Spread over 360,000 m2. Built by two Delhi Sultanate dynasties, Sayyid’s and Lodi’s in the 15th and 16th centuries. Later it was landscaped in 1936 by Lady Willington, wife of Marquees of Willington, Governor-General of India during the British rule. The original name of Lodhi Garden was Lady Willington Park which later renamed as Lodi Garden after Indian Independence in 1947.
Athpula Bridge (8 Pier Bridge)
A stone bridge with 8 arches built during the 16th century. The bridge has 7 arches, supported by 8 piers and stands over the remains of what was once a tributary of the Yamuna River was built by Nawab Bahadur, who was a nobleman in the court of Akbar the great.
Tomb of Sikandar Lodi
Sultan of Delhi sultanate (1489-1517), he was the second son of Sultan Bahlul Lodi, an Afghan ruler of Lodhi Sultanate. He was also a poet of the Persian language and prepared a diwan of 9000 verses. Similar to Mohammed Shah's tomb, though without the chhatris, it was built by his son Ibrahim Lodi in 1517, the last Sultan of Delhi from Lodi dynasty. The tomb was renovated by the British and an inscription mentioning Ibrahim Lodi's defeat at the hands of Babur.
A Three Domed Mosque
Built in 1494 during the reign of Sikandar Lodi, there is also a residence surrounded with a central courtyard, where the remains of a water tank can be seen. Characterized by a relatively simple five bay prayer hall of the building adjacent to a open courtyard, this type was an important precedent for mosqu e architecture in the Lodi and Mughal eras.
Sheesh Gumbad
Glass Dome is opposite the Bara Gumbad is the Sheesh Gumbad known for the glazed tiles used in its construction. Built during the reign of Sikander Lodi, it contains the remains of an unknown family.
Bara Gumbad
Big Dome was built in 1494 during the reign of Sikander Lodi. It consists of a large rubble-construct dome, this building which is believed to be a gateway because of the absence of any grave, dates back to the Lodi Dynasty.
Mosque
Very close to the herbal garden, 18th-century Mosque was built by the Mughals. Recently restored
Turret
Adjacent to Gate no. 3 is perhaps the oldest structure in this ensemble of tombs and mosques. This 6 m high turret was probably the corner tower of an enclosure constructed of random rubble masonry; it has 2 levels with a small room at the lower level and the Jharokha (Balcony) opening at the upper level and the ribbed dome.
Tomb of Mohammed Shah (1434–1445)
The third monarch of the Sayyid dynasty which ruled the Delhi Sultanate. He succeeded his uncle, Mubarak Shah to the throne. Both Muhammad Shah and his son, Alam Shah who succeeded him, were supplanted by the Lodi dynasty. The tomb was built by Aladdin Alam Shah as a tribute to Mohammed Shah .The cenotaph of Muhammed Shah surrounded by several other graves.
