We did the Sideways self-wine tour this past weekend. And Foxen was our only five-star experience.
The staff was great... very knowledgeable on the wines, history of the winery and the area, and overall friendly.
We enjoyed tasting the wines at their inside bar and would go back if we're in the area again.
I appreciate the refillable bottles of water and glasses for us. Thanks for keeping us hydrated in an eco-friendly manner!!

We're longtime fans of Foxen and it didn't disappoint on this trip. We had a lovely outdoor table in a covered area. With the COVID restrictions, all wineries really had to scramble to make tastings work, and Foxen did a great job. Jordan took care of us, and he was terrific. We also know Tamara, who was helping other tables, but we visited with her as well. Their wines are always consistent and reliable. The tasting was great, done at a perfect pace, and we bought a lot of wine to continue to enjoy at home. Huge fans of Volpino, Pajarito and Range 30 West, but bought some lovely whites as well. This is a must stop on Foxen Canyon Road.

Visited here on a Wednesday morning after the California post-COVID "re-opening". The only seating was outdoors, perhaps due to lingering pandemic restrictions. Unfortunately, it was during a heat wave, so it was not the best environment to be tasting in.
We chose the tasting with a mix of six varietals rather than the Pinot-only tasting. I think it included just one Pinot, but we asked for a small splash of another that was being sold in our local Costco so we could decide whether or not to get some of that one.
The wines were not as good as we had hoped given recommendations from friends. But our palettes are used to Napa/Sonoma and even Paso Robles style wines which generally tend to be bolder, heavier, and fruitier. And the heat was really not conducive to a nice tasting, so I'm sure that contributed to our experience. We also tend to prefer tasting experiences where we have a dedicated host that tells us more about the winery and the wines than we got at Foxen. We met some club members while tasting who said Foxen was one of their two favorite wineries. So indeed, everyone has different palettes and expectations.
Our group did like the Volpino Sangiovese/Merlot blend a lot and bought bottles which waived the tasting fee, which was only a reasonable $20/person...much lower than the Napa/Sonoma wineries we are used to visiting. Still, that's only one of seven wines tried that we liked enough to buy. I was hoping for more.

Spent 2 hours today at Foxen Winery. Recommendation is to have a reservation which we did not have but with it being Monday they were able to seat us anyway although they were pretty busy. We were greeted and given a quick tour before being seated on the patio with very comfortable seating. 2 different flights were offered. Our wine pourer Tamara was very knowledgeable having had this position for 10 years. Think they specialize in Pinot but Tamara offered a number of options. My wife enjoyed every pour and we chose to ship 12 bottles home to Tennessee. Shipping is only $5 and the price was discounted 15% because we ordered a dozen and the tasting was free. Don’t miss Foxen Winery if you are wine tasting in the Foxen Canyon

Arrived at 12:15 PM for my appointment only to find out that it had been cancelled somehow. The staff pulled a rabbit out of the hat and found a table for tasing for us. I had a Pinot flight and she had a mixed flight of whites and reds. All were good, a couple were outstanding. I ended up buying 6 bottles and a baseball hat as a gift. So $341 and I saved the tasting fee.

Been coming here since it was just the old shack. Great wines, but now with the outdoor experience and events, it's a necessary stop for all our wine country visits. You can't go wrong here :).

In these days of Covid, only the main tasting area is open (not the shack), and it's all outside. But what a beautiful outside area. Very large, lots of tables. And you are really out in the country. Beautiful scenery, even with the dry hills of summer. Oh, and the wines are very good! Lots of variety to choose from, but they concentrate on Pinot Noir. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a spectacular visit at the Foxen Shack, a bit up the road from the main tasting room. Tamara greeted us, and poured a gorgeous flight of wines. We have enjoyed Foxen wines for a long time, and this trip was no exception. Our particular favorites were the Sauvignon Blanc and the red blends: Pajarito, Range 30 West and Volpino. All extraordinary.

Is it joe friendly and do we have to pay to get in

You do not have to pay to get in to the tasting room but you will pay for wine tasting. I think it was $10 and $15 or $15 and $20. There are two separate tasting rooms. They pour different wine. We usually share one tasting between two of us.
