Pandai Sikek street at Padang Panjang city is famous with Minang Woven, hand made and manual machine embroidery. We visited one of the old time and famous Minang Woven maker which call “Pusako”. Stepping into the traditional gadang house with unique architecture and decoration is already something different. They will show you selection of good quality hand made Minang woven, and will not be able to breath because of its beauty. The price of traditional Minang woven (songket) starts from IDR 2,000,000 (USD 200) and up depending on the difficulties level of the work. Each songket will take minimum of 2 months time to finish.
Even if you are not buying, it is a good knowledge to understand the process.
You also may visit many art shop in the neigbourhood who produced embroidery scarf, bags, pouch, shoes, clothes and many more.

Inilah tempat terbaik untuk mengetahui budaya tenun terbaik dan ukiran terbaik di Minangkabau. Pandai Sikek kampung kecil yang mempunyai warisan budaya ukir dan tenun dengan kualitas sangat mempesona. tempat yang harus di kunjungi wisatawan yang menyukai kedua unsur budaya urang awak. Pemandangan ke Gunung Merapi dan Gunung Singgalang dari kampung ini juga menjadi daya tarik yang luar biasa indah.

Our tour itinerary made a stop here to see the traditional fabric maker.
But we enthusiastically went to the rice fields at the back. The views were so peaceful and we saw rumah bagonjong or traditional houses at the hills nearby.

Berada di kaki Gunung Singgalang dan Gunung Merapi, nagari ini menjadi nagari sejuk nan subur. Banyak perkebunan sayur-sayuran di sekitar nagari ini. Namun, nagari ini terkenal bukan karena tanahnya yang subur tersebut, namun karena masyarakatnya yang sebagian besar sebagai pengrajin songket khas Minangkabau. Berbagai macam motif songket dapat ditemui di sini, dengan beragam harga pula. Tidak susah untuk bisa sampai ke sini, bisa di jangkau dengan bus/travel Padang-Bukittinggi, dan minta turunlah di simpang Pandai Sikek, tinggal lanjutkan dengan jalan kaki saja.

a suburban place called Pandai Sikek or they call it as "gold cloth of Sumatra". It is a small town in Bukittinggi consists of small villages where you can find cotton or silk fabric and the main fabric attraction here is of course, the handmade Songket. You can also find woodwork carving for those who are into arts and crafts.

we moesten even de weg vragen om in Pandai Sikek te geraken. Mooie omgeving. In het dorp is een winkel waar je geweven stukken kan kopen, naar verluid afkomstig van Java. We vroegen waar er geweven wordt en de winkeleigenaar toonde ons een huis in een zijstraat. De vrouw moest nog aan haar dagtaak beginnen, het is de moeite waard om het geheel te zien. Geen fooi, wel een kleinigheid kopen (oploskoffie, zakje waspoeder, ...)

A must visit place if you come here.. Pandai Sikek is the most popular with its hand made Songket. If you visit Kampung Pandai Sikek, do not forget to stop by & survey at `Satu Karya'. You can bargain cheapest price in here.

Tempat yang indah dan udaranya sejuk. Penduduk sekitarnya kebanyakan adalah petani sayur dan pengrajin songket. Masih banyak rumah asli atau rumah gadangnya.

Pandai Sikek is a pleasant village outside Bukittinggi known for its songket fabric and woodworking shops. Songket is a fabric made with gold thread (or, more likely, gold-colored thread. Real gold songket is very expensive.) There are several interesting workshops where you are welcome to watch the weavers at work. There are also a number of woodcarving shops where Minangkabau artists create the woodcarvings you see on traditional Minangkabau buildings. The town is also worth a stroll, as it has nice rural scenery and a very nice traditional Rumah Adat (village meeting house).

This village is well known for the weaving skills passed down the generations for mother to daughter. They use cotton, silk or mixed fabric, woven with silver or gold threads.
The design can be very complicated and elaborate. A piece of silk cloth (1 sarong piece and 1 shawl) with complex weaving of gold threads covering almost all surface can cost around USD 1,000+ (it took around 9 mths to complete). The cotton, simpler weaving costs around USD 150. You can (and should) bargain.
We found the Satu Karya store (a little off the main road) sells the best songket at the best price. They can also take you to see the weaving process at a house nearby.
You can also find table clothes and moslem clothing articles (mukena, kerudung / hijab), peci, etc.
