We visited here on our drive from Celje to Novo Mesto. After paying 6 Euros each, we were given a private tour of this 14th C castle that sits high over the Sava River. The historic living floors were most interesting; Period rooms included bedroom, Knight’s Hall, Garden Room with 4 season frescoes and a living room displaying beautiful paintings by Nik Anikis. I also liked the tower chapel and the terraced vineyard.

Castle Sevnica is a must to see if you are in Posavje region, Slovenia. It has a cute small old town and it's castle above the city on small hill, 5 min of walk. Really great view from the castle; town's roofs and the longest Slovenian beast / river Sava.
It is free of charge: the castle ground floor and castle park with surroundings. Recommended to take a walk. The museum / castle you have to pay, the tour guide is nothing special, but the tower with frescoes and castle interior is worth to visit. You will not be sorry.
A must to see is also newly renovated villa in the castle park, castle wine cellar and as well the famous Lutheran cellar on the east slope of the castle.
You can relax at a wine-tasting drinks or desserts of the castle cafe in the terrace in front of the castle. You should try sweet dessert Melania (white chocolate cake) and blaufrankisch wine (white or red).

I have been there for a couple of times. It's really greta when the weather is sunny, so view from there is really great.

We had our company meeting in conference hall, were 17 persons ... they prepared everything, room was pre-heated, we used projector and flipchart , what was preagreed and all was provided ... toilets are found on the same floor. It was a unique experiance to have a meeting between original thick castle walls !

South from Celje driving along river Savinja and Sava lies city Sevnica. It is also not very far away from Croatia. Close is also termal center Čatež.
It has very beautifull castle that gives good view on city.
Its accessible by car and have free parking.
Inside is restaurant, bar....

het kasteel is niet bijzonder groot maar mooi onderhouden en de moeite om te bezoeken. Geniet nadien van een koffie of een wijntje op het prachtige terras met uitzicht op de vallei en de rivier

We went there as that's the town the First Lady MT was born.
We drove the car up, there was a small parking. The castle was not big, but with many rooms. You have to sign up for a guided tour to visit.
High above the old town and the sava river we talked with the staff about the american dream and bought some First Lady chocolate.

Castle is open even in winter. You can visit it in afternoon even on Sunday. You can ask for special visit with a group – they guide you in several languages. Entrance fee is not low for Slovenia – more than 5 € for adults. They lead you through several collections: fire fighting, education, history of the castle, embroidery, some temporary presentations and wedding hall. Interesting are frescoes of seasons in the south tower. All rooms in the castle are very cold in winter. You can go in a small bar in the ground floor to drink hot tea. You can visit Sevnica with train.

We visite this wonderful place with our CzechMarionettes team and it was wonderful. Really friendly people, beautiful, clean place worth seeing for sure. Really nice countryside as well.

Renaissance castle is high above the city. You can visit the building with local museum and the garden with some old trees. Locals know also Lutrovska klet, a building with some frescoes. In the castle you will see inner yard and some different collections. Some rooms with fresco paintings of gardens and fountains (four seasons) are the main attraction in the building. There is a fine view from the entrance steps – to the Sava valley and houses under the castle. You can make a trip from Sevnica to Brestanica and Krško and visit some more castle and museums. There are less tourists than in other parts of Slovenia; it means that people have more time for visitors.
