Sam Hicks Monument Park is located at the end of Front Street in Old Town Temecula. It is a shot walk to Oldtown and you can always find parking here.
The park is about 2 acres acres and has a beautiful gazebo which is a really nice place to sit and relax. There are a ton of shade trees because Temecula in the summer can get very hot.
The park has nice and clean picnic tables and BBQ grills. It is not usually crowded, but use of the BBQ area can get crowded for a kid's birthday or other family event. The entire are is very clean and you can bring your dog. Keep them on a leash.
The restrooms are clean and safe.
The Sam Hicks Monument (designed by Hicks) is made out of a 150 ton block of white granite. The monument was designed by Hicks to honor those who came through many years ago on their way to another California area to make a life. It is lovely.
There is a super nice place area for kids and they will be busy about an hour. It is not huge, but wine/grape themed and super cute.
It is a great place to park, go to the park and then walk over to Old Town.

Situated at the end of Front Street in Old Town Temecula one finds a small 1.8 acre park with a gazebo (perfect for sitting and resting tired feet after traversing the entire Old Town area) and lots of shade trees. The park is equipped with picnic tables and barbecue grills. Restrooms are also available within the park confine. Dogs are permitted if on a lease. Just a short distance from the main entrance to the park there is a huge granite monument designed by Sam Hicks to honor the pioneers who "Passed This Way" during their journey to the west. Temecula was a stop off center during this time frame (1850 -1890's). Some pioneers stayed in the area while others just 'pass on through' heading to other destinations in California. The Monument is made out of a 150 ton block of white granite. The names of 56 pioneers are carved into the sides of the granite block. Kit Carson, Helen Hunt Jackson and Thomas "Pegleg' Smith are just a few of the well known names inscribed on the block of stone. Other than the “Sam Hicks Monument Park” marker at the park’s entrance there is no plaque, sign or information telling visitors who Sam Hicks was, what he meant to the community and or even why the park in Old Town bears his name. A truly unique monument honoring those early pioneers who ventured to California. Well worth an hour visit.

There used to be a tot lot (playground) but now it's gone, you can see where it once was. I know there are a lot of homeless but now with the new center opened up down the street there should be a better place for them to get the help they need. I used to love this area, next to the museum, the chapel, and the monument but now all it's good for it a place to stop and play Pokemon Go on community days.
I wouldn't call this a park anymore.

For us, this location is pretty much the end of our Old Town Front Street walk (about a mile in distance) and the lovely park is a relaxing depature from the intense shopping and eating environment that defines much of Old Town. There is a small gazebo and a museum in this little park.
The tall granite monument bears the names of 56 early pioneers (including Kit Carson) and is as rugged as the history of this location.

Historic aspect of Old Town. Nice park area and memories of a time long gone. I hear they feed the homeless on weekends here.

This is near a quaint church with beautiful gardens and the historical museum in Old Town. They Passed This Way monument makes you stop and think of those who framed the local history. I just read other reviews that mentioned homeless people hanging around. We didn't see any--I guess the four policemen we saw in the vicinity were there for that reason. For us it was a lovely, quiet few minutes.

Such a fun artifact to see all the famous people to spend time here in Temecula. Probably very under appreciated. Some day I am going to take that walking tour of Temecula. I have lived here 28 years It is probably time! So much history here.

Located in front of the Temecula Museum this park, has numerous benches and a gazebo, there is also a large circular area filled with sand. Whether this is a giant litter box or a place for a future childs playground remains to be seen. This park also has a large grassy area, that on the day we were there was the encampment for a few of the homeless in the area. A giant granite monument is located at the entry to the park. Quiet place to stroll.

Well it is not hard to find if you walk around Old Town. You can see the large stone placed on a large base. There is a band stand along a little path near the museum. There is a large sand area with nothing in it I am not sure if it will turn into a play ground. I am thinking that at the moment the park is in the evolution phase and hope that its resources are explored to maximize its potential.

Sam Hicks Monument Park has always been a nice spot for a little quiet and a chance for kids to play. Now it seems to be undergoing a renovation and it will be fun to see how it gets even better.
