I booked this excursion for White Water Rafting not knowing how dangerous it was. I envisioned us on a large round raft with 10 people. The guide picked us and one other person up. It was four of us total on a raft shaped like a canoe.
Guide prepared us for all the possibilities that we could face and did an excellent job educating us.
It was November 2024 the week before tourist season. They had received lots of rain too.
We had no idea of the dangers of rafting there. Our raft flipped 30 minutes into our 2 hr ride and we almost drowned. It was very scary and the current was vicious and water was freezing. I don't recommend it at all. I still have panic attacks when I think of how dangerous our adventure was.
Google it and you'll see the death toll on this river.
By God's grace, we made it out alive.

We took a white water rafting trip with Pozo Azul Adventures on Class II/II rapids - rough enough to be quite a thrilling ride. You don't just get a bit wet on this ride, you get completely soaked. This was only my second time white water rafting and I was quite glad it wasn't my first attempt. The trip was great fun and health and safety was taken very seriously. It felt exciting - and thrilling - but not really dangerous.

Carlos was our guide, he was such a positive person and we had a blast. He was a wonderful teacher. It was a beautiful day, the river was gorgeous and clear. Highly recommended, go with Carlos

We took a boat tour of the Sarapiqui river to Black Wood farm and my parents really enjoyed it! The perfect travel experience for anyone who can't hike through the rainforest.

Fantastisk område med et rigt fugleliv. Perfekt til trekking i regnskoven. Jeg vil anbefale at benytte en lokal guide - evt. fra hotellet. Vi ville ikke ha’ set halvdelen uden en guide.

This was a last stop on a day long tour. The river was gentle and a bit shallow when I visited in March. We saw lots of animal life including howler monkeys, bats, lizards, caimans and of course many species of waterfowl including ibis, herons, kingfishers and cormorants. There was also a scattering of dwellings near the riverbanks with children swimming in the water. The only distressing thing was that from time to time you could see plastic debris in the bushes and shorelines. This obviously came from nearby banana plantations that use blue plastic to cover the banana stalks to keep them protected from insects.

If you can take the long drive from San Jose to see animals in there naturally surrounding then this is for you. The one thing you will need is luck because of the change you weather conditions. So check the forecast and plan ahead.

We did this tour as a full day tour. It is a long drive from San Jose. However, we had a fantastic time. We booked through Viator. Our tour guide was Mauricio and our boat driver was Pedro. We had a great time and they both went out of their way to make sure we saw all the nature and wildlife. We saw a sloth actually moving with her baby in a tree. crocodiles, bats, horses, and monkeys.
The highlight of our cruise was truly once in a lifetime and I credit both our guide and boat driver. We saw a baby monkey on a branch in the river. We watched and he fell in. We thought he'd be able to swim to shore but as we sailed away, thought, no, we better go back and check on him. Well, he wouldn't have made it. Our boat driver gently nudged the boat to him and our guide picked him up by his tail out of the water. He looked so scared. Our driver sailed to the island where the howler monkeys were and our guide went and gently put him on the trunk of the tree. As we sailed away, we saw Mama monkey come and get the poor baby.
This is a must do. We had a great time and also this tour includes lunch. Well worth the long drive.

I went white water rafting here with a huge group of teenagers through an organization called Rustic Pathways. Best experience ever. My guide Jodi was amazing and made the experience. Even though white water rafting can be scary my guide was great at making us comfy with it and it a great time. Best experience I have had white water rafting. It's a great place for people to go if it is their first time going white water rafting too. Thank you Jodi for making this such an incredible experience!!!!

This sounds wonderful. I hope you don't mind me asking what tour company you went with for the boat trip and stop at Black Wood Farm. How you might have booked the trip. Many thanks, Jane
