I visited this place on my hiking trip to George Everest peak last week. It was an amazing experience. The observertory lies on the way to the peak. The place is really awesome. Thick forests in all sides. The house is extremely well maintained. There is a food court outside. One can have a nice leisure walk to the Everest peak which is around an hour's walk from here. Those visiting mussoorie should make it a point to visit this place. It's hardly half an hour's drive from the city.

The museum is informative for children. The steep walk up to the house is little tough but exciting. The view and atmosphere at the top are great!

Believe me friends this is one of the most beautiful place to visit in Mussorie. The place has a parking space which cost u round about 100 Rupees and the entry fee to the camp is 200 rupees for per person. U can also go to the peak in your own vehicle but u to had pay extra 1000 for taking your vehicle to the top. In case u don’t want to take your own vehicle then there is a vehicle service who charge u 100 rupees per person for taking u on the peak but they will drop u in return also till 7:00 pm only. The return track is just 1.5 kilometres and I must suggest to return by walking because before 7 u can never view the sunset which is the most important part of the visit. When u reach on the peak u will find the mesmerising beauty and breathtaking views of Mussorie from a 360 degree angle. At the peak there is also the house library of Sir George Everest who was British surveyor and geographer who served as Surveyor General of India from 1830 to 1843. This place must be visited by every tourist. On the peak u can also enjoy Maggie Momos and tea coffee with lots of other things offered by the locals.

Be prepared for a 1.5 km uphill walk on a paved road. It's advisable to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as there are no shops along the way. At the top, the view is magnificent, offering a mesmerizing panoramic view of the surroundings.
Upon reaching the summit, you'll find a museum and 2-3 small shops selling Maggi and paranthas. In clear weather, the surrounding vistas are truly breathtaking, making the effort to climb worthwhile.

The George Everest House, located in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, India, is a historical site that was once the residence of Sir George Everest. Sir George Everest was the Surveyor General of India in the 19th century and played a significant role in the Great Trigonometric Survey of India, which helped establish the height of the world's highest mountain, Mount Everest, named in his honor. From the to of the George Everest peak the view of Himalaya is awesome.

We didn’t find the house the remains of which no longer exist we were told but we enjoyed the museum of cartography recently opened to commemorate Everest’s work as Survey General and others. The walk up from the car park is challenging but very beautiful. The view from the top looking north is great but to the south you see nothing due to pollution.

From the parking lot, you start walking up a steep but paved trail to reach the Everest House. From this point on, you walk up further (giant steps at times and also a gravel trail) for about 40mnts.to reach the summit. This is an exhausting walk up and is not for everyone. Be prepared. Take water and hiking shoes is a must(I saw people with their flip flops!). Enjoy the 360 degree views of the distant mountains and of course, fresh breeze. Again, this walk is only for a determined visitor and is demanding. We were told that there are electric vehicles that can take you to the house. But we did not see one. Good Luck and have fun!

Superb place. There is a climb of 1.5kms. Electric vehicle is available to go up. You can take your car too, at a fee of 500. Walking is advised. The top is a nice picnic spot. From there you can go all the way to the top of a hill from where you get amazing views.

Sir George really had the privileged life and luxury to stay at such beautiful location. There is a hike of around 1 to 1.5km from base. The road is perfect motorable, but it's closed for tourist vehicles. We have to walk.upto the house. There is everest base camp cafe too for eating and hangout. We can Camp too there. Lot of maggi and momos eating place..the last stretch to the top is little adventurous and rewards with some amazing views. We get to see the winter line!! The only one of two place in this world

Hi, how much is the cost of cab from Mussoorie Mall Road to George Everest's House? Thank you.
Rédigé le 26 octobre 2020
i am planning to visit mussoorie on 20,21,22november .what sort of weather it wd be? can we expect snow in or around mussoorie at that time??
Rédigé le 20 juillet 2017
The weather would be pleasant but no snow in or around Mussoorie. It start snowing in Dhanaulti (35 km) from Mussoorie in late December. However, it would be very cold in the morning and evening, around 5°-10°C. Days are generally pleasant and lite warm clothes are required.
Rédigé le 20 juillet 2017
Its great to visit Mussoorie in any season. However, you would experience rain during July. Try to stay on the mall road only. Everything is accessible from the mall. If you are staying anywhere else, you may get stuck during heavy rain.

I m staying at mall road, how should I reach to, George Everest's house?
Rédigé le 25 août 2016
There is a cab stand on the Mall Road _Liberary side where you can take a taxi with a pre-fixed rate and itenary. Also when you go to the George Everest House I do recommend you stop at Cloud's End, possibly for a lunch since they have a cover charge for entry which gets set off against meal. The trek from the Clouds End to Echo Point and Sunset points are worth the trip, while the lunch is fairly average fare.

Hi, I was planning to go on this trek. Would want to know the following:
1. Best way to reach the trek location (Lal Tibba) from Rishikesh. (Bus, cab, etc.)
2. What is the best time to finish this trek and reach George Everest.
3. Is April a good time for the trek?
TIA
Rédigé le 26 mars 2016
From Rishikesh, there are buses that go till Mussorie - picture palace stand.
From there take a local cab to Lal Tibba. There are few places to stay around so that you start your trek early morning next day.
April beginning is good time, weather lot better than Dehi :-)
Start early morning and take route of camels back road and not via mussoorie mall road.
Once you reach there try climbing a small peak at George Everest.... Its steep but worth it.
Ensue to start back around 4 pm so that you reach mall road by evening and before it gets dark.
FYI- night time at that place is best but need to be in group.... No place to stay... You can camp.
