After visiting this place, I started posting the hashtag #VisitAdo on my platforms. This is to tell you how historically significant this place is! You are going to have fun climbing the hill, visiting the lake, the elephant tree and all!

You can't go there directly from Ibadan. First I took the bus to Iseyin (3,000 Naira). From the bus station I took a motor taxi to the motor park (300 Naira). I had to wait at least 45 minutes until the bus departed (buses leave when they are full). I took the bus to Ado-Awaiye (800 Naira), where guides were already waiting. The bus driver knew where to drop me off.
I was then assigned a guide and we walked towards the entrance to the hiking trail. Apart from the fact that I can hardly understand Nigerians - even if they speak English, I could already understand 15k. In short: From what I understood, the guide seriously wanted 15,000 Naira from me. At some point we passed a house. The guide told me to ignore the young man there, which I didn't do. He wanted an entrance fee - 1,000 Naira. Then I had to pay another 4,000 Naira for the guide and photos. A long discussion followed between the young man and the guide - because the guide originally wanted 15k, which he apparently never said. Instead he wanted 15 Bax, which is the same thing - and I wanted to turn around and go back to Ibadan. I felt completely ripped off. But the discussion continued until the young man called my guide's brother. After a while the brother came and then all three men argued about the price or whatever - they spoke in the local language.
Long story short: After 45 minutes of discussion, I paid 1000 Naira entrance fee and 2000 Naira for the guide. The hike - mostly up stairs - to and from the lake takes 1 hour. On the way you can see the Ishaga Rock, footprints and the elephant tree.
Another group walked further - up a mountain. But my guide refused and so after a few photo stops along the way and along the lake we walked back down.
Back at the intersection where the bus dropped me off, I tried to hail shared taxis. After 45 minutes, a car finally stopped. For 800 Naira, I was driven to the Iseyin bus station. Then I took a bus to Ibadan Ojoo (1,500 Naira).
Apart from the many discussions, I can recommend the trip to the suspended lake.

I was interested in seeing a suspended lake. Very interesting. But I was also here for the uphill hike. I enjoy hiking. There were several other sightseers here who survived the hike.

Iyake suspended lake is said to be the only one in Africa and second in the world.
It is located at Ado-Awaye town;about 20mins drive from Iseyin in Oyo state,Nigeria.
The view of the lake at the top of Ado-Awaye mountains is mesmerizing.
You sure don’t want to miss this if you plan visiting Nigeria soon.

Beautiful place. It's a lovely hike up could get a bit tiring but it's doable for most levels of fitness... I would rate it an easy to moderate hike. The views from mid way and on top are very rewarding. We payed a local guide to go up it us. It would also be nice if the government took care of the dumpsite right next to the billboard

This really is a great place to see from a view point of view. Heck 600+ steps and then about 500 metres on top of the rock till you get to the suspended lake.
We had some local kids and two men take us around and show as about. The stories of the myths where very informative. The guides and the kids mad the trip fun - fantastic friendly folks.
I must say I am unfit and found this to be very hard work but the views were well worth it.
I do however think that the tourism department need to fix up the 500 broken steps and put some signposts up on the road so that you can find it...
Any one looking for a good workout with fantastic view this place gets top point. No payments but with the tour guides assisting recommend a good tip.

The major activity is climb the rock. There are few historical items to take not of while climbing but that's about it. The lake is beautiful though.

The hike was so hectic, I asked myself ‘who sent you’. But the beautiful scenery at the mountain top, and the magical Iyake lake overcompensated for the hassle. Definitely a must see!

Ado-awaye is not just a community with the mysterious suspended lake or amazing landscapes it itself and experience and embodiment of historical and cultural stories. My journey to the site was a bit rough but the experience on the mountain made up for it. The community people are friendly and the wonders are real, just come prepared to hike and sweat it out. Ado-awaye is a must for adventure lovers. It an amazing place to spend Christmas with family, friends and loved ones. I plan on visiting the place with friends on boxing day, interested in tagging along message me on twitter @smartalphabets

It was a lovely experience, I went with a team of hikers Ummah zone tourism and the tour guide on 27th October 2018. from 364 steps to the Elephant tree, Odo Iya alaro, Iyake lake (the suspended lake), agbomo fun iyake (the small foot print with water), Ese awon agba, ese kan aye, ese kan orun and the ancient palace on the rock. We spent 2 hours 30 minutes to get to the peak. Ado Awaye, Iseyin Local Government area of Oyo state is indeed lucky to have the second suspended lake in the world. i suggest the government will see reason to invest in this area part of which is required are signs and direction for easy access as there was nothing to show "this is the suspended lake" Thanks to the Tour guide. Brief history of the aforementioned (things to see on the rock), first aid stand and correct Amala joint. Hiking is actually a way to go and tourism can earn this country a good return on investment.
