As the Lord Buddha said,God loves all without discrimination of color , caste , creed or religion. At this temple the children who attend the kindergarten come from all religions. Truly the seed of eguality and unconditional love and acceptance has taken root at this humble Japanese temple of Nichiren Sect. Do talk with Morita San, the humble and gracious priest, residing here for over 40 years, ,who has dedicated his life to uphold the principles of humanity which we need to be reminded of again and again ,specially in these tumultous times. Do sit in front of the most tranquil gaze of the white marble statue and let the tension exude from your tired soul and feel peace. ((Please recheck visiting times. Visitors are welcomed mornings and evenings after 4 pm only))

Had visited this Buddhist temple in Worli a long back ago. This Buddhist temple is located in a predominantly Buddhist area and is lesser known to tourists.

This Buddhist temple was built in 1956 and is the oldest Buddhist temple in Mumbai. The entrance of this temple has a religious spire and has a Japanese inscription. Before entering the temple, footwear should be removed. It's interior is adorned with paintings depicting the life of Buddha. There is an altar housing many small Buddha statues. Near it, is a small place where the monk sits and recites the prayers. There is a 6 and a half Buddha statue as well as a large drum brought from Japan. Many local devotees sit and meditate at this temple. It's so calm, serene and peaceful inside. There is nothing behind the temple except for rooms where the monk resides. However, this temple is forgotten and is visited by local devotees.

This Buddhist temple is an ideal place of worship for local devotees as well as people from other faith.

The USP is the calm that engulfs u as u walk inside this place..although its located bang on the main road, as u walk inside, the mad rush outside seems far away an all u feel is the serenity of this place..

soak in the architecture style as also the beautiful decoration around the Buddha

i think its less well known and hence we were the only ones there..also, its closed from 12:30pm to 3:30pm..

we were here at 5pm and if u can time it right try going by 6pm when the prayers are on (we missed it but must be magical with the chanting and the drum beating)

leave ur footwear on the stand near the gate (the sign on the footsteps to the temple tell u so)..

I have driven past Nipponzan Myohoji temple a million times in my life. I only got a chance to visit very recently. The temple is a Buddhist temple, serene and white and quiet in the middle of Worli Naka, a very busy part of town, a junction with it isconstruction and sea link traffic merging close by. The temple has a sense of history, it is apparently made by the Birla family and also has a Mahatma Gandhi connection (apparently the Japanese teacher met Gandhi here). The temple is a wonderful addition to the Mumbai architecture scene.

The only Buddha Vihar(temple) in this emotionally charged 24x7 on the move city called Mumbai, in Maharashtra state of INDIA. This Japanese temple has stood its ground since 1956, situated in Worli. Two features attract passerby. 1.The sound of Japanese Drums beating synchronised with chants of NAM-MYO-HO-RENGEY-KYO, during their prayer hours twice a day(pl. check for time) . 2. The statue Gautam Buddha. A white marble ,sitting posture Buddha, still, calm, meditative. On stepping in, during the prayer times, one will experience the feeling of being awakened to yourself , feel the connection to the present moment. Just be still. Be there. The temple is in the heart of city, also very well connected by public transport BEST buses, and trains too( nearest railway stn being DADAR, if coming from western suburb of mumbai). One can then go to the famous Worli seaface side, overlooking the vast expanse of Arabian Sea, still feeling the drum beats blend with sounds of waves....again...your connection with this universe.

Niponzan Myohoji is a Japanese Buddhist order temple in Worli. The temple was built in 1956.
The temple has been painted white now but I remember it's classic Japanese stone look many years ago which looked better.

This is a Japanese Buddhist temple located in Worli. There are prayers every morning and evening (at 5.30 pm). It is defined by the stupa-like external structure. From the inside, as it is made of white marble with a statue in the main shrine, it is not very different from a Jain temple.

Practical tips -
1) The location pin on Google Maps is wrong. It takes you to the Japanese cemetery and not to this temple.
2) The temple is located opposite Poddar Hospital, on Worli Naka, next to the red light. If you are looking out for it, you won't miss it.
