled hill stations, such as Shimla and Darjeeling, where the entire mall is only a pedestrian zone.

Mussoorie also has geographic proximity to Delhi, which means that gobs of people just fill up the place, and unfortunately a lot of them are just socially undesirable. Throngs of young men seem to just descend on this place and with it bring their behaviours that don’t lend to what a peaceful vacation spot should be.

And as with so many places in India, there is just garbage everywhere. It boggles the mind how people can just freely pollute a country they profess to love, a situation that is further aggravated by poor municipal management.

Shah says: Both the state and town governments really need to shape up if they want to maintain Mussoorie as the jewel it once was and restore its status as the “Queen of the Hills”.

Shah’s tip: If you are visiting India and wish to see a really nice hill station, then Mussoorie will not only disappoint but leave you with the mistaken impression that all other such places are just like this. If you are coming into Delhi, consider going to Chandigarh and then on to Shimla. But if you really want to see truly pristine and just amazing nature and beauty, then head to Sikkim. You can even fly now from Delhi to Pakyong, just an hour outside Gangtok.

Mussoorie from the Mall to Char Dukan should be made car free. It is impossible to enjoy the walk due to the endless cars and honking. Too little is done to control this. Cars ply up Kulti Bazaar and Mullingar Hill constantly. It is unsafe for pedestrians.

I found this place highly overrated as the products sold on footpath stalls are also costly. I found two of the vendor's behaviour bad and derogatory for the tourists. However, it can't be generalized. But it has old place vibe which is worth watching. You can see a view of dehradun city from the Mall road.

The mall road is a disaster. Mussorie being such a beautiful hill station with amazing weather , the entire experience gets spoiled when walking on the mall road. Traffic on both sides, construction on the road, overcrowded and too many unnecessary shops. Coming from Mumbai, we expected better

Here is why i titled the review like that.

The whole mall road is currently dug up for never-ending repairs, there is no place to walk on the roads. Right now is a terrible time to be in Mussoorie. Look at the attached photos to get an authentic view of the mall road's condition.

No hotel or travel site will tell you this (quite obvious ain't it).
The local authority still charges every private car entering mall road INR 150 as tax, but will still not inform you that the road is destroyed, utterly undrivable. Public parking places too will charge you through the nose, but will not care to inform you that right now is not a good time to visit this city.

Of course, the weather is nice, you can feel the difference as you climb up from Dehradun. If you are on a day trip, it's perhaps okay, but if you are planning a stay, stay away or book someplace away from the mall where you have enough within the resort to make your stay comfortable.

The Mall is the main attraction in Mussoorie. Shops, Brand Showrooms, Hotels, Restaurants, Games Parlours, Resorts, etc. everything is there to enjoy the holidays. Unfortunately when we were here, big scale repair work was going on, adding closure of The Mall partially. We were not able to enjoy and cover the full length of The Mall, as we were expecting. The repair work should be complete by April end. So plan holidays at Mussoorie after checking with local contacts there.
