Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge is so relaxing and beautiful! You can take your boat out on the lake to fish and also look at the beautiful wildlife. There’s many birds, turtles and fish at the lake. There’s a wooden dock that you can walk out onto and stay in there and look at the hundreds of trees coming out of the lake and the floating flowers. Nice place to have a picnic or a relaxing day out on the water!

This is a lovely little spot right off the road to catch a couple pictures. There are two different docks that you can walk out onto the water and the views are spectacular. I found it so peaceful and tranquil looking. There is also a walking trail that is easy and short that even little tots can walk on. If you have the chance to catch this place at sunset, the color of pink, blue, and purple coming down to the water with the mossy draped trees is gorgeous.
There is also a little ramp to bring your boat out and go fishing. Fishing on the docks allowed and you can rent a small Jon boat to use, however, both times being there the shop was closed so we weren't able to give it a try.

This is a nice place, however the grass in the lake is taking over. This park needs a few RV spaces and maybe a guide to the fishing spots or some things to look for while visiting. Excellent Boat ramp and trailer parking.

Worthy of a short visit to experience the quintessential South Georgia cypress pong. Short boardwalk and hiking trail a good leg stretch for travelers.

My daughter and I decided to explore the Georgia countryside during a stay in Valdosta during hurricane Matthew. We found Banks Lake on Google. Banks Lake is a shallow blackwater lake studded with cypress trees that supports many fish species, as well as other aquatic animals. It was formed when the Carolina Bay that makes up most of the refuge was dammed over 150 years ago. The refuge contains a variety of habitat types, including cypress swamp, freshwater marsh, uplands, and open water. Activities include boating, fishing and hiking.
