Deering Estate is a beautiful property which is well worth the visit. We enjoyed the history of the place and both the Richmond Cottage and the Stone House are nicely preserved. We were lucky to have a guided tour by the knowledgeable Tori. We later explored the grounds - the carriage house, the pump and electricity building, the mangrove boardwalk, the art installations, but the biggest wow is the view of the key lock shaped dock or boat turning basin flanked by majestic palms.
A very peaceful setting and we stayed from the opening to closing time and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was wise to bring along some sandwiches which we enjoyed on sturdy benches bordering the dock while watching a pod of manatees, two big snook fishes, and birds with large outstretched wings soaring the skies. We were lucky to also see a few pelicans at the end of the mangrove boardwalk making huge splashes as they dive for fishes. Worth the visit.

Wow... beautiful place and gardens. We enjoyed having our own picnic lunch on the grounds and visiting the home and pump house. This is truly one of the hidden gems and very quiet. The only disappointment we had is that the "visitors center" is pretty much closed and more of a classroom building with washrooms. Just go directly to the gate entrance to pay your admission.

This morning, we had a fantastic experience at Deering Estates! Their representative Jessica's knowledge of the grounds and passion for the place really made a difference. It's wonderful to see someone so dedicated to supporting our group and hobby. Deering Estates is a great spot for family visits and community support. Thank you Jessica !!!!!!!

The estate is large in area. There is a lovely range of plants and trees in the gardens. We were told about a guided visit around the gardens, which we would have been interested in, however it was 2 hours and we could not fit that in. The two houses were very different and interesting. There were still decorated with rhe Alice in Wonderland christmas theme, and it was stunning ... we had not expected it and was beautifully done. The history of the house and its acquisition is very interesting and as a visitor I am so glad it has been preserved for people to see and enjoy. The manatees in the inlet was the icing on the cake !! But even without it is a place with a lovely atmosphere.

Beautiful estate to enjoy with family. Must paid fee to enter but enter get to enjoy the beautiful estate unbothered. The Main house has the beautiful view of the bay and artifacts inside the house, such dresses, lamps, window painting, bedroom etc. The other house has the rocking chair which you can sit and enjoy the bay view, house also has artifacts and bedroom to see. One of my favorite part is the outside which can enjoy the amazing relaxing view of the bay, if you lucky can find manatee in the water.

We had a great time touring the grounds and buildings within the Estate and learning about Charles Deering and family whose brother actually built Viscaya just north of it closer to Miami.
The grounds, although not the Vizcaya manicured gardens are beautiful. The different buildings are reflective of life in the are in the early 1900's. The highlights for sure are the Stone House and the Richmond Cottage because of it's history dating to the days before Deering purchased the land.
The Boat Basin is unique and a haven for manatees. It was so fun to see a good number of them breaching for air and enjoying their natural habitat. However, I was concerned for them as we witnessed a tour boat that appeared to be part of Miami-Dade Parks called the MDPros Explorer come into the basin with their full blasting engines to drop off a group of people. It is my understanding that boats with such engines are to at least lower their speed and or raise their engines none of which happened. We mentioned it to the skipper as people were getting off the boat and he didn't seem to care which was concerning given the fact manatees are protected and in danger species.
Overall, a great visit and a very interesting place.

This is a great stop - staff was very helpful (alerted us to possible manatee sighting in the tidal basin, which turned out to be true!). Unlike Vizcaya up the road (the estate of the other Deering brother), on a weekday we could wander here without any crowding. Do go upstairs in the house - the bedrooms and baths are very authentic to the time, and many items owned by the family are still onsite (or have been returned to the house). Gardens aren't as extensive as Vizcaya, and mangrove boardwalk was still broken when we visited. Do walk to the Chinese bridge about a mile from the house. All in all, a lovely stop with very nice and helpful people. One constructive suggestion - the explanatory postings on the art could be more helpful about dates and sources of the work.

Thank you for your review! Jan - April are generally good times to see manatees in the basin, we are glad you were able to see them during your visit.

Drove 20 miles out of my way, got there at 4:03pm (didnt realize traffic would be so bad due to people back at work and kids in school). Anyway, the gate was open, walked in with my 86 yo mom hoping to go for a short but pleasant walk, then ran back to car for my camera while she kept walking, but then I encountered the rudest MDC Parks employee who proceeded to kick myself and mother out (had to go get her out of the park) even though they stay open until 5pm. I had even brought exact change to pay for tickets since they had asked for it the first (and now last) time I had gone there. I thought the last time I went that they said the gate was open until 4:30pm and the park closed at 5pm. Also, he could have told us that there was a separate little walk nearby down to the water and dock that was part of the park and accessible - but he didnt. He just preferred being on his power trip in his big truck. He waited till we drove off, then parked right up behind us when we were parked in the other lot (where we had gone to do the other walk). He treated us like we were criminals. So fine, I dont need to go to the trouble of going back, and I prefer to just give my money and memberships to Fairchild Gardens and other local parks. Who needs Deering Estate, that experience left a terrible impression. I once worked for a city parks department, and thats not how you are supposed to treat the public.

This is a worthwhile visit. Go to the wood frame house first and find the video in the drawing room and sit for all of it. It gives you great historic information and some interesting tidbits. I would go to Fairchild Gardens and Viscaya first, but this is a good addition to the story of South Florida.

Truthfully I thought the Deering estate and viscaya we're the same.. they're not I like the Deering estate a lot more it's not so over-the-top and majestic.. this brother was into nature and it's a beautiful setting. I went prior to a rainstorm and ran to the car I will be going back it was a great day except for the rain I'd like to see it not decorated for Christmas

I live in coconut creek. Was thinking of taking the tri rail down to see the estate. How far is it from the tri rail station?
