You get some great views from Schnebly Hill Road but too bad the sealed roads ends a short way up the hill and then it becomes a very rough and tough road suitable for 4WD. The veiws are magnificant.

Took the trail up in our Bronco... nothing too crazy. There were trails to hike and views galore. People were riding bikes and hiking all over. Saw every type of vehicle. Pretty rocky. During the winter months only 4 miles are open out of the 11. Right outside of sedona.

Sedona is a beautiful area. Every location has a gorgeous view. There are plenty of outdoor hikes and the food was excellent. It is a little pricey but worth the trip.

We traveled down the road not knowing what to expect. It was an effort to avert construction traffic. First few miles were typical gravel then it turned into rock crawling for 5 to 6 miles. There were some large rocks and ruts and could only be driven with a high clearance 4x4. We had a vehicle that could handle it and did fine. If you are desiring a 4x4 only trail, then it will be a good trip for you. The scenery from the road was awesome.

This is a serious warning. We were in a good four wheel drive and were seriously concerned about whether we were going to make it all the way down or have to abandon our car. There are very large rocks, a cliff edge and it is extremely bumpy, such that you need to think carefully about whether your car can make it down. It also took a significant amount of time (an hour and 15 minutes) so don’t go by what Waze or Google maps says.
Gorgeous views but please think seriously before doing it and be prepared.

I’ve done Schnebly Hill Rd dozens of times in my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara with manual transmission. It’s such a blast to drive down from Flagstaff to Sedona and take the even more scenic route (compared to the beautiful 89A).
Top down. Blasting Indiana Jones soundtrack.
Beginning from the top of the drive the road starts off flat and reasonable but then it curves and you are in off-roading territory. It’s very doable…you don’t need to be an expert, but you do need an off-road vehicle.
Really bumpy. REALLY fun.

I have a 4Runner which did well on the road, which is a 4-wheel drive road only. Beautiful views and a nice escape from overcrowded hiking trails and full parking lots at Trail Heads

Awesome drive up from Sedona in our Jeep Wrangler. We got a late start, 4:30 pm in Oct., thinking we could make it up and over before sunset. Wrong! First 4 miles was moderately technical with multiple steps, stairs, ruts, grades, etc. however 4 wheel drive was necessary? in only a handful of places. A dozen Jeeps from tours made pull offs necessary. We made it near the top in the dark where another couple coming the other way had stopped to survey, wondering whether to turn around. I suggested they continue on since they were half through the course. Only a 1/4 mile past them the trail turned to a grated gravel road and was easily completed. Had I known I would have recommended they turn around.

Is there a staging area at i17 and schnebly hill? Will I need a red rock pass?

I'm afraid of heights Is this a trail that I can do with my husband renting a jeep?

Just sit on the left side of vehicle going up and right side going down. You will be fine!

Hi, donna. What would you like to know about this attraction? Just wanted to let harrier2018 know we did the same drive in a 2 wheel drive impala. It was in late Ocotober of 2015 and very cold. Snow was coming down and it was dark for the entire ride. At one point the car completely turned off from the jostling. It was hard to hold the wheel , navigate around the big boulders and keep the high beams on. We enjoyed your travelogue and glad you survived. When we finished our scary drive we were both so shook up we cancelled our dinner plans. For sure, this ride was one of the most frightening experiences we've ever had. It was intensified because of the snow and darkness.

The ride is only worthwhile during the daytime with good visibility so you can enjoy the views. So only downhill from I-17 into Sedona. No other reason on earth to take this trip unless you want to have a 4-wheel-drive experience . . .

Hi, we're a group of Singaporeans who were thinking of driving along Schnebly Hill Road, as part of the Route 89/89A scenic drive with a rented Ford Compass- it has a ground clearance of around 8 inches. Would that be sufficient clearance?
We were thinking of starting from Wickenburg and turning onto 179 at Sedona to enter Schnebly via I-17, before following 89A up along Oak Creek Canyon. Any advice or comments about our route would also be appreciated! We've heard a lot about it from many other online sites (including this one!) and how scenic it is :)

Assume you mean Jeep Compass? Anyway, as noted by someone else, 8" just enough, but the drive will be very slow (probably close to 2 hours for about 10 km.) and find out if the Compass has 4wd, I would not attempt with with 2wd. However, interesting road, you could consider renting either a regular jeep or jeep with guide to do the trip in Sedona. Pink Jeep tours are extremely popular. You will love the scenary in Sedona.

It is not that long a trip, probably do it in less than an hour, so go before you go!!!! Of course if you are going on a tour, they should be able to answer it for sure, but we have never seen any and we have taken it several times. If you stop a lot you could possibly take 2 hours.

There are no restrooms. There are some restaurants and shopping centers near where the road starts...

Is the road open from the top I'd like to go this weekend
Rédigé le 20 février 2015
The road is probably open especially with it the opening of the Sedona Film Festival. However I would not attempt this road without a Jeep Wrangler that is jacked up. it is not maintained, many areas are washed out with large rocks protruding straight up-very easy to puncture a transmission or oil pan. It would be difficult, and very costly, for a tow truck to get to you. if you do not have a high clearance vehicle, please rent a vehicle or let a tour company show you around.

Hey, there! I'm hoping to attend a spiritual workshop at the Sedona Creative Life Center on Schnebly Hill Road. I'm attempting to do this on a seriously thin budget...are there any accommodations( hotel, lodge, B&B, VRBO, Air BnB) under the $125 range located ON Schnebly HIll Road? If not, any recommendations for something very close to it? Thanks so much!!!!
Rédigé le 18 février 2015
As far as I know there are no lodging on Schnebly Hill Road. There may be a camping place or maybe a trailer parking site. there are plenty of locations in Sedona, you should check them out online. The Cedars is not far and fairly reasonable when I was there several years ago. Good luck and have a great time. You will love Sedona.
