We had a fun time there. Heather, the wine expert who served us was the main reason why. She was very knowledgeable and fun to talk with. The pours there are also very generous not like most wineries that give you a splash to taste. They have a variety of wines. They don't have as many dry reds as my husband would have liked, but they do have some different types of wine that we both enjoyed. I'd go back again the next time I'm in St. Michaels.
This review required that I choose a length of time to be there. It all depends on how busy it is and/or how fast you drink. After the tasting, you can buy glasses or bottles of wine and stay there and drink if you'd like. Also, I don't recommend this for large groups. Wineries around me require reservations for groups. You will feel rushed probably if you come in with a group. It's too much for the server to handle especially these days when so many places are under staffed.

Friendly staff, clean tasting room. Nice selection of wine and cider. Unassuming from outside, fun time inside. Worth a stop!

I LOVED this spot. It feels a little tucked away and hidden, which is unfortunate considering it offers the best wine in St Michael’s. Make sure to seek it out, as their barrel oak Chardonnay is some of the best I’ve ever had. I love this place so much I’m willing to make the two hour drive alone for a wine haul. They have a wide variety of wines and ciders to please just about everybody!

Enjoyed the wine but experience was lacking. We were able to get a table immediately. Our server walked past our table repeatedly until my husband finally has to go up to the bar to order. We ordered flights and a cheese plate. I know Covid has made things difficult, But I think they can do better than a paper plate and a Dixie cup that was disintegrating after the first wine. The other server seemed knowledgeable but Hailey was very inattentive to our table. We watched many other tables come and have flights while we were still on our 3rd wine.

I was not impressed. Not even a little bit. We came for a visit and decided to stop in. We ordered a bottle of cider. The top selling most popular cider. This is very hard to believe. It was awful. I love cider and I love sweet. This cider was awful. Out of the 6 of us with varying tastes no one liked it. I decided to try the sweet flight. If the wines were fresh they may have been good. All the bottles were opened and half empty. They all had the few days old wine taste. I understand that they don’t want to open a new bottle for a small sample but I don’t want to PAY for old wine. Considering that each time I got a new wine to taste I was told it was the number one seller I was expecting to like every single one and I did not. The server was nice but slow. She was the only one in the bar so I was understanding. But instead of serving my flight all at once I had a long wait in between wines. The rest of my party was ready to go and I only had 2 of 6 wines for my flight. I finally asked her to pour the remaining samples and moved on. I tasted each one with the same disappointment. My sisters got the sparkling wine and said it was good. So if you decide to stop in I would say that may be a safe choice. It was more dry than sweet. Overall, I would say pass. Go down the street to the other winery!

Friendly place, nice wines, cool vibe. We liked the hard pear cider, the stainless steel Chardonnay (Unoaked) and the spinnaker rose.

If you like sweet wines to semi-dry wines, Great Shoals is a wonderful place to relax for a wine tasting. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. This is a winery that loves to try new combinations for their wines.

We had a fantastic experience doing a wine tasting here. We were welcomed with open arms and were able to take our time doing our tasting. All of the wines are fantastic and bottles to go are reasonably priced. A must do experience when visiting St. Michaels!!

The concept of "Maryland wine" is usually considered a joke among wine snobs. That being said, I keep an open mind since I did find one Maryland wine in particular that is as good as anything made in the country that is famous for it.
In this case, Great Shoals does have some very good wines worth considering for your cellar.
Just remember, everyone's taste is different. And some wines really have to be paired with food to be appreciated. My preference is for a wine that can stand on its own and be enjoyed with or without food.
We only tried the whites. The sauvignon blanc is very traditional, and should be tried. The Atlantic falls into the category of "anytime". Very pleasant, and you should have several bottles in your cellar, especially for the summertime. A standout is their stainless-steel aged chardonnay. That one has some real body and belongs in your collection.
We purchased three each of the Atlantic and the chardonnay. If we decide that they are as good as on first tasting, we'll order more.
And before I forget, the lady who served us (damn, I wish I remembered her name) was particularly warm and welcoming, and did her best to explain all of the different wines' characteristics. Considering the fact that she had only been there for a month or two, she really was learning her stuff.
Bottom Line: If you're into wine at any level, you'll be doing yourself a favor to stop by there. If you do, try the reds and write them up. I'll be interested in your opinion.

Great Shoals offers a wide variety of wines. We samples many and, after a few glasses, also bought a few bottles to add to our collection. The server was so friendly and helpful. She really knew the wines. My only suggestion is the place is very bare. They need to put some artwork, murals, or something on the walls. As it stands, its very cold and uninviting. It wouldn't take much to decorate the place. Just a suggestion.

Tasting Flights are $10, Cheese Plates are $8, and Souvenir Glasses are $5. So you save quite a bit with the package.
