In the morning, I took a walk around the hotel. The market, which I thought was closed, was open. I had read somewhere that it was closed on Wednesdays... However, I wasn't very hungry, so I gave up on having breakfast at the restaurant. It also seemed like they could send me a puffer fish sashimi set, but it didn't seem like it was in season, so I just looked around and left.

Another interesting fish market in Japan, and the specialty of this fish market is blowfish, fugu in Japanese. There were blowfish artifacts scattered around the market for visitors to take pictures. There were a number of restaurants located on the second level of the complex and a great number of sushi stalls located at level one. Prices were all very wallet-friendly.

Were most of the shops closed? Or had they closed down?
And the main seafood section had been cleared away, with only boxes piled up.
I went there hoping to have lunch, but the sushi and other stores were either closed or closed?
All there was was dried goods.
So, there was a long line at the restaurant on the second floor, so I decided to go to a different restaurant.
I didn't get to see Karato Market in its original form.
It was disappointing this time, as I had enjoyed it last time!

Visited around 10:30 on Friday.
We waited in line for about 15 minutes to get into the parking lot, but we also waited in a long line at the market to get blowfish soup and crab soup.
The sweet miso leaves a lasting impression.
When it comes to seafood bowls, try your favorite seafood bowl at each restaurant! I'm a fan of yellowtail and sea urchin. I'm surprised at the high quality for only 1,000 yen!
I've eaten blowfish and kaiseki, but the seafood bowl at this market is by far the best. He was outstanding.

We went there early on a Sunday morning, but it was already full. There was sushi everywhere.
They also had crab soup and fried fish. The price was reasonable. There was a wide variety.
It was hard to find places to sit, so everyone had to stand up to eat.
We soon found a place to sit, and went shopping and ate there again.
The second time we went, the number of people had doubled, which surprised me.

Once a year we visit this place. It takes a few hours to drive from where we live to Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture but we look forward to eating good quality sushi ,sashimi and other newly cooked dishes, There are lots of sashimi , seafood stalls and other foods in the market. It is fun to see people lining-up to buy thier choice of sushi and the some people enjoying their food while viewing the bay.

To get to Karato market, you need to use the fery service from Mojiko, not far, about 10 minute across it, you can enjoy the bay view from the ferry...

A short walk from jetty to the market, you can see lot of shop on the way. The atmosphere here is great, and you can spent quality time with your friend or family , checking out the food they offer here.

Don't expect 1st class food quality, but all is decently prepare and very wide range of seafood that everyone can enjoy.... not just seafood, various kind of food is also being sold, so everyone can enjoy their favourite meal.... beside the price is very fair and reasonable if being compare else where...so why not ?

Karato Market is right in front of you if you cross the Kanmon Straits by boat from Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu.
This time, I went by car through the Kanmon Tunnel, but there was a traffic jam at the market's parking lot. If you're going to Magan Street, I recommend checking the opening hours before going.
Be careful during the Obon holidays.

I went on a Monday around lunchtime. I knew it would be busy, but since it's a market, the morning activity had died down and most of the stores were closed.
But I was able to experience the atmosphere of a seafood market, and saw signs for "fugu," a luxury fish that represents Shimonoseki, here and there.
However, this is also a "tourist market," so I wish they'd taken that into consideration when operating the store.

Usually when everyone goes to Fukuoka, they go to Mojiko and Shimonoseki. From Mojiko, you can go to Shimonoseki through the undersea pedestrian tunnel and you can visit two prefectures at once🤣. Go slowly to Shimonoseki, pass by Akama Shrine and then go to Karato Market.

If you like to eat fish and seafood, you must go to Tanghu Market😎, the noodles are big enough and there are many shops. I always buy whatever I see🤣. Large scallops are about 500 yen per skewer, and sushi is 1,500 yen🖖🏻. But if you want to go out and sit by the waterfront, please consider it if you have a mysophobia.
