This serene and captivating place in Gorkha is commonly referred to as the Goraknath Temple. Whether you have a fascination for religious exploration or simply seek a tranquil and picturesque destination to visit, this temple holds immense appeal.

I reached Gorkha Bazar at 1000 on 10th November , 2018 . To reach Gorakhnath Cave from Gorkha Bazar one has to climb around 1500 stones steps . I did not dare to commit such physical exercise and continued my cosy drive up to the so called parking lot from which I had to climb about 250 stone steps . Near the commencement of the flight of steps , there were few make shift stalls selling religious paraphernalia , trinkets , etc .

I started climbing the steps. After some time , on my left I saw Hanuman Bhanjyaang . Pilgrims were offering their tributes to The Lord Hanuman and taking blessings from the two priests available there . I also paid my respects to Him .

Then I reached the Gorkha Kalika Temple . I took the Darshan of Mata Kalika and asked Her blessings . Many pilgrims also came there to please her by offering sacrifice of chicken , goat , etc . One touching moment was a kid carried a baby goat in his arms pressing it to his heart climbing the same stone steps as I did . He could not part the baby goat for the sacrifice .

I saw a Vidya Mandir nearby .

Then I reached the Gorakhnath Cave just ten meters down the southern side of Gorkha Palace . Neither I was allowed to enter the Cave nor permitted to take the photographs of interior of the caves . However I experienced the holy vibrations of the pious cave where Gorakhnath underwent his penance .

Sadhus of the Gorakhnath cult are known as kaanphata (“split-ears”) , after an initiation ceremony in which they insert sticks in their ear lobes .

El templo está en reconstrucción y solo se puede visitar una parte. Está bien pero me esperaba más. La subida con el calor se hace eterna. Deberían explicar en paneles por lo menos la importancia del lugar.

We visited this attraction in Gorkha, Nepal in May 2019 and learned the true meaning of Gurkhas. This temple was located next to the palace of King Prithivi Narayan Shah (first king of Nepal). There is also a temple of Goddesses Kali. Although the palace is being renovated due to 2015 earthquake. One of the locals said the soldiers during the war between several kingdoms around 17-18th century (at the time of King Prithivi) would chant the name of Gorkhnath and Kali together which would sound like "Gorakhkali". After getting the blessing from their Gods they would fight. Later it was termed as "Gurkhas" by the British- the fiercest soldiers.
