Thitai is aboout 35 kms from Kumbakonam and 9 kms from Thanjavur. The temple is a very huge beautiful complex with a huge kalyani in front of the temple. The main deity is Lord Shiva while Lord Guru is located at the entrance to Shiva's Temple in the complex. You also have Goddess Parvati Temple here.

There is navagraha carved on the ceiling just outside the Parvati Temple. You need to stand beneath it and pray to Nandi, Lord Shiva and Lord Parvati for your well being and see Lord Guru immediately. They say by doing so your prayers would be answered.

Please don't miss this temple as you can visit Thanjavur after visiting this temple.

SCN015 - Vasisteshwaran Temple, Thittai

Deity : Vasisteshwaran / Swayambootheswarar
About : This is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams. This is also a Guru parikara Sthalam.
Timing : 6 AM to 12 PM, 4 PM to 8 PM.
Parking : Paid parking for lot of cars in big ground and by the temple available. No worries.
Route : The temple is located 11 kms from Thanjavur, enroute to Kumbakonam. Easy to locate by google maps.
History : Thittu means small island. During pralayam cross the world, Brahma & Vishnu worshipped the Lord Shiva for protection. After looking for a safe place, they found Thittai, which did not drown in during Pralayam. There was a Shiva Lingam in the location and became a temple. A unique feature of this temple is a drop of water falls on the Lingam (Main Deity) exactly every twenty four minutes (1 Naazhigai) from the roof. But for a small hole, there is no source of water or anything, on the Vimana of the main deity. This is the only place where you can see Guru Bhagavan who is the Raja Guru, in standing posture with 4 hands holding his weapons and a book.

After visiting vaideeswaran Temple, we drove by this guru bagawan temple. A must go temple in thanjavur. Amazing it was. Very well maintained , except the kulam (water pool outside) .. wish the water was clean.. people threw bottles and plastic cans in the water, which I didn't like. Otherwise temple wise we loved it..

This place is around 10 kms from Thanjavur on Thanajvur-Thirukarukavoor route. Road is better but not good. I traveled by car. Main deity is Lord Vashisteswarar (Lord Siva) with Goddess Kunthalambigai (alias Ulaganayaki ambal).

When I visited this temple on 24.04.2018 Tuesday evening around 5.00pm, not much crowd there. Sivachariar(archakar) was kind enough to take me around the temple and explained the way to worship here.

Even though Guru Bhagavan Sanctum comes first, near Flag post (kodi maram), one should not rush to Guru Bhagavan sannidhi. One to go first to Lord Siva-Lord Vashisteswarar Sannidhi, then come to Goddess Kunthalambigai sannidhi, then go round navagraga mandapam, then finally come to Guru Bhagavan sannidhi.

After this, one has to make namskaram before flag post and exit. That is the good practice followed here. Please note this route to follow.

I had a good darshan and deeparadhanai in all sannidhies.

Good location along the main road. Enough parking place. The temple has its own importance, the glaring fact is that every 20 minutes the water drop trickles on Shiva Shrine as told by the priest there. However nice place .One glaring nuisance is the moment you go near any temple in cauvery river belt in Tanjore by car , a parking token collector runs with a ticket ,which seems to be un avoidable

During April 2014, myself along with my parents got to visit 'Vasishteswarar temple' at Thittai, which is 11 Kms from Thanjavur.

The presiding deity of the temple is 'Swayambhootheeswarar', which was a Swoyambhu Lingam. Other name of the deity was 'Vashistheeswarar' as he was worshiped by Saint Vashishtar. Another important significance of the temple is, there is a separate sanctum for Guru Bhagwan. This is the only place where you can see Guru Bhagavan - who is the Raja Guru, in standing posture with 4 hands holding his weapons and a book.

We have offered our prayers to Guru Bhagwan & other deities.

Went to this temple on a Monday when the crowd was minimal or almost absent. So had amazing dharshan. Also it was a refutation working day. A few tips.
Stay at Thanjavur or Kumbakonam. It would take about an hour to reach. You can complete few other navagraha Temples on way from kumbakonam.
The temple ambal in the temple is so beautiful and the navagrahas are placed on the ceiling outside the ambal shrine. The main shrine hosts the beautiful Vashishteshwarar and the faith is this Guru Vashistar prayed to this Linga for the sake of humanity. The temple houses two stones called Chandrakanta stone and Suryakanta stone. The stones are very cold and can condense water from air through the narrow passage downward and water drips every few minutes to hours on the Linga depending on the moisture in the air.
The Guru Sannathi is outside to the left of the main Garbhagraha. The yellow pushparaga stone on Guru is large and very attractive. The faith is praying to this Guru will help rewrite ones fate. So the priest told us to think only positive and good things as whatever you thinks is believed will come true.
Enjoy the temple and get the blessings of Guru Baghawan.
