The Hauz Khas complex is synonymous with Hauz Khas District Park, Hauz Khas Village, and (to some people) even the Deer Park. The complex is centred around (and named for) the ‘Hauz Khas’, or ‘royal water tank’, a huge artificial lake that was originally excavated in the 13th century CE by the Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khalji to provide water for the new city he built at Siri. In the 14th century, Firuz Shah Tughlaq constructed a massive madarsa (school of higher education) around the hauz, and also built his own tomb in the midst of the madarsa buildings.
Today, the hauz and its surrounding park (which is also connected to the large deer park next door) are great for walks, and for exploring nature. The hauz attracts some migratory birds in the spring, and even otherwise, because there’s lots of greenery here, you can see everything from barbets to hornbills, parakeets and peafowl here. Entry to the Hauz Khas monuments (the madarsa, Firuz Shah’s tomb, and the ancillary buildings) used to be possible through stairs connecting to the banks of the hauz, but these have been closed off, and you can now enter the historical complex only through the main gate, which lies at the end of Hauz Khas Village.
Hauz Khas Village is the dining/entertainment/shopping hub of this area: it is laid out on both sides of the road leading past Deer Park and to the madarsa complex. There are dozens of restaurants, boutiques, cafés, homestays and more here, and it’s quite hip and happening all through the day and late into the night.

Hauz Khas is a name that means Royal (Water) Tank, with an extant water tank from the 13th century. It developed during the Tughlaq dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. Today, it contains the ruins of a Madrassa and several Tombs of the aforementioned dynasty. Most of the ruins are in good condition, especially the Tomb of Feruz Shah. The complex is worth a visit, especially if you combine it with the trendy Hauz Khas Village.

Highly recommend❤
I visited this Hauz Khas Fort South Delhi in recently in February 2023. It is in the care of Archeological Survey of India ASI . Entry fee is Rs 25 for Indians for the fort .
The fort is majestic and covers a huge area of green land, water tank . Inside the site there is many old structures like masjids, madrasas, tombs etc but many of them are in dilapidated condition.
The site is in among those sites which the public are interested to see in the context of architecture and history.
I Suggest the ASI should take special care of this monument as well as the water tank ,there needs urgent renovation and beautification work in the fort so that the remaining part of this important monument can be preserved for future generations. . Thank you

We happened to have lunch at Hauz Khas Social restaurant from where we saw a nice lake and ruins of old monuments. That's how we discovered this historical site. The complex consists of tombs and other monuments built by rulers of the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th/14th centuries. It is a vast complex and very well laid out where one can spend quality time looking at the remains of the monuments built during the Khilji and Tughlaq dynasties. Overall, a beautiful and enjoyable experience that attracts a lot of visitors, including foreigners.

This complex consists of a number of beautiful buildings built by the emperor's of the tughlaq and other dynasties in Delhi around 13th century, along with the lake that gives hauz khas its name.
It's located at the end of hauz khas village. Entry is rupees 20 but one has to pay online using the ASI website, by scanning the QR code. No cash is accepted so be prepared for that.
The madarsa consists of a number of buildings, cells for students, running of a mosque and so on, in beautiful info Islamic architecture. It's spread over multiple floors, reachable by stairs.
There is also tomb of the empire firoz shah tughlaq. The tomb is nicely decorated with inscriptions and largely intact.
It's a nice place to visit with friends and learn some of the history of Delhi.

For years we have been visiting the Hauz Khas complex, typically having lunch at our favourite restaurant and then taking a stroll through the old buildings and by the water. Earlier this year we were surprised to see that it's now no longer free entry and when we were there most recently, we stopped to see what they were charging and were shocked that foreigners now have to pay 300 rupees to go in (I think it's 25 for locals). Honestly, there are much more impressive attractions in Delhi and elsewhere that don't cost that much.
I guess that ticketing will stop it being such a hit with young courting couples who could be found cuddling in secluded corners, but it makes a visit expensive if you've not only got to pay to get out to HK village but then cough up this entry fee.
An announcement in the Times of India in Jan 2019 said the fees would be 15 rupees for locals and 200 for foreigners so they've already increased those charges in less than a year. Take care and try to find out the costs before you visit.
If I'd never been before I *might* pay once but sadly I won't bother going again. I really think that they've set the price too high for what there is to see. I would pay 100 without quibbling especially if they are really going to provide more facilities inside the park, but for now, I'm voting with my feet and going elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the only day we had to tour was Monday, but Hauz Khas was closed. There was not much to see from the gate.
