Like the other comments - a theatrical gem - even more so given its “remote” location
The production of Pirates of Penzance was as good as any we have seen in London - with very gentle updates to accommodate changes in society since it was written.
Brilliant production and a great afternoon’s entertainment

Unfortunately, this was closed, so we couldn't see the interior. However, between the opera house and the Teller House is a lovely garden we enjoyed. More than just plants, there are a number of interesting markers, as well. A lovely spot to rest for a bit.

I feel like this is an overlooked destination given its proximity to Denver and how great it is. I brought my sons to the Short Works and Madama Butterfly in July and it was very memorable. The venue was gorgeous. There is a courtyard and the theater company uses other adjoining buildings and buildings across the street (Williams' Stables) for concessions and other performances. Parking was a bit dicey, and I did not allow enough time so by the time I parked and paid up the street we were too late for the beginning of the short works and the attendant wouldn't let us in during the first short performance. Understandable. She also dealt well with me being sharp with her when she didn't let my boys in for the second performance when I ran across the street for snacks for them. Ugh, face palm; I apologized later -- I was just mad at myself for being late. Anyway, the short works that we saw were good and Madama Butterfly, magnificent. They had subtitles in English and a wonderful cast and set.

I worked as a tour guide in the Opera House many years ago, so going back to see it now was fabulous. A lot of the stories I had forgotten about. Its history is fascinating. This is also still a working opera house in the summer, with excellent productions with established opera stars and one of the best apprentice programs in the country. The acoustics are absolutely perfect owing to the thick stone walls. I highly recommend a visit.

Loved the Opera House. Came here from Ohio to see my nephew perform in the opera "Billy Budd" with the Central City Opera. What a fantastic and professional production. He also performed in "Madam Butterfly." We took him to Rocky Mountain National Park on his one day off that week. If you visit, be sure to actually see an Opera. The accoustics are excellent.

My husband and I visited the Opera House to see Madame Butterfly. All I can say is AMAZING. The surroundings were gorgeous and the performances were powerful and riveting. You won't be disappointed.

I love opera and Madama Butterfly is my favorite opera! I had the privilege to see my favorite opera there last week. It was done superbly! Excellent opera!

I used to live in Central City as a teenager, and I'd just admire the people going to the opera. And now, I was one of them. Felt great!

No bad seats in this opera house!

In past days, Central City was a prosperous mining town, and residents wanted to demonstrate they appreciated culture. Over the years, the lovely opera house fell into disrepair, but eventually was restored. Today's Central City residents have resisted the pull of ultra modernity and kept their town small, walkable, and pleasant. The best part is the opera house where every summer presents another festival of music and drama. Long regarded as an important first stop on beginning a career, the opera company attracts excellent young talent, and every year presents a superb chorus. The stage crew makes excellent use of the small stage. This year's Madame Butterfly was just great!

We traveled to Denver then did the 45-minute drive out to Central City to see the Central City Opera production of Madame Butterfly. The historic opera house is a great venue. Small. Not a bad seat in the house. The company has been staging an excellent summer opera festival for many years. Well worth the visit.

I visited Central City 25 years ago. I wanted to return, because I wanted to see if legalized gambling had changed the charm that I remember. I'm glad to say it hasn't and maybe gambling made it better.
We stopped in the visitor center and had a great chat with the local fellow manning the information desk. He had a lot of fascinating stories and insights about the town.
It doesn't take long to walk down main street. The gambling casinos have taken over the old buildings, but have not altered the outside of the facade.
All the brick buildings look pretty much the same as when they were rebuilt after the fire of 1874 that burned most of the town down. The casinos probably brought some money to spruce up the town. They even have a marijuana dispensary.
It's not difficult to imagine what it was like in the old days.
You won't be sorry to spend a some time here.
