Total disappointment! We paid admission for the entire museum, but only spent about 20 minutes there because, while in the first room of about 15 pieces, they closed off the rest of the museum! When we paid, the woman who took our money said all but one room was open. Now, just 20 minutes later, all but one room was closed to change out one exhibit. When she found out I came from Pennsylvania, she offered me a free book (they were charging $1 for the books) and the best advice: Orange County's art museum is FREE admission. Seemed like amateur hour. And those 15 pieces weren't even that great -- kinda looked like art school projects. I got the idea they have enough money that they don't have to be too nice to paying customers.

The display on the main floor of the gift of the private collection gathered by the former curator, Nancy D___ Wall M____, exemplified her excellent eye for good art, though it said she specialized in California art history. The rest of the museum was rather a waste of space and our time, I opine. It was barely worth the money for us.

It's small, but you can find some very interesting arts inside of this three floors building. Suggest you go if you go to Laguna Beach, only thing is hard to find parking .

We visited on the 1st Thursday of Sept- so no admission fee between 6-9pm. Interesting gift shop with jewelry, books, clothing, etc by California artists.
Saw a collection of clown paintings by Wayne Thiebaud who is 101 years old this year!
Enjoyed the "Hymns to Silence" photography by Jacques Garnier- interesting black and white photos with striking and unusual architectural structures. Selections from the permanent collection were interesting including work by Judy Chicago. Portraits from the Pageant of the Masters were displayed in the lower gallery. Wine was available for purchase and was allowed in certain areas of the museum. There was a table with paper, brushes, and watercolors set up for children and others who wanted to create some art. Certainly a pleasant visit this museum.

Currently a special exhibition of the early 20th century artist Radmond Granville. He was a deaf mute who said his deafness gave him special sensitivity to hear nature with his eyes. Excellent small museum

We are lucky enough to have friends who are members and one invited us to a Saturday night reception for the opening of their two latest exhibitions. It was members only from 5PM to 6PM and the catering was delicious. West Coast Events Production did a great job with their food to coincide with the Mexican Art. Chicken Mole, rice, Shrimp Casa Dias, to mention a few. One exhibit contains works by Artemio Sepulveda a Laguna Beach resident at one time now returned to his native Mexico. The other exhibit is Travels in Mexico, with works from the collection of E. Gene and Diane Crain. Their collection includes works from notable artists, Millard Sheets, Rex Brandt, Emil Kota, Jr., Phil Paradise, Dong Kingman, and Milford Zorrnes. Many from the 1930’s and 1040’s, extraordinary in there simplicity and beauty.

We have visited the Laguna Art Museum twice when visiting Southern California and highly recommend it. The collections change but appear to be primarily Southern California artists, and those who were part of the art scene in Laguna in the early 1900s and since. On this occasion there were some exceptional photographs of the area taken in the 1970s and 1980s before the residential development that now covers the hillsides. The modern art on exhibit was also lovely. Parking can be a challenge since the museum is in the middle of a popular beach destination and restaurants, but we found a metered space a block away. Admission is reasonable for the area and they have a lovely museum shop.

We stopped by the Museum on the recommendation of a friend. We are glad we did. It is located on the PCH On the north end of Laguna Beach. The Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The exhibits change, but for the moment they include and exhibit of landscapes by early California painters from the Museum’s collection, an exhibit of prints by Jon Baldessari entitled “I will not make any more boring art” and an exhibit of exquisite animal sculptures by Gwynn Murrill. Well worth a visit.

A very nice place close to main beach with some interesting art, but do not visit expecting a world class museum.

We visited on a weekday morning with two kids in tow. During our visit, there were three exhibits on three floors (all accessible by elevator). The museum recently expanded its permanent collection. There were people around to answer questions and a guided tour was in progress. The museum’s interior is attractive and filled with light. There are informative narratives next to each piece of artwork. The extensive background about the artists really added to the experience. We learned that many of the artists knew each other and were a part of a growing art community in Laguna Beach. There’s a gift shop near the museum entrance with a good variety of unique and interesting items. Definitely worth a visit!
