My friends and family visited in early November. We had a comparative testing, and Grace was our host. She was super knowledgeable and made our entire tasting super interesting and we learned a lot. All of the wines were fantastic!! All of us ordered bottles to take home- Sycamore, Oakville, and Josephine.

Combining the good tasting experience with the horrible customer service I am giving Freemark Abbey 2 stars. My friends and I ordered wine on October 14th, 2023. Both my friends have received their shipments but I have not (although my card was charged several weeks ago). After 3 voicemails and 1 email still not a peep from Freemark Abbey. Wine is happiness. Freemark Abbey is not.

It was an impersonal experience. We had no choice in which wines we could taste. It was basically “you get to taste these 3 wines and the cost is $40”. All three wines were red and when we asked if we could taste (or even pay for a glass of any) white wines we were told “no but we were welcome to purchase a bottle on the way out”.
By far our worst experience at any tasting room.

Wow, just wow! Made reservations for a private "Decades tasting" . New even just started in May, we were maybe the 10th to 15th couple to do it. They taste 6 wines, 2 from 1992, 2 from 2002, 2 from 2012. Library wines (Sycamore and Broche). They started us with a glass of Sav Blanc, didn't even know they made one. Then downstairs for the tasting. After going the 6 included on the tasting, Bryan our host, brought down about 4 or 5 more wines to taste. We ended up leaving with 4 library wines and shipped home 6 bottles of more traditional Cabs. At $250 a person, it was pricey, but still a value considering all the wines we tasted. Highly recommend.

We had four fabulous wine tasting done during our stay in Napa, but the gold medal goes to Freemark Abbey.

From the very first sight at the loveliest property with its stunning rose garden, beautiful building and gorgeous modern tasting room, we knew that we made the right choice.

We were seated in a separate booth, where the list of six wines included in the flight was already on the table with a warm personalized welcome to the comparative tasting.

Our host, Trey Ortega, was so welcoming, generous with his time and very patient answering our numerous questions. He presented each wine to us separately, explained their unique qualities and characteristics, told us about the history of the winery and pointed out the walls of the old abbey gracefully blended in the striking modern interior of the tasting room.

The flight had six wines (two divine Merlots, two exquisite red blends, one Cabernet and their pride and joy, 2018 Josephine Blend, named after the founder of the winery, Josephine Tychson.

Everything was perfect and we could not have made a better choice.

Freemark Abbey has been on our to-do list for a few years now. We were seated inside a huge tasting room and were the only ones there due to Covid restrictions. Kim was our hostess and she did a great job. We especially enjoyed learning about the winery's history - and one of the very first female winemakers! Our Comparative Tasting (6 wines) from a variety of vineyards was $50. We showed plenty of wine interest and had lots of questions so Kim brought out a bottle of Josephine for us to try. Named after the winemaker this was a smooth and elegant wine. We each bought some and she graciously waived our tasting fee.

Its been a few years since we have visited Napa, but Freemark Abbey is always on our list and this time did not disappoint. Grace led us through an amazing tasting and we highly recommend visiting 😀

$50 Appellation Tasting on a Sunday Afternoon

Looking for a place to end our Napa weekend on a high note, the manager of another winery recommended Freemark. We took the last seating of the day (3pm) and enjoys a wonderful, relaxing, and overall-delicious experience.

Todd was a wonderful server--incredibly knowledgeable about the wine (in a super-accessible way, and not at all the pretentious way Napa-ites sometimes can be) and a great conversationalist (even tolerating some pop quizzes from our table :)).

The wines were a great range, in flavor profiles, consistency, and price point. Definitely something for most-everyone. We got a few extra pours, too - including the viognier, which was a wonderful (but off-menu) recommendation from a manager at Luna Vineyards.

The grounds are beautiful, and definitely hit the stone-aesthetic of an Abbey pretty hard, but somehow it doesn't feel forced or out of place. There charm and beauty and of course many roses.

Absolutely recommend adding Freemark Abbey to your Napa itinerary.

Beautiful location, sat outside in the garden area which was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very friendly and informative making the tasting very fun and enjoyable for the group. The wines were delicious, wish there was something to nibble on to enhance the flavors even more. But we really enjoyed our time at Freemark Abbey. Would recommend stopping by...

Three of us, adults/family, visited for wine tasting at $50 each. Upon arrival, went to check in for my reservation and was rudely stopped and told I wasn’t allowed inside, though it was an open space. The server assigned was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines; a little tasting of 6 reds. That’s it! Nothing else! That’s a lot of money for 6 sips of vino! For $150 we could have shared a very nice bottle of vino at a restaurant/wine bar with an appetizer or two. I had been wanting to visit Napa’s wine country and their wineries, but have been extremely disappointed! Yes, the scenery is beautiful and enjoyed the drive more than the tastings! I’m sorry, pandemic not an excuse! Practicing protocols requested by the abbey, with mask & social distancing you can still practice common courtesy and make someone feel welcome!
