Very few people know about the Ngonye Falls and it gets very few visitors, making it even more of a jewel. Not nearly as high as Victoria Falls, but the volume of water is enormous. The falls are located a just south of the village of Sioma, the thundering waterfall is an exciting day trip. Although sometimes best seen by boat, this seems to be broken now, so a guided walk of about 1200m from the parking spot on the eastern side of the river is good. Entrance and fees including our guide was K600 for a group a 10. The falls is in a horseshoe shape with a 20m drop, which spread in a broad crescent. Good at all times, the Ngonye Falls are most impressive when the river is high, an the falls are thundering.
It is worth working this into a visit to the area, even ahead of Vic Falls. To visit, cross the border between Namibia and Zambia as Wenela/Sesheke and take the road up to Sioma. The road is good tar and Kabula Lodge is and excellent place to stay over.
Warning, the road between Kazangula and Sesheke is notoriously bad and will take over 4 hours to drive, making a visit from Livingstone a nightmare unless you have planned for the extended travel time and losing a few tyres.

Many times I heard that the Victoria Falls are not really worth visiting when the Zambezi level is very low. There is an alternative and it is easy to reach from Livingstone. Just a 4 hours drive upstream you find the Sioma Rapids / Ngonye Falls. A hidden gem only 1km away from the tarmac. The walk is very easy and the view is stunning. There is a clean and quiet campsite right there.

We had an excellent stay at ngonye falls. The campground is great, each spot has its own flushing toilet, shower, fire ring and even table & bench. Fred, the caretaker is great. He will heat water for your shower and even start your fire. You can walk to the river in 5 minutes, super soft white sand and pretty rocks. The falls themselves are really nice too.
You could easily drive right by the office. If you have tracks for Africa, the location for the gate is spot on. Just open the gate and let yourself in. The office is on the left.
This was a great stop between mongu and Livingstone, and very affordable too. I highly recommend.

It's a nice place that can even allow you to meditate on important things in your life such as who created these falls is it by creation or they just came accidentally

More than worth to visit ! Hidden nearly unknown waterfalls - fascinating scenery. You can get there via boat cruise or - depending on water level - via walking with guides. Amazing and breathtaking view to see the width of the falls.
Very good reachable now - Raod from Kabula Lodge to Nghonye falls is nearly finished - only 14 km are gravel raod - rest is now tarred ! So perfect for a day visit !!
We´ll come back with guests again to see this falls !!

(Also known as Sioma Falls )
Excellent falls - even in low water.
Not too many places to stay - Sioma Camp is the best and you can hire their speed boat also.
Worth it for the views of Falls with absolutely no one around

Best accommodation at Ngonye Falls is Whispering Sands. Got a great bar, simple rooms but also big piece of ground so you will certainly be able to camp there. But I see they are not listed on Trip Advisor

When you say tracks for Africa will get you right to the gate...which camp do you mean as our tfa has several at ngonye!
Thanks
