There are 4 wineries locates 28-30 miles from the White House (reference point); Romanos is the oldest having fought the good fight with the liquor authorities to open a Prince Georges County for on farm wine sales.
Due to their location and the laid-back atmosphere they offer a great option for a day trip or short break from normal life’s stresses.
Romano’s is a very unpretentious operation with friendly staff. During the current COVID crisis (2020), they are only doing tastings Friday-Sunday then most days switch over to just glass and bottle sales while local musicians and a rotating roster of food trucks set up for the evening.
Seating is well spaced out on the patio and the lawn, overlooking the vineyards. They also allow you to bring snacks, a picnic, etc as well as blankets and chairs use on for the lawn. During our visit, people were celebrating a birthday, an engagement and hanging out in couples and small groups.check their website for current hours and rules as they adapt to the COVID situation.
Romano’s is a family run winery where they produce almost all their wine from grapes grown on the farm by the family. They have several reds, whites, a Rose and one wine from grapes imported from elsewhere. For a Maryland winery, their wines are fairly priced, mostly leaning into sweet. And a great sangria slushie’s on offer.

The Romanos run the winery and are often in the tasting room that is spacious and well stocked. They family believes in a wide assortment of tastes so everyone is happy. The vines are literally steps from the 1,200-square foot tasting room set on a family farm. It all makes for a fun time.

We visited with another couple. Joe did our wine tasting and was very informative. Everyone was very friendly. They had a band playing live music which was really nice. Their Sangria Slushy was delicious. The wines have won a lot of awards as displayed behind Joe and were very good. They also had some specialty food items. This winery was a lot of fun and a great place to get delicious wines. Definitely will be back.

Romano is a small winery in Southern Prince Georges County. The tasting room is small but welcoming. The winery offers tastings, glasses of wine, and bottles. They also have "wine slushies"! My favorite wine was the Chambourcin, a rich, full flavored red, although the Barbera was not far behind. The tasting room features live music; check the web site for their schedule. The winery is only about 45 minutes from DC, so it's easy to do in an afternoon. I'm looking forward to going back soon.

My wife and I were out for the weekend visiting wineries, lighthouses and antique shops. We ended up visiting 5 wineries and this was one of the best ones. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The facilities are clean and well maintained and nice. I prefer dry reds and my wife like sweeter wines. We both found a couple that we liked and purchased a couple bottles for home. If in the area will stop in again. Highly recommend.

We bought the Groupon to visit this local winery, that is literally 13 miles from my home. Me and three others went and did the wine tasting and then bought some wonderful cheese, crackers and a bottle of wine (OK, we bought 3 bottles of wine) and sat on the outdoor patio and enjoyed the nice spring day. This winery is worth the trip and bring a lunch, blanket and your free spirit. Wonderful as a first date, girls day or just sit and enjoy the scenery

We have visited Romano on several occasions, when the tasting was done in their home and now in the new tasting building. Their wines are very good and the owner is very friendly. Pours of the tasting is average. My only complaint about the new tasting building is that is was super cold even with my coat on, however, this winter was super cold too. I sure it will be a much nicer experience once the weather warms up. They are having painting events too which I hope to get to one soon. I do not know for sure but do not recall any food being for sale, so bring a snack with you.

I have visited Romano Vineyard and Winery twice. Both times I have been charmed by the wines and the warm welcome from the family-owners. On a visit a couple of years ago they hosted the wine tasting in their home, and we were treated to a tour of their winemaking facilities. They took so much time explaining their process, showing us their stainless tanks, and sharing their enthusiasm. I enjoyed the visit and learned so much.
Having also tasted their wines at festivals, I was anxious to return to Romano when we were "in the neighborhood" visiting other farms last weekend. Jo-Ann remembered us and told us all about their building a separate tasting and event space, where we sampled more recent vintages. Again, we had a very personal tasting wherein she answered questions about the challenges of growing grapes in southern Maryland. You simply don't get this kind of in-depth conversation and insight at most wineries.
The wines themselves are equally impressive. While I don't usually enjoy Chardonnay, theirs is un-oaked and very good. Liberty, a white blend, is also memorable. Again, I don't prefer sweeter wines, but their Rougeon is excellent and unusual. The Merlot and Chambourcin are wonderful, too. Their tasting price is $3 per person---one of the most reasonable prices around and well worth it.
